In 2014 it wasn't all that obvious yet that the future internet would largely abandon the Web and become mostly apps talking to JSON APIs.

"import pytorch" is the new "if-else".
We can do both at the same time.

Are you working on X11 though?

Just like any other LLM.

It's a positive and a negative.

It makes people less happy, sure.

But it's also the reason why German machinery has the good reputation it has. Because even if it works pretty great already, somebody will find a detail to "complain" about and improve it.

Or, to quote grandpa Simpson: "You only think you're happy, but you're not!"
Musk did an interview with Sandy Munro about it. Worth watching.
Re:SpaceX broke its record for number of launches in a year on Monday September 11, 2023 @03:42AM (#37464154)
It uses methane and oxygen, could that be easily mass produced from solar or hydro? It may turn out better than burning fossil fuel in a plane. Just a thought, no idea if true or not.

Also, Starship doesn't need pilots, so freight transport could be automated.

On the other hand, I wonder about noise emission. Probably much louder than planes.

Isn't the sun doing that already pretty successfully?
If they have password and 2FA on the same device, then it's not 2FA. Tell them to get an external TOTP generator, at least.
Re:Rust has been forked to the Crab Language on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @05:16PM (#36130939)
What made you think that you "need" to "celebrate" anything?

Who told you that? Weird choice of words.

You missed to mentioned that he murdered all voices that dared to come up with ideas.
Re:Rust has been forked to the Crab Language on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @07:55AM (#36123725)
About what? That phrase, that was just a trick by the Chinese Communists to find and kill millions of its critiques?
Re:Rust has been forked to the Crab Language on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @07:51AM (#36123692)
Or that "toy OS" Linux.

Heard it all a thousand times already.

Re:Rust has been forked to the Crab Language on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @04:56AM (#36122620)
???
Re:Rust has been forked to the Crab Language on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @04:46AM (#36122549)
Interesting, how many negative comments this gets. People seem to love monoculture run by committees.

This is exactly what OSS is all about. Take a code base and develop it into different directions. Both code and organization. And "natural selection" will have some forks die and others strife.

Forking is an essential feature in OSS, its what OSS is all about.
Re:Why human societies developed so little during 300k years on Saturday April 08, 2023 @01:09PM (#35495355)
My guess would be that most of them were. Not just by the tribe for the anti-social aspect, but by its leader for the threat to his power.
Re:Why human societies developed so little during 300k years on Saturday April 08, 2023 @01:05PM (#35495314)
And most importantly: who controlled that new invention.

Because that may come with a shift in influence and power. And the current leader may simply kill the inventor to stop change that may threaten his position.

Re:The Day Windows Died on Sunday April 02, 2023 @07:08PM (#35416297)
That was 15 years ago. Today, it's a big time saver compared to Windows.
Not just that, but it will also understand what everybody is talking about on WeChat etc. It can scan every word that 1.4 billion people say to each other and alert the authorities whenever a "newly forbidden topic" is even insinuated. No "river crabs" anymore, the GPT would understand it!
Imagine a company like TikTok, but it offers a free GPT. Subversion of every society worldwide, fully automated.
My guess is that lawmakers in Western countries will soon make this illegal. Without actually defining it well.
What I said was already 10+ ago in Hurun Report about why Chinese money flees to the West. But Chinese rich should probably ask you for advice.
"Not fully guaranteed" is putting it mildly. There are no personal property rights in China. Or any other rights. Try crossing a CCP member, or worse a member of the military.
Do Australians benefit? Not being able to buy houses.
Rich Chinese are getting their money out of the country, because if their money is in China, they don't really own it. The CCP could take it any day and there would be nothing they could do about it.

And then there is Western capital, used to rule of law and personal property. They don't see that reality as a realistic threat. So they keep pumping money into China. It will work. Until it doesn't. And then the CCP will simply take it.

But somehow I suspect that it will be a "too big to fail" situation, and all those losses will be socialized in the West, i.e. the Western governments pay for the losses probably.

It shows the dilemma between reality and ideological extremism.

Sure, if that's your hobby. I used to do that, but there are other things you can do with our time too. So now I use ProtonMail with my own domain.
Person? Or group? Why disregard individuals and think of people as “groups”.

Individual humans are vulnerable or not. Groups are just many people, some of which may be vulnerable while others are not.

What makes you think that every single migrant is disadvantaged? Or every handicapped person?

See the individual human and their specific needs.
