Re:Fuck, you're still sad? on Thursday September 18, 2025 @12:43PM (#45291848)
I have a friend who was hospitalized recently. He tried to take his own life multiple times. Before reaching this point, he was struggling for months, but he thought it was ok bc he was working. So it's hard to draw the line for some people. Obviously, everything in life is a tradeoff and can be risky. But seeking medical advice is probably the best thing you can do bc you can reach a point of no return, and you will not accept treatment. How to draw the line? Like you said, disruptive changes and also disruptive behaviors. It's a complex problem.

Re:DaisyUI: Tailwind CSS Components on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @05:29PM (#44653212)
DaisyUI is like Bootstrap, it's great for me, I'm not a front-end developer. I'm using Rails and DaisyUI to build apps.
> Virality is rare and nearly impossible to predict

People see viral products and early hackers who spent years building their reputation, and think that's not too hard, and maybe you need to try as many as possible... Nope, you need to build a business too! Low-hanging fruit saas can be built so fast nowadays that knowing how to build software is not a huge advantage. We know that building businesses takes time and a huge effort. Most businesses will not be Lovable like.

I'm not sure if you tried but add a sport, can be table tenis, jiu-jitsu whatever. I did this too after got comfortable with the walks (that I still do).
Re:Rabbit R1: Barely Reviewable [video] on Monday April 29, 2024 @11:42PM (#40207000)
People are developing hardware like "web 2.0" beta software to compete with Google and Apple, but I'm not sure it will work. Yeah, the fear of the walled-guarded world of phones is fair and we can see it.
Re:How China Built BYD, Its Tesla Killer on Sunday February 18, 2024 @05:56PM (#39424378)
They announced three factories in Brazil. However, cars in Brazil are expensive due to many factors, including taxes and tariffs (see the price of an iPhone in Brazil and try not to be horrified).
In Brazil, it is also 6%. It's ridiculous, 6% on top of what families spend decades saving for a limited amount of hours of _consulting_. A home is probably the most expensive thing a family will ever buy.

Unfortunately, they don't get money if they don't sell, even if they spend hours helping a customer. IMHO, this is bad. A buyer will pay for all the deals that weren't closed.

I'm testing it on my M2 Air (16GB). Quite fast!

The 80s kid in me when I see such a powerful machine being just electronic waste cries
Re:When Did Postgres Become Cool? on Wednesday August 09, 2023 @09:39PM (#37070847)
Yeah, and MySQL was popular among PHP developers, remember LAMP installers?
I hope they do this, I would not trust my govt (Brazil) with this power. Judges would use it all the time.
Re:Lima: A nice way to run Linux VMs on Mac on Monday July 10, 2023 @10:18PM (#36675692)
I gave up on Docker for MacOS a year ago. Couple months ago I found OrbStack, being using "Docker" again on Mac since then. It's fantastic.
Re:Threads Is Now Live on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @08:02PM (#36609034)
With Zuck's track record, Threads will be fun but don't expect transparency.
I have noticed some non-tech individuals, such as lawyers, are utilizing ChatGPT. Even my mother asks me to use ChatGPT for her business, and my girlfriend loves it as well.
Re:Fast Machines, Slow Machines on Wednesday June 28, 2023 @12:23PM (#36508731)
I'm using the Air M2 16GB, switched from Notion to Notes and Reminders, one of the reasons is that these apps are way faster. It also uses under 100MB of ram.

Note: The main reason is that Notion is fantastic but too much for me. I'm not that organized...

Re:Ask HN: What are some of the best Reddit alternatives? on Thursday June 15, 2023 @04:24PM (#36345999)
Yeah, Discord is probably the "real-time" alternative to Reddit. Unfortunately, it's not searchable.

The real problem is not software but, as many pointed out before, building a community of communities that size is hard.

Re:Brazil judge orders temporary suspension of Telegram on Wednesday April 26, 2023 @10:56PM (#35722790)
Good point, that’s why this conversation has more nuance. In this case, a single judge from one of the Brazilian states has decided to take down an app for the entire country.
Re:The End of the Beginning (2020) on Thursday March 09, 2023 @06:36PM (#35088445)
From mainframes to everything has a microchip. Maybe the next big era will be AI, maybe biotech, or space  I'm sure it will be probably something that even people that grew up with computers will find pretty weird, like my grandpa figuring out computers.
Re:How many layers of UI inconsistencies are in Windows 11? on Monday January 02, 2023 @12:06PM (#34220341)
I've tried Windows full-time again in 2022. I'm a developer. I bought an XPS 13 9310 UHD and activated Windows Pro. WSL2 make the life of a developer pretty easy, specially if you need Docker, it runs better on WSL2 than on Mac. But Lord! What a crappy UI/UX experience, but it is at least getting better. The battery management is terrible, make traveling with a "Thin and Light" laptop a bad experience, you have to be nearby a power outlet. On Dec 29 I bought another Mac. About same price of my XPS. Battery is amazing and the UI/UX still way better.

Note: People say that the XPS FHD has a good battery life. I don't care, I don't want a FHD, and UHD is a pretty bad product. Fix it.

I don't see why an already rich person who became much wealthier than their parents cannot be praised for their ventures. Also, many people become rich by working for these companies, and they create new companies which provide more jobs. Some of these people become rich and have children as well...
Re:Brazilian authorities suspend WhatsApp payments on Wednesday June 24, 2020 @10:57AM (#23628554)
Sure, that's why I used the term "solution". I understand that PIX will be better than what we have today, but there's no reason to block other players and don't allow them to create their own payment solutions or products, based or not on PIX.
Re:Brazilian authorities suspend WhatsApp payments on Wednesday June 24, 2020 @10:42AM (#23628387)
If this is about Pix, and I believe it is, Government is killing competitors. If Pix is better, people will choose Pix, if WhatsApp is better, people will use it. Let's not force people to use a solution and create a monopoly controlled by the Government, again.
Re:Brasília – Buliding a City from Scratch on Saturday January 11, 2020 @03:54AM (#22018960)
That's correct, the city was designed to house high paying government workers and politicians, still like this since the growth is controlled by the government so house development does not meet the demand. People that can't afford living there go to more dangerous and poor cities around Brasília. The city is also not designed for pedestrians and does not have a good metro system. Brasilia is unique but it also shows the worst from Brasil.

Re:IntelliJ IDEA 14.1 on Wednesday March 25, 2015 @10:18AM (#9263076)
Eclipse gave me headaches in the past (old days of Android). I don't usually do Java, but when I do, IDEA is the IDE I use. It's great.
Re:4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo on Sunday May 06, 2012 @01:43AM (#3934267)
Yes, we can compare. Doesn't matter if Google is old and DDG is young. It does not change the fact that people have a need for good privacy terms and in this case, privacy is THE feature that DDG is offering.
Re:All You Need is love.travis-ci.org on Wednesday February 08, 2012 @09:49AM (#3566705)
It is, we hope that everyone will use CI in the (near) future, doesn't matter if it's a hosted service or not.
