Re:Racism at a gaming company on Tuesday October 02, 2012 @07:06PM (#4604875)
There's nothing about the phrase 'white trash' which implies someone is a criminal, though.
Re:Kickstarter suspends project 10 hours from successful funding on Thursday September 20, 2012 @04:31PM (#4550515)
It's certainly better to pull it before the money is distributed. It sucks but the money going to the bank account of Vinted Goods is only going to make the situation messier.
Re:Kickstarter suspends project 10 hours from successful funding on Thursday September 20, 2012 @04:27PM (#4550505)
It's an attempt at a web 2.0 'serious reply' while being very concerned about coming across as reasonable. If there's more to this story the people behind Vinted Goods are in for a rude shock that good PR isn't about a reasonable sounding blog post with a community outreach angle. That's a tactic for taking on faceless multinationals who move slowly.
Re:TC Disrupt Experience - Seriously, What Problem are You Solving? on Wednesday September 12, 2012 @07:02PM (#4513751)
This is a good idea for a post, but needs specifics.
Re:The truth about organ donation on Wednesday September 12, 2012 @04:07PM (#4512863)
"Deeper still one finds the profit motive behind the organ donation scam."

The author suggests that misinformation and a philosophical problem is to blame. This is the premise of the article. Then he writes a statement like this. For his assertion he needs to find proof that there's a deliberate campaign to mislead the public.

The author offers nothing of the sort in his citations. His inference is lazy and sensationalist, even before getting into whether his premise is actually true.

Re:How I Quit My Job and Bootstrapped My Startup with Tutorspree on Friday September 07, 2012 @12:00AM (#4487664)
“We are working with Tutorspree to market our weekend development workshops. These workshops give absolute beginners the ability to create an Instagram-like app by the end of the second day: hands on, project focused learning. Maximum 12 students, 2 teachers, 1 assistant”. If you’re interested in the workshop, drop us a line at [email protected]."

Call me a cynic, but it's one thing to argue from a technical skills background, but there's no way anyone could bootstrap 'an instagram'.

Re:You're not the CEO - You're the Fucking Janitor on Wednesday June 27, 2012 @06:26PM (#4169510)
Starting off with a strawman is a good way to write a bad blog post.
Because these powerful stances can be reversed. Constitutional amendments are very difficult to reverse because once they become embedded.
Sorry man, just trust us, Argentina is ahead of Chile (and the rest of Latin America) when it comes to skills in technology/programming. If you want proof, take a look at some of the events being run in Argentina. Check out the Ruby community. Then compare and contrast with the same in Chile. They're miles ahead here.
Yeah, if you listen to The Economist. Or you can actually come here and realise it's not that simple, and in fact, a lot of business gets done here.
Re:Startups Are Bands for Hackers on Monday April 30, 2012 @04:02AM (#3908409)
This is written by a guy who has never been in a band. You would think that fact would be a lightbulb moment that maybe you shouldn't write this blog post. Apparently not.
Re:HN MEETUP: Buenos Aires on Sunday April 29, 2012 @04:30AM (#3905506)
I would, but when/where?
Re:Who Does Google Think They're Fooling? on Monday April 16, 2012 @02:06PM (#3848525)
So you believe providing ad content isn't to the benefit of consumers?
It's interesting you're doing to project in .NET, would you mind if we discussed it a little? I'd love to pick your brain on some of your implementations. Email me colin doc (at) google's mail dot com.
Re:Bill Gross: America’s debt is not its biggest problem on Thursday August 11, 2011 @03:19AM (#2871835)
'Deficits dont matter' is a huge strawman. No where in the article does it imply this, it suggests that the government can mobilise resources and increase demand. In other words, it can organise people to produce more instead of sitting around, and use the surplus of that production to pay off who they owe. Having people sit around is bad, and adding to those people is worse. The government can get them to do something and that adds to the economy.

Also, you used the example of Greece or Italy. I assume you put Spain in the same category, so its interesting to note that Spain was running a surplus in the years leading up to the crisis.

Budget deficits are not the be all-end all of government finance. Deficits matter, but relative to other metrics.

Re:Stats About Startup Success on Monday August 01, 2011 @01:15AM (#2830836)
"5. Better VCs Provide Better Deals: Venture capital firm experience is positively related to pre-money valuation. More experienced firms pay more for new ventures -- likely because they have higher success rates. "

Kind of tautology, no?

Re:What the Debt Ceiling Really Means on Monday July 11, 2011 @01:05PM (#2751536)
No real scotsman argument already?
Re:Technologies you should know for real Web-development on Saturday June 25, 2011 @05:02AM (#2695311)
these are fairly obvious
He speculated, as did most of the media. Its one of those "well, what else could it be?".

"Hey, this special President speech tonight... this mood, is it Osama?"

silence

The media guys then call up every old defence contact they have, old generals, the like, who probably got the news a little earlier. They get something, and run with it.

Things don't need to 'leak', sometimes the gravity and mood just tells the story.

Re:Is it a New Tech Bubble? Let’s See if It Pops on Sunday March 27, 2011 @03:25PM (#2375712)
I can't take this article seriously. How can we compare 'valuations' to actual raised money in IPO's? All of this value of facebook is based of estimates on the small % of assets owned by outside capital that is used to fund it.

Hypothetical vs Real. Is this really comparable?

Re:Android Honeycomb not immediately open sourced on Friday March 25, 2011 @10:33AM (#2368574)
so stupid. so when they release honeycomb, will there be an article saying how google have suddenly decided to make android open source?

guts desire and passion, wow how insightful.
Re:Quantitative easying explained on Wednesday November 17, 2010 @03:26PM (#1915589)
This is not true. The fed is targeting specific medium term bonds. It isn't buying every bond on offer, which is what it would do during a failed auction.
Re:Quantitative easying explained on Wednesday November 17, 2010 @03:24PM (#1915581)
Japan exported vast amounts to keep its economy afloat. If it was for the booming world economy of the 90s, Japan would have died. The paradox of thrift is the problem; if everyone experiences deflation, and cuts as a consequence, making debt repayments a bigger percentage of gdp, and the cycle repeating, where does it end? At least Japan had an untold number of trade partners who were willing to buy.

It all must be viewed in context.
