This one is not complicated…Because dodgy companies spend a lot of money on ads.

Quart ziploc for most. A couple gallon sizes for longer or thicker cables.

That’s pretty comparable actually. The most recent quote I received for private healthcare in the US was just under $2,000 per month ($24,000 per year).

My personal favorite is Authagraph, when folded they make a really neat looking shape. I bought one years ago at a paper store and it’s still standing.

I’m still baffled that OpenAI can complain about this with a straight face while these models are literally trained on everything regardless of copyright or permission.

I’ve been running Plex on various devices for many years and have been impressed by the stability and usefulness. Grandfathered on the old lifetime subscription but I get that $750 seems excessive.

In the Firefox case, no difference. It doesn’t encrypt traffic from your device outside of Firefox but for whatever you do inside of Firefox it’s == VPN.

Getting ready for a trip to Japan, I spent an embarrassing amount of time troubleshooting failures to load a Suica (train/transit) NFC card on a phone before realizing it just doesn’t work a few hours a night Tokyo time.

Looks like it means ‘Independent’ of the hypervisor used, I don’t think it’s a reference to it being an independent project. The QEMU post on this is a better read, I couldn’t tell from the GitHub what this was supposed to be. https://www.qemu.org/docs/master/system/igvm.html

Exactly, if you can’t afford the high upfront cost that you can stretch out over a longer period of time, you’re stuck paying more over the long term as the subscriptions get more expensive.
Re:Yep, Passkeys Still Have Problems
on Wednesday December 17, 2025 @01:47PM (#46303733)
Apple and Google often store your other 99% of passwords and passkeys, so losing this is actually more important than losing the 99%. I take your point but saying 99% have reset services when the critical 1% may never be recoverable without posting to HN is an important point.
Re:How long can it take to become a US citizen?
on Tuesday November 18, 2025 @11:54AM (#45968837)
From the same site as the article:
Does a baby born in the US get citizenship?
Yes, under current law, almost every baby born in the United States or its territories automatically becomes a US citizen at birth, regardless of the parents’ immigration status, except for certain children of foreign diplomats or enemy forces in hostile occupation.

That would be correct if the question was ‘For a $2000 32-core desktop should we switch to lightweight cryptography’.
The question is should we switch from some ridiculously insecure crappy crypto on a $3 part to this better lightweight crypto implementation.
Yah, we probably should, it’s better than what we had right?

Re:Unsafe and Unpredictable: My Volvo EX90 Experience
on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @07:23PM (#44654141)
Yes, anecdata from me as well, but the larger issue seems to be cars that run critical functions through the media or entertainment system only. My neighbor had a hybrid Volvo that was towed to the dealership multiple times because the car wouldn’t start when the media center froze. It was always fixed for free but ultimately they decided to sell it as it wasn’t worth the hassle.

A better headline would be “Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce purchases location tracking data of visitors”. What this article misses is that any cities’ business community could buy the same data if they wanted.
