You have to prove you are actually verifying these things and our government has done a pretty bad job at it. We have at this point hundreds of incidents of legal residents and citizens caught in this fascist net.
They already acknowledged layoffs so likely within 30 days the cull list will be presented to senior leadership.

They are also on par in a lot of classification tasks. I did have to actually use gemma4 and fine tune it a bit but that is part of the value add.
I don’t believe Elon is even remotely related to a people manager. He’s a stakeholder and operator which require different skill sets. He finds folks who will manage to o bring the empathy he tends to lose in his pursuit of his next project. I believe your evidence may be anecdotally valuable but let’s be clear about the dynamic of a founder/ceo.
Mate, wouldn’t it make sense that these rules are applied via hierarchy? If Elon respects Karparthy he almost certainly gave him a longer leash and Karparthy’s output was strong enough to not warrant intervention. It’s clear he did not want to stay long term so I’m not sure this is a strong line of thinking.
Re:We Will Not Be Divided on Saturday February 28, 2026 @02:02PM (#47198966)
Are you claiming it has been status quo for the US government to king make companies through the usage of the defense protection act when one entity refuses to remove safeguards? Do you have any examples or is this just the worldview that aligns with your own?
UniFi is simple to keep running and updated. It’s mostly plug and play as long as you have Ethernet lines. You sometimes have to hit update in the iPhone app.
Re:Clawdbot - open source personal AI assistant on Sunday January 25, 2026 @10:58PM (#46761724)
You know, as the rest of us do, that someone has already thrown it loose in the same place where they store their banking information. Oh well, lessons will be learned about containers.
Re:ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data on Sunday January 25, 2026 @06:06PM (#46759569)
Considering the AG demanded the voter rolls for MN to remove ICE it becomes obvious what game is being played. It’s a shame the USA is a terrible place.
Re:Venezuela's capital hit by explosions, smoke seen on Saturday January 03, 2026 @01:48PM (#46480103)
Prepare Canada and Greenland, you can see the standard American right wing response to unchecked war mongering right here.

On a technology note, anyone got any bets on which company gets all the free loot? Did Erik Prince rebrand for the fiftieth time? Seems like he’d be a safe bet.

