Donating feels good, but is that the goal?

People who have spent time in these areas (not as tourists) often notice the hugely damaging effects of many charities. If Western societies had relied on charity in pre-industrial times, they might never have been forced to develop strong institutions and welfare systems. Instead, they might have evolved into begging cultures.

These systems are incredibly difficult to develop because doing so goes against our selfish nature. In Tanzania, across Africa, and in many other parts of the world, people often care only about their own circle—in other words, their own family and kin.

I do believe wealth should be shared. It shouldn't be a choice; it should be an obligation. But not like this.

The ultimate goal of charities should not be to enrich individuals, but to help them build cooperative societies capable of supporting the most vulnerable.

I believe your donation only makes the problem worse. Helping people is much harder than simply giving money to someone in a way that makes you feel good about yourself—without even getting into the many Western NGO workers who profit from posts like this.

> The solution, then, seems to be holding people in power accountable, no?

The problem is that this is an extremely difficult step to achieve, because it does not simply depend on the will of the people. It depends on cultural evolution. Human beings are not naturally rational; like other species, we are driven by evolutionary processes that are often irrational and self-interested.

Most countries—and, more specifically, the majority of their citizens—have not yet reached this stage of civilizational development. The French are far from it, and I believe the Germans are as well. Despite belonging to the generation that emerged from a relatively recent period of cultural barbarism, Germany is currently supporting what is considered as the greatest genocide and one of the gravest sets of war crimes of our time. So I would not overestimate the level of civilization of a population whose majority appears unconcerned by what I see as such an obvious moral failure.

In my view, one of the roots of human barbarism is the tendency to overestimate either human nature itself or the moral achievements of one's own culture.

> they morally can't deal with - their subconscious starts throwing all sorts of obvious signs up until they get caught That's the view narcissistic have of human nature: "we feel so bad when we behave selfishly, because deep inside we are so naturally virtuous". It's very comfortable to believe that deep inside we remain virtous/innocent even if our life clearly shows how mediocre we are. In the real world, you are what you do.
mixing up bioweapons, malware, with hate speech (which is basically a censorship) shows how very basic people like Trump can win. Hopefully you won't wait to be censored before realizing that anything could be interpreted as "hate speech".

a non popular theory: the more people become civilized (not using the traditional meaning) the less basic / animal they become. Animal are programmed to follow one goal : replicating one genes. Some (few) human manage to follow more elaborate (and less selfish) goals than replicating their genes.

the debates is rich= bad, poor = good. The idea that they are all mediocre isn't popular on the left since it's a left dogma (and the reason why either the right always win or the left always loose).

knowing the russians "work ethic" (not even sure they have a word for this), and their inability to cooperate outside close familiy and frienship, I would not trust them (I don't trust US companies knowing they dont mind and risk anything breaking basic international laws), but russian tech is just many level bellow. You should really visit russia and see how people and larger cooperation such as companies and institution are working.
Taking into account our mediocre human nature, I wonder how much is actually true in what we say and believe (but can't even count on (human) statistic to answer that one, can't wait for AGI)
wéro (é like elephant)
For many people "terrorists" are the one bombing and invading, which means that Iran is currently victim of terrorism.
to be fair, I bet more human knows that USA is much more dangerous to the world "order" than Iran having a nuclear weapon (Pakistan and even Israel has it, so why not Iran and Mozambic too?)
Iranian child marriages do not reframe

Israel too to be fair "They're 15, Married With Children: Inside an Israeli Hasidic Cult's Code of Silence" (the gov and the population knows it, but it's ok) : https://archive.is/v9Amc#selection-699.0-699.83

"both sides are horrific" is convenient, but only one keep invading and bombing others since decades
But it feels (and smell) like a third world culture if you look at the air pollution level during 6 to 8 month a year (https://maps.sensor.community/#7/52.210/18.223): nearly everywhere people burn coal (among other biomass) the air is incredibly polluted.
Someone has to do it, and it should be seen as a great service to society and rewarded accordingly

You are just too priviledge to understand people: many people would be glad do do it for the minimum wage, I would fight to have that oportunity (I live in west EU).

t’s a terrible job

you must be extremy priviledge to think that way, even as EU I would be glad to do it for the minimum salary. For your info, a terrible job for most human is a job that is extremly hard physically at the point of destroying your health. That said, like many people, I would find it much more interesting than many boring job. [If someone read this, please hire me for this, in exchange I would work the 5 first hour for free]

Buying Twitter played a key part in getting Trump re-elected Some would say it was simply caused by the mediocrity of Bidden and more globally of the democrats. You don't need to brainwash people for this.
* A Zionist can want Israelites to live in peace where they currently are* = they want to live in peace in a land they took by murdering its inhabitant. You can have Jews living in Palestine though but it's not Zionism.
The reality is much simplier, it's not a one man story not even a top down one. If you had travel on those area you would know that their leader reflect the will / moral sense of the population. Most Israelis approve the genocide, most Russians and Americans don't mind invading other nations.

If only the US would follow its laws or constitution

It's not specific to US, those aren't enforced in most EU countries (eg. it's quite obvious in France).

"Iran's regime sucked" because they kicked out our western puppet? or is it because Iran is a a democracy, unlike "other Arab nations" (by the way iranian are as much arabs than you) or Israel ? (Note that I'm not fan of Iran culture, but I'm not fan of ingroup cultures either).

when you live in barbaric soeciety where the majority don't mind using force to achieve their goals at the expense of minorities or basic international law, peacefull protest become useless.
good for them, hopfeully they will be able to better protect themseves from rogue nations that don't respect international laws.
Israel is not a nation state but a western colony in Palestine (like Tibet is a Chinese colony, or Algeria was for france).
Which companies usually create these ducts? Is it a business to install ducts and sell (rent?) the right to use it?
You forgot one huge players: popular revolutions. All muslims nations that are currently managed by western puppets dictors, every single one. The puppets know their population don't like what Israels and globally most western nations are doing in the middle east and thus tried hard to pretend they support the muslim world. But this war show clearly to their population who these puppets really serve. I bet few revolutions will shake the middle east soon, and those will be powerfull (I don't believe they will create mature democraties, as those things require centuries of progress but, they won't as easy to control). And those revolution won't be easely stolen like the previous one, also because Israel don't seem to realize it lost its support from western nations, it's just a matter a time it ends up on its own.
Do you count enemies as the one we try to invade, or only as the one that invade others and more generally don't respect international laws?
Re:DRAM pricing is killing the hobbyist SBC market on Thursday April 02, 2026 @06:46AM (#47612582)
Many countries would develop much faster if there weren't bombed nor maintain by puppet dictactors from (economically) developped nations (USA and france keep doing this intensively, while countries like Germany dont mind supporting fascist states). (PS: I'm not woke, not even Marxist).

your comment makes also no sense to me, I exclusively use very low-end phones from Xiaomi since 6 years, and change it only when it's dead or when I can't run my apps (I'm afraid mine won't last 2 years more). Before this I kept my first smartphone (iphone 3GS) for 10.
I can see you aren't french, nor know the culture, else you would have known that those were only words. false promise and pretending isn't seens as really bad in france. Words are just words. Foreign naive beliefs about our culture is realy cute.
