Re:Show HN: Phage Explorer on Saturday January 31, 2026 @10:08AM (#46837305)
If it's inaccurate it's worthless anyhow.

It's absolutely no issue to build all the technical and design stuff with AI, but science facts must be science facts and not just AI gibberish presented like facts.

What's the benefit of presenting not trustworthy data?

Re:Show HN: Phage Explorer on Saturday January 31, 2026 @10:06AM (#46837282)
At least put a big warning in your introduction box that highlights that those data might be invalid because you are not an expert in this topic. Let the use acknowledge this before continuing.
Re:GoSign Desktop RCE flaws affecting users in Italy on Tuesday November 18, 2025 @09:55AM (#45966993)
Seems to be correct

  store.steampowered.com. 30 IN A 184.31.101.220

  NetRange: 184.24.0.0 - 184.31.255.255
  CIDR: 184.24.0.0/13

E.g. https://www.fastly.com/

But Cloudflare has the best marketing of all of them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re:How to Run WordPress completely from RAM on Sunday October 12, 2025 @01:39PM (#45560105)
Works fine from Norway, so probably not a country block. Site blocking EU usually block Norway as well.

Explanation from https://lists.iana.org/hyperkitty/list/[email protected]/thread/EX...

Re:Vanishing from Hyundai’s data network on Monday August 11, 2025 @06:35AM (#44862738)
Why?

I also don't have any need for that, because I never answer or even use my phone while driving.

Re:I hacked my washing machine on Monday July 28, 2025 @01:39AM (#44707538)
That's also my approach and works great.

I used Shelly plugs for for the washer and the dryer. Put little Go application on my server in the basement and get Telegram notifications + HTTP interface updates about the different states (running, finished, standby).

This saved a lot of forgotten loads .

Until the LLM learned that Cloudflare and friends will bomb you with Captchas until you allow all features again.
Nice project. I'm not sure about the latest models (because I don't get the Daikin naming), but usually Intesis provides a huge range of connectivity modules: https://compatibility.intesis.com/search?reference=daikin
Re:I was wrong about robots.txt on Thursday July 17, 2025 @01:50AM (#44590106)
I don't see a reason why a good bot operator couldn't build a parser lib in a different language and put it on a public repo.

Shouldn't be that hard if someone WANT to be good.

Re:I was wrong about robots.txt on Thursday July 17, 2025 @01:45AM (#44590080)
Keep in mind that those LLMs are one of the bigger reasons why we see more and more anti bot behaviour on sites like SO.

That aggressive crawling to train those on everything is insane.

I'd say yes.

Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025 on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @11:58AM (#44583737)
Yeah it has its pros and cons, sadly.

So far I'm lucky and the only ban I'm aware of is on gambling. Which is fine for me personally.

But in a UK case I'd using a non local one as well.

Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025 on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @07:23AM (#44580972)
DNS is not privatized. This is not about the root DNS servers, it's just about one of many free resolvers out there - in this case one of the bigger and popular ones.
Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025 on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @03:38AM (#44579682)
You are right infrastructure is important.

But opposite to tap water there are a lot of different free DNS resolvers that can be used.

And I don't see how my taxes funded CFs DNS service. But my ISP fee covers their DNS resolving setup. That's the reason why I wrote

> a service that's free of charge

Which CF is.

Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025 on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @01:48AM (#44579101)
If you consume a service that's free of charge, it's at least not reasonable to complain if there's an outage.

Like mentioned by other comments, do it on your own if you are not happy with the stability. Or just pay someone to provide it - like your ISP..

And TBH I trust my local ISP more than Google or CF. Not in availability, but it's covered by my local legislature. That's a huge difference - in a positive way.

Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025 on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @01:32AM (#44579010)
Wasn't that the case since ever?
Re:LLM Inevitabilism on Tuesday July 15, 2025 @01:18PM (#44573541)
I see it like you.

I can't even imagine how hard it must be to grow up in such a society.

Re:A Dark Adtech Empire Fed by Fake CAPTCHAs on Friday June 13, 2025 @03:32AM (#44266497)
We still have eMail in place. If they don't want to spend money on an SMS they can send an eMail.

If browser notification permissions would have a TTL, I'd might considering it. But until this happens I won't allow anyone to send me browser notifications. And even then I'd be very picky.

Re:Show HN: A new way to learn languages on Friday February 14, 2025 @03:07PM (#43052518)
I hate newsletters, but in this case: Can i subscribe something to get an update when you've more languages available?

E.g. I'd love to use it for Norwegian -> German

Re:We got hit by an alarmingly well-prepared phish spammer on Thursday January 30, 2025 @02:52AM (#42875835)
It's probably a specific policy of Samsung which doesn't allow the word samsung in recipient addresses. I had the same issue, but with [email protected]

[email protected] worked just fine..

Re:Curl-Impersonate on Monday December 30, 2024 @03:58PM (#42553440)
I've learned that Akamai has a service that deals with this specific problem, maybe this might interest you as well: https://www.akamai.com/products/content-protector

Sadly I'm not able to enter any command. Even after disabling the ad blocker
I love the idea, but sadly it's not very precise in our case. There are even buildings on the property that - as far as I know - never existed in that place.
I don't know about the danish system, but I guess it's similar to the ones used by Norway and Sweden

Re:Web Scraping in Python – The Complete Guide on Tuesday February 20, 2024 @01:54PM (#39445274)
Mind sharing which one? I'm curious
That's the reason why I've chosen KNX. As long as there's power, it's working. Just keep a spare power supply and you'll be fine.

Also no mesh and network fiddling, just a bus wire.

Re:Oslo acquires ChatGPT for 110k students and teachers on Wednesday February 07, 2024 @12:45AM (#39284948)
I came here to say this as well. Every time someone replies with "I've asked ChatGPT.." or "Why not ask ChatGPT?" I get seriously mad. It's like religious people. Totally convinced of a fake story and therefore tells it as truth.

> People are enthralled with this tech when they should still be very very skeptical.

Yes, that's the real issue. Everyone should be very skeptical about ChatGPT responses. But instead it's often trusted blindly, because "it's often enough correct".

But I get the idea behind this particular move and at least it can be a chance to teach the students to distrust it.

A nice page, but I highly suggest to add a hint which timezone it shows. I opened it and was totally frustrated to not knew if it's UTC, my timzone or something else.