Re:Qwen3: Think deeper, act faster on Tuesday April 29, 2025 @01:13PM (#43835370)
I agree - you have to treat them like juniors and provide the same context you would someone who is still learning. You can’t assume it’s correct but where it doesn’t matter it is a productivity improvement. The vast majority of the code I write doesn’t even go into production so it’s fantastic for my usage.
Re:4o Image Generation on Tuesday March 25, 2025 @07:56PM (#43477380)
I’m using 4o and it gets time wrong a decent chunk but doesn’t get anything else in the prompt incorrect. I asked for the clock to be 4:30 but got 10:10. OpenAI pro account.
Re:Mark Cuban offers to fund former 18f employees on Sunday March 02, 2025 @10:22AM (#43231294)
Yup, those with capital are the only ones positioned during times of chaos to take advantage of the situation.
Re:A Letter to the American People on Sunday March 02, 2025 @10:19AM (#43231248)
Interesting, it begs the question. Why block a small monetary pay out to the citizens when they have green lit a multi trillion dollar tax cut for those of us with wealth? Fiscal conservationism seems to be conveniently and selectively used.
Re:A Letter to the American People on Saturday March 01, 2025 @05:44PM (#43224637)
Apologies for asking, what example? There doesn’t seem to be much obstructing the agenda except Judges.
Re:A Letter to the American People on Saturday March 01, 2025 @05:42PM (#43224612)
You have a stance that would be unfair to ask you to explain via HN. Instead I’ll just ask, what’s a good starting point for understanding why you think the government needs to be unraveled? Libertarianism or something akin to anarcho-capitalism?
Re:A Letter to the American People on Saturday March 01, 2025 @05:36PM (#43224529)
Is there much value in being clearer? The republicans vote in lockstep with limited exceptions for vanity votes. They haven’t deviated from that under the existing administration. There’s not much value in pretending fiscal policy is at the root of their plan. It’s fairly transparent in its efforts to privatize government to enrich those in positions to capitalize on it.
Re:Why so many children in America have ADHD on Saturday March 01, 2025 @04:32PM (#43223897)
Perhaps you’d find Stephen Grossbergs models on how the ADHD brain processes information interesting. I can’t disagree that ADHD might be too wide an umbrella and I find the medicine is best taken on an as needed basis to augment other coping mechanisms.
Re:Why so many children in America have ADHD on Saturday March 01, 2025 @01:54PM (#43222362)
They used the TOVA test to diagnose mine. It measures what part of the attention paradigm may be deficient or overactive. AFAIK that test isn’t purely subjective.
Re:Why so many children in America have ADHD on Saturday March 01, 2025 @01:46PM (#43222283)
It’s the click on the letter test supervised by a psychiatrist for my diagnosis.
Re: on Sunday February 09, 2025 @04:22PM (#42994132)
Small dumb things stop being a valid excuse when they have material impacts on other individuals. Your right to fuck around stops when it impacts me.
Re:How to Run DeepSeek R1 671B Locally on a $2000 EPYC Server on Saturday February 01, 2025 @12:11PM (#42899936)
They are eluding to it not being secure against state actors. The distrust in government isn’t novel to this discussion so it should come as no surprise on HN. There is also a general fear of censorship which should be held more toward the base model owners and not toward cloud providers. I still think doing this in the cloud makes more sense initially but I see the appeal for a home model that is decoupled from the wider ecosystem.
Re:TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users on Sunday January 19, 2025 @03:13PM (#42761288)
Did he not start this entire process during his own presidency? It’s spectacle for the masses and real tv scripts being played out in the White House.
Re:TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users on Sunday January 19, 2025 @03:09PM (#42761244)
It’s literally pay to play with the new administration which is why it doesn’t feel coherent. He’s being courted by Meta to ban and TikTok to not ban.

The elite have always known the value of media and propaganda. TikTok could easily sway electorate decision making in the same way as Meta, X, and YouTube. The US oligarchs have no control over a sizable social media platform. The data security and privacy concerns are theater. The very same logic we use for TikTok applies to our own apps and social media. The only distinction is the false premise they have our interests in mind.

Are congressmen this incompetent? Yes. Are they bought by adversaries? Yes. Are they just humans who are as equally manipulated as you? Yes.

Did Trump get more money? Yes. Plan success.

Re:Starship is Still Not Understood (2021) on Sunday October 13, 2024 @08:41PM (#41833070)
Isn’t that difference Shotwell? It might be a bit myopic to credit a singular leader when many contributed but she feels like the obvious answer.
Re:Ask HN: Who's getting their job applications rejected? on Thursday March 28, 2024 @11:10AM (#39852559)
I’m seeing the same trend. You get the benefit of the same general working hours. We tend to only have 2-3 in house engineers and an equal amount of contractors. Those contractors are unlikely to ever be more than a senior.
Re:Ask HN: Who's getting their job applications rejected? on Thursday March 28, 2024 @11:03AM (#39852482)
They get lucrative agreements with big contracting houses to backfill those roles for cheaper than the onshore cost. PE overlords have us running on a fte/contractor ratio mandate. I can only assume it’s due to money and the ability to rapidly reduce headcount on demand.
Not often, no. What’s banking in this context mean for you? I’m assuming viewing accounts and depositing checks?
They had direct reports in HR so you might be on the mark in terms of ladder just more in the HR camp with OP as a senior manager where they combined their bonus and vest payouts? You'd just have to be a bit above Staff to hit 200k with bonus and a single vest.
Re:Adobe Firefly: AI Art Generator on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @03:17PM (#35251123)
I can’t think of a company more suited to take advantage of the generative AI hype. If firefly is built into the adobe stack you’ll have a rather elegant composition and refinement toolkit to modify anything you dislike about the generative output.
