Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Monday November 02, 2026 @10:19AM (#50338000)
They sell the TV hardware at a loss or barely break even. The real profit is selling your usage data.
The States decide who they send to Congress to represent them. The Federal government has no right to interfere in how the States makes this determination.

In minuscule insignificant amounts. See The Heritage Foundation's own findings.

Re:LG strongly denies TV spying claims on Saturday September 12, 2026 @05:29PM (#49677408)
Why would anyone connect their TV to the Internet? It’s been known for years that it spies, although maybe not to this extent. Or are these TVs auto connecting open WiFi or the neighbor’s Xfinity WiFi?
American cars then were basically disposable cars - you drive them until about 80,000 miles at which point they are practically falling apart, effective a beater. Bob Lutz was the king of marketing low quality cars as "fun to drive".
Re:The Largest Electric Aircraft Just Flew [video] on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:14PM (#49581232)
Yes it's super misleading. All the marketing and title is calling it "electric" where in reality it's a hybrid electric-gas airplane with a 125 mile electric range. Aviation uses nautical miles yet they advertise 125 statute miles so the number seems bigger (125 statute miles = 108.62 nautical miles).

It would be like Toyota marketing the Prius as an electric vehicle, then buried in their presentation sneaking in the gas propulsion. Same with Chrysler Pacifica (32 mile electric range).

Re:Librepods: AirPods liberated from Apple's ecosystem on Sunday June 28, 2026 @08:07PM (#48713162)
"Audiophiles don't use their equipment to listen to music. Audiophiles use your music to listen to their equipment."

AirPods makes it easier to listen to music across multiple devices. They sound reasonable enough for people to enjoy their music. They enable people to enjoy their music. This is why they are so popular.

-1 for editing the title

Are people really copying files to the servers then committing there?

"it's too hard" should never be an excuse to break the law
Re:I love my dumb watches on Saturday March 21, 2026 @10:34PM (#47473890)
Interesting, I’m the opposite. My phone is always easily accessible, whereas the watch is under my long sleeve shirt which is under a couple layers of coats, so it’s more of a hassle to make it available to tap.

Stepping back, it's pretty ridiculous that I need to download executable code, often bloated, solely to view read-only content. Just render the thing on the backend and send it to the client.

Sounds like B.S.

Anyone not eligible for a SSN can get a TIN and pay taxes to the IRS.

And all those payments has contributed trillions of dollars https://www.cato.org/blog/cato-study-immigrants-reduced-defi...

Article makes no mention of “crash”. Please don’t make sensationalized edits of the title.
Michigan in the 90s had a similar rule. Customer gets 10x the overcharge (up to $5 max). I can guarantee you they fixed the price immediately.

Where I live there’s no such rule I can tell you no one is correcting the price when I point out that I got overcharged (they usually shrug with “it does that sometimes”).

> a right which can't be taken away

It's not licensed until it is. Cars and airplanes were once unlicensed.

Re:How long can it take to become a US citizen? on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @12:29AM (#45976196)
Those words in the Constitution are just words. They can be interpreted away by the Supreme Court.

The constitution need not change, the Supreme Court can just change their interpretation of it

Many people’s rights are being violated recently while enforcing immigration law

Many brown looking citizens carry their passport so as to not be excessively detained by ICE.

So it’s not a built-in command as the titles eluded

Mac costs more but are easier to support from an IT perspective, at least that's what many say.
Re:Shoplifters could soon be chased down by drones on Friday September 26, 2025 @11:18AM (#45387506)
It’s still limited by the local government’s willingness to pursue and prosecute these types of crimes
