"akin to the small set of concepts a person might have in mind when reasoning about a situation"

That does not necessarily mean only a small set of neurons in our brains are engaged.

It could be that we use the whole set or a large portion, albeit in a more efficient way!

Re:SambaNova chip for LLMs nearly as fast as Groq on Wednesday May 29, 2024 @01:39PM (#40514628)
Both are faster than NVIDIA! Always good to see competition!
API on the horizon?

credit card matching the User's name/location?

This is just a sad consequence of some merchants creating accounts in the thousands/hundreds of thousands and selling them to SEO/Marketing blackhats to use.
The number of simple, yet very cool ideas on HN just baffles me, no wonder HN is an addiction!

Selling an add-on/accessory that clips onto any macbook or even any laptop with similar screen properties as the macbook pro used will be a nice little business!

Re:Zoom adding advertisements to the free tier of its service on Tuesday November 02, 2021 @09:17AM (#29080727)
you are on to something!
Re:Zoom adding advertisements to the free tier of its service on Tuesday November 02, 2021 @08:50AM (#29080437)
A deal with Admob or another ad provider will mean they make pure profit (no bandwidth cost) on all free users!

Imagine all those bored users in forced meetings! They would click on anything to kill the boredom! :p

You probably wouldn't want to hear the sound of carrying a vehicle or something of that size (assuming the tech can scale of course)!!
Re:United States vs. Google on Wednesday October 21, 2020 @11:21AM (#24848697)
Correct me if I am wrong, but is there anything stopping anyone from starting a new (better) search engine, and promoting it like crazy? Maybe even pay users a portion of the ads revenue for using the new search engine?

I understand there are economies of scale here, but if a few investors got together what's to stop them from achieving this?

yeah I imagine once a technique is mastered, it would be used all over the place! Not sure if one "company" started offering this service in many places, could explain the similarity.
Thank you! Seems very similar to the bridge in Córdoba: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_bridge_of_C%C3%B3rdoba
Re:Gold price rises above $2k for first time on Wednesday August 05, 2020 @07:06AM (#24059389)
Makes sense.

However, couldn't this be a sign that people are getting ready for if/when the current financial system fails?

Apple makes money from services, more devices supporting the latest features == more potential money.
Startup idea for anyone who is interested:

Paid customer service where the customer pays money (say $100-$1k depending on how serious the issue is) and each company can have a special channel to respond to these paid requests and be compensated (say 80% of the fee the customer pays). That way companies will have the will and ability to attend to serious issues and filter them out from the "useless" customer requests that flood any large size business.

Thanks, appreciate the answer. Makes a lot of sense.
Is this a good or bad sign?

What problems exist that only the founder can solve and require his involvement? or is that just what he wants to do?

Re:New Zealand relied on science and empathy on Tuesday April 21, 2020 @12:17PM (#22936320)
Amazing Prime Minister leading the country through the 15th of March terrorist attack, the aftermath, and then this Covid-19 crises!

Second female leader to have a baby while in office!

All that in less than 3 years being elected at a young age. Just wow!

Re:The world after coronavirus on Sunday April 19, 2020 @05:04AM (#22914530)
A lot of assumptions about how a lot of industries operate will change.
Good question, maybe sign your videos with a key?

Or perhaps another neural network to distinguish the real from the fake?

I haven't seen many companies do what they do! They lower their fees without the customer asking! Most customers will not go comparing them to others, yet, when they can they reduce the fees and tell you how much more you are saving!

Wonderful ethics!

Any good courses you can recommend on tech product management? Seems like very relevant here.

Re:Zoom needs to clean up its privacy act on Friday March 27, 2020 @10:47AM (#22703220)
"the best of those, Zoom, is doing very well"

Is Zoom really the best? No other comparable platform out there?

Anyone know how difficult it would be to build something like it on top of aws or a similar cloud?

Would this apply to pretty much all countries? Especially "testing is reserved for living patients"? A lot of countries are struggling to test enough living people.
It saddens me that even in a crisis like this, people are being political and taking sides!

"I've found there are two types of thoughts especially worth avoiding...

One I've already mentioned: thoughts about money.

The other is disputes. So avoid disputes if you want to get real work done."

Will Covid-19 affect its production rate going forward?

It is intriguing to see what these companies do to deal with disrupted supply chains!
