I doubt the team designing the chips has much overlap with the OS team.
Re:Metal monolith found by helicopter crew in Utah desert on Tuesday November 24, 2020 @03:51PM (#25202885)
I don't think it's a grave just a memorial. Someone probably fell off the cliff or something.
Re:You might not need machine learning on Tuesday November 24, 2020 @04:34AM (#25196804)
While true I don't think this driving problem is used as an example for something you should use ML for rather an example to show how you could apply it.
Re:Israeli scientists claim to reverse aging process on Sunday November 22, 2020 @02:47AM (#25175771)
Except for that side effect of a big hot deadly fire.
Re:All DuckDuckGo bang operators on one page on Tuesday September 29, 2020 @12:53AM (#24624259)
Maybe, but I'm pretty sure browsers block the clipboard functions unless they were triggered via user input. I don't know if a page load counts as a valid trigger.

Gizmodo's baking metaphor is really really awful.
Re:Over 90% of Indian techies in the US are upper-caste Indians on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @04:51AM (#24552340)
Names possibly? I'm purely speculating here, but since India has such a huge population anyone with a indianesque name is probably Indian. Especially if it's the case that muslims from pakistan have distinct names. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Re:Apple showing signs it may soon launch a search engine on Thursday August 27, 2020 @11:20PM (#24301061)
Guess they should just do nothing then? Diversity in buisness is important. And Google has a whole pie from which apple can steal a big chunk of. Simply set apple search to be the default on safari and you immediately have a huge chuck of the market.
The thing I don't really see accounted for in these experiments is that UBI is not really "universal". It's a group, or a town who or are not isolated from the outside economy, and the participants are usually aware/suspect that this bonus income probably won't last forever, so they know they need to keep working to maintain their careers etc.

I'm not sure there's any way to account for it unfortunately, it is such a compelling idea though I think we kind of all want it to be real.

Re:Moving from YouTube to PeerTube on Friday August 21, 2020 @02:52AM (#24232679)
Spotify used P2P in the early days for this reason I belive. Worked out for them.
Re:Apple helped make 'top secret' iPod for US government on Wednesday August 19, 2020 @01:29PM (#24213191)
Probably on Gizmodo. Steve Jobs will be rolling in his grave.

Those no salarie/$1 salarie CEOs sound oh so noble but they are usually compensated very well with stock options and so it's mostly just a facade of giving a
The US military isn't just doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They want you to become a submariner!

Or at least that's what I think he's implying.

Genuinely curious. Why go with canvas over HTMl elements? Isn't it reinventing the wheel a bit for things like input fields
Re:Show HN: 3D Book Image CSS Generator on Monday July 20, 2020 @08:23PM (#23903247)
Its available at the library
I think this concept is wonderful. An open mic. night for research sounds delightful.
Re:Why I left Substack and the Email Renaissance on Tuesday June 30, 2020 @06:03PM (#23695301)
What are the limitations of just using Gmail or something? Paste in the email list from somewhere and off you go.
The ranking algorithm is the least of anyone's worries in my opinion.
Re:Finishing a side project on Monday June 29, 2020 @01:02AM (#23674507)
Just like when studying or doing homework getting started and setting yourself up is the hardest part. Keep your IDE and relevant tabs open, if you're on Linux set up a workspace for it and just push the rest aside. Once you start tackling some code you'll be in the zone and will probably have to test yourself away from it.
Re:Finishing a side project on Monday June 29, 2020 @12:57AM (#23674485)
I think awesome side projects are at least just as valuable as leetcode, and so you should do side projects exclusively unless you have an interview next week.
I don't like that the author didn't bother to explain what it was Visa didn't like, I don't care enough to go digging and so I'm not inclined to take sides.

Visa is well within its rights to blacklist your company, I don't know if they are in the right regarding your personal accounts. But it doesn't sound like you've been blacklisted for "building Gab" which to me made it sound like you were a competing platform it sounds like you ruffled some feathers and now you are trying to play the "but free speech" card which doesn't apply to corporations.

More likely it will get annonomised and feed into since ML. But it would be super illegal to do what you're describing and with as many employees as Google has someone would notice and leak that.
Producing Aluminum requires so much power I've heard it refered to as solidified electricity.
Re:Is WebP really better than JPEG? on Tuesday June 23, 2020 @06:58PM (#23621439)
Wouldn't it probably be one request per icon instead of just one request for a while font?
Re:Is WebP really better than JPEG? on Tuesday June 23, 2020 @06:52PM (#23621395)
The only advantage I can see it where videos are not allowed to autoplay you would want a gif to play somethig small.
You have to orbit around the center of gravity so these satellites won't just be over the arctic or anything. They have to orbit deep into the southern hemisphere to cover northern Canada so realistically there will probably global coverage at that point and this is just a pilot project of some sort.
Well what is reasonable for a $5 bottle of ibuprofen? How about:

"Misuse of this product is dangerous and may cause death. Advil is not responsible for damages caused by misuse. Read and follow instructions on back of bottle"

That's a bit wordy but it indicates who is responsible (you) and what the gravity of the situation is (possible death). With that established, it means the onus is on the user to do more reading.

IANAL but I would like to belive something like that would satisfy all parties.

An engineer actually smuggled out a set of plans out. And it only recently came to light. The plans were being exhibited in Winnipeg (I think) just before this whole covid thing happened.
Sounds like it's a matter of a lot of time
