Fair enough - in my state they are limited to parties involved and their counsel.

The public can still see the filing and result (when the divorce was granted), but the actual documents are restricted so as not to air all of one's dirty laundry unnecessarily.

Re:Show HN: Full text search on 630M US court cases on Saturday February 19, 2022 @03:35PM (#30400290)
There are public court records (criminal, civil), and there are non-public court records (e.g. sealed - juvenile, divorce, etc.)

As far as I can tell, all of this data is of the public nature.

While it may feel weird to type in someone's name and see their history with regard to legal filings... that is the society we live in: an open society.

Aggregating a number of disconnected data sources for search I think is absolutely a legitimate usage of the data.

This is amazing. Can you share any info on how you were able to compile so much info from different sources? In my limited experience of hunting for legal filings, it seemed like every court had its own system, with nothing standardized or programmatic.

Thanks!

You are correct. Let me help rectify my transgression by providing a very consolidated list of things I can do in America that you can not do in the UAE:

1. Hold elections.

2. Form political parties.

3. Criticize my government and officials.

4. Have extra-martial or casual sex.

5. Consume alcohol.

6. Consume cannabis.

7. Be homosexual.

8. Kiss my partner in public.

9. Eat, drink, and smoke between sunrise and sunset during Ramadan.

10. Swear - both IRL and online.

Is that enough or do you need more concrete examples? The list is quite long.

> It's easy to think you have a lot of rights until you try to do something unpopular with them

Nonsense argument. Lacks details and specifics.

> I left the west for somewhere where I have a lot fewer rights on paper, but I feel so much freer now, no longer constantly worrying about what the mob thinks of everything I say.

That's where you fucked up: Caring about what [random] people think about you. Also I would love to know what country you feel more free in. For some reason I suspect this will not be answered.

> I won't defend the UAE, but the level of freedom you have in actual daily life is surprisingly disconnected from what's written in a constitution or what the government is doing.

More blah blah blah nonsense. Examples, give them. I have numerous freedoms I exercise daily (speech, worship, association, ownership of war weapons).

I think you have some unresolved emotions regarding the "nerd/jock thing".

Re:Why are young people having so little sex? (2018) on Friday February 18, 2022 @09:06AM (#30385791)
Sex is the peak of human connectivity and intimacy. It is literally the reason you are here today.

If you aren't good at sex or have bad sex, practice. That includes becoming physically fit to increase your stamina and strength during sex with your partner.

You wax poetically about UAE (mostly emotion, little fact), then remind the reader that it is an Islamic dictatorship.

Why would any intelligent person ever set foot there? I'd lose over half of my current rights as it stands.

> Never use in a RAID disks from the same vendor.

Wrong. The advice is to use the same vendor/model but from a different production run (batch).

> They could bomb military targets, not civilian populations. Yes, Tokyo contained some military facilities, that doesn't justify firebombing the entire city.

I guess history disagrees with you.

My grandfather flew a B-29 in the March 10 raid. His war journal noted that even with his mask on (oxygen/air-filtration), he could still smell the burning flesh from the destruction that had been unleashed from bombers sequenced ahead of his group.

Operation Meetinghouse[1] is/was the single most destructive bombing raid in human history. I really hope that record is never broken.

Re:Newegg has a bit of a scandal on its hands on Wednesday February 16, 2022 @08:52AM (#30359905)
A friend of mine purchased a $2500 pre-built PC in November, which was delivered to him DOA. I ended up helping him troubleshoot it as Newegg made him jump through a bunch of BS before agreeing to RMA it for a new one.

Disappointing if this is to become their standard operating procedure.

Re:Going Big with TCP Packets on Wednesday February 16, 2022 @08:39AM (#30359750)
Interesting development. However, I do wonder at some point if those desiring fast packet processing shouldn't just bite the bullet and adopt something DPDK-based (eg, FDIO/VPP).

I think pure-interrupt packet processing is challenged (for the reasons laid out in the article). But getting people to dedicate a core/thread [to RX/TX polling] is also a hard sell.

Either way this is good news - more pps/bps!

Re:Starlink adds another 100Gbps connection to the SeattleIX on Thursday February 03, 2022 @08:30AM (#30192117)
As another said it is referring to LAG (Link Aggregation Groups or "EtherChannel").

From a logical construct perspective each "2x100G" interface is represented by a single "200Gbps" layer 3 interface. When referring to 2x2x100G, it really is meaning 2 layer 3 interfaces, consisting each of 2x100G ethernet interfaces in the link aggregation group.

Hashing of L3/L4 header data provides for consistent flow -> lag member mapping to avoid OOOs and other historical multi-link issues.
