Re:Dark side of a Valley software engineer on Monday July 04, 2016 @08:31AM (#12030303)
The important bit from that page is:

"I am on-call about 10 days per quarter, usually 3 shifts of 3-4 days each. I am paid extra for my on-call (after-hours) work, but not at my full hourly salary because I only work when there are problems after hours (e.g. on weekends or late at night.)".

Note that depending on the exact team, Software Engineers at Google may also be part of an on-call rotation.

OK, interesting point of view.

Can you justify it with examples?

"Note that if I can get you to "su and say" something just by asking, you have a very serious security problem on your system and you should look into it."

Re:Google Launches Sidewalk Labs on Thursday June 11, 2015 @06:50AM (#9698832)
The main devices that Google devs use - Nexus devices - do not have a menu button.

And I guess they think that the three dot menu is ugly or something.

Vaporware is when you promise a product and fail to deliver on it.

They have not announced a product yet, only a research area.

Re:GitHub under ongoing DDoS attack on Sunday March 29, 2015 @07:32AM (#9284509)
I think you meant "(arse|ass)?holes".
This reminds me of this tool-assisted speedrun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOfcvPf-22k

The image recognition in Brain Age is obviously much simpler, but it's still basically the same idea.

Yet he has one finger on the pulse of the internet-nation, as evidenced by the previous comic: http://xkcd.com/1492/
That's exactly the point.
Re:µBlock for Firefox on Tuesday January 20, 2015 @04:50AM (#8916167)
They claim that when the extension gets added to addons.mozilla.org, it would start to auto-update.
Re:On the new Snowden documents on Tuesday December 30, 2014 @07:08AM (#8814249)
Snowden was low-level, but he was basically an admin doing migration to a new system. His job description required the access he was given.

Additionally, one of the lessons learned from the 9/11 attacks was that keeping data too "Need to Know" might prevent people who actually need to know information from knowing about it.
