Re:Show HN: Luculent, a new code/terminal font on Friday March 07, 2014 @01:21PM (#7361809)
This looks decent but not so great when using large sized fonts. I have yet to find a better font for my terminal than NanumGothic (http://dev.naver.com/projects/nanumfont/download). It was created from a large Korean web company called Naver and I love the horizontal spacing especially when using larger sized fonts (ie size 16 and above since I like fonts large on terminal)
Re:A Soft Murmur – Ambient sounds to wash away distraction on Saturday December 28, 2013 @07:16PM (#6977354)
This is great, and I'll use this while working. I love certain sounds, but not every types of noise, so it's great to be able to choose the combination.

There's a lot of ASMR youtube videos, which I find very relaxing and helps to get in the zone. However, sometimes it also helps me to fall asleep, which is bad when I want to work. Anyway, ASMR puts me in a state that is highly focused and relaxed at the same time.

Cubieboard 3 (aka Cubietruck) will do 1gbit as well as 1 sata port.
I worked at ER. No, you don't want to have a baby in ER. ER doctors are dealing with emergency situations and patients (auto accident, cardiac arrests, gunshot wounds, etc). I've seen one baby being delivered in ER, and it wasn't a good experience for the patient. Rather, you'd want proper pre-natal care and comfortable delivery room, with your own doctor. Also, ER treatments are more expensive. Way more expensive.
I use Great Suspender extension for Chrome, which allows me to unload the tab, so it doesn't tax the memory. Then I can selectively open the tab when I'm ready to read. Otherwise, my 100+ tabs will create havoc, and slow down the Chrome to a crawl.

Won't run on my iphone, since it requires ios 6.1.
Re:Show HN: Increase your productivity with ambient noise on Tuesday March 05, 2013 @07:40PM (#5328538)
Some interesting music/audio for coding: 1. ambient sounds of star trek lcars (http://www.lcarscom.net/) and the repetitive beeping noise. 2. classic video game music on NES, like Super Mario Bros., Zelda 3. ASMR (search youtube) works wonder for those are affected by it. It puts the listener into a super-relaxed state, which can only be described as tingling or extreme pleasure for the brain. 4. Office Sound Effects (http://www.amazon.com/Offices-Sound-Effects/dp/B008HKONNA)
Re:Support EFF: Move Your Domain Day on Namecheap (1/22) on Saturday January 19, 2013 @11:32PM (#5086011)
I've transferred about half of my domains from godaddy to namecheap at the end of last year. It looks like I have a great excuse to transfer the rest of them now.

Re:The Making of Doom: Id's shooter masterpiece on Friday October 12, 2012 @01:19PM (#4645970)
Doom was the reason for building my first PC. Anyway, many years later, I read and studied doom source code, mostly to see how the game engine worked. I had it printed out on paper and read it line by line and found it to be very readable, and even entertaining.
Re:Show HN: UrbanDesk - Combination Full Size Bed and Desk on Wednesday October 10, 2012 @04:06PM (#4637916)
For small room, there's always the Ikea's Tromso loft bed and desk is only $220 (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59872897/). It' is not as elegant as the kickstarter bed but it is cheap and easy to assemble. The downside of ikea bed/desk is that when you invite your date/GF over for the first time, it is definitely not going to make any positive impression.
Re:Why Apple's new ads look like Microsoft made them. on Monday July 30, 2012 @08:07PM (#4315358)
I can't believe how high the expectation is for tv ads. It's just commercial, folks. Did you expect to see it starring Christian Bale and featuring mind blowing CGI and special effects?

As for the new ads, they aren't that bad. These ads aren't for us, geeks. Nope. These are for the majority of population, ie the rest of us. Apple's ad has always been about warm and fuzzy feeling of being human, not about cold and intimidating machines.

Sure, these ads are corny. It's cheesy. lame... But that's why these are so great. Someone mentioned in the comment comparing it to the lame Dell Dude. Yes, it was lame... but everyone remembered him and his line when we mention it. These ads leave permanent impressions in our mind. That's why these ad campaigns are effective. It's memorable, perhaps even embedded in our subconscious mind.

What I did get from the ads? The message is "Mac is great because it comes with support. If I need help with iMovie or Mac or anything else, I can get help from a Genius. We can ask them anything" Sure, it might be limited to talking to some snobbish teenage "Genius" at Apple store, but it's still better than trying to get tech-support on the phone with some guys in India who has no idea what the hell I'm talking about, or bugging children/relatives/cousins who happens to "know a lot about computers" during Thanksgiving/Christmas.

Re:ASCII Google Streetview on Monday July 30, 2012 @06:27PM (#4315010)
I'm on macbook with nvidia 9400m, only works on Firefox. On Chrome (latest) and Safari, it doesn't show anything. I wonder why WebGL isn't working on these browsers.
Thanks for the info. I will try that. I am subscribed to Comcast internet, but not TV. I have my fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll get some ClearQAM coming through the coax.
I can't get any major networks over OTA, except for channels I wouldn't watch, ie Telemundo, Univision, HomeShopping, etc. I live about 50 miles from SF. It's really frustrating, not being able to watch the Olympics. But I'd hate to go through VPN. Just like my previous viewing of World Cup,I'd have to resort to non-English channels and learn a little bit of Spanish, although their coverage is focused more toward Spanish-speaking countries.
