This seems like a response tediously intent on missing the point: if you genuinely want to build a sustainable settlement on Mars, you should start by proving out sustainable settlements in harsh environments on Earth -- you could build out sustainable settlements in the Antarctic, the depths of the Sahara, and under the ocean all with substantially less expense/risk than trying to build a sustainable settlement on Mars. You'd learn how to build better sustainable settlements by doing so and encounter some of the problems you'll encounter on Mars with less dire consequences. And you don't have to choose one or the other: you can parallel path it by continuing to improve rocketry while building up sustainability strategies in harsh environments on Earth. The fact that Musk is intent on reaching Mars as the only difficult problem just underscores that he is not serious about settling Mars (or, perhaps, that he simply isn't that bright).

He's quite obviously asking for a source re: Zuckerberg donating $500m, whereas the GP is specifically decrying the lack of coverage on one specific network/site.
How to make your LLM slop sound like slightly different LLM slop.

If only there was some other way of avoiding your writing sounding LLMish. Alas!

What if the sitting president was a senile child rapist? Should he be impeached and imprisoned? I'm not saying he is, just posing a totally random hypothetical scenario.

Literally from the Wikipedia page you linked: It's limited to 27kb/s at best, and in practical conditions reaches more like 10km.
The scenes were filmed in a mock-up of the first class cabin, not a real plane.

Perhaps you should be more concerned with whether it's true than with whether it's predictable or boring?

If there’s one thing everyone knows about conspiracy theorists, it’s that they’re willing to accept concrete disproof of their theories. /s
> the agent creates a scratchpad link while on the call and texts or reads it to the customer

I can't tell if this is intentionally a joke, but it's the hardest I've laughed all day.

Unsurprisingly I've been modded down with no comment, so let me spell this out.

There are two possibilities here:

(a) You find the argument convincing, in which case you should put on your big boy pants and actually make the fucking argument

(b) You don't find the argument convincing, in which case you shouldn't waste everyone's time with it

If anyone would like to present a secret third thing, please do so.

> To steelman this position

For the love of god, stop with this shit. Either support it or don't, this isn't the medieval catholic church and you don't need some special fucking blessing to make an argument.

Re:The secret lives of men who read romance books on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @03:22PM (#49913141)
Are you referring to the thing that literally says, in very large font, “This is not a paywall”? The one with a large, easily clickable X in the upper-right corner that dismisses it with no payment required?

(The Guardian does not have a paywall.)

You lost the ‘h’.
> a TOTAL of 100 x 100 square miles of Solar

But first we’d need to develop four dimensional solar panels

In the (very limited) release of Epstein files that has already happened, Trump's name appears more often than Harry Potter's name appears in the 7 books of the Harry Potter series.
> i mean.. i get it. (point 1) i'd never do it. (point 2)

And?

> i also said, it is the internet and people will do that because famous people are... famous... and if there's an AI video of a famous person that I do like, i will give it a like.

Essentially: it happens a lot so it must be OK. Lovely morals.

> if Robin Williams was some guy who worked as a cashier at Trader Joe's his whole life nobody would care

People don't care about a random murder victim as much as they care about Rob Reiner; murder is still wrong and deplorable.

> maybe Robin Williams should have never been an actor then he'd be unknown to the masses, like 99% of us on HN

Whiny bullshit.

So your worldview boils down to: if something happens a lot, it can't be bad?
Feel free to ELI5, I'll be waiting with bated breath.
> both up and down votes prove me right.

No, they really don't.

Developing countries have done exactly that in many cases.
Re:End the H-1B Program on Sunday September 20, 2026 @12:34AM (#49772524)
HN posters when the topic is DEI or Affirmative Action: I support pure meritocracy!

HN posters when the topic is H1b visas or outsourcing: Meritocracy is horrible and I reject it!

Hilarious that you don't see the hypocrisy in your own post. I have plenty of judgment for Iran's regime, it's a pity you can't bring yourself to condemn child murderers who happen to be from your own country.
Whataboutism is a sign that you've lost the argument in the best of cases, but it's particularly disgusting to attempt to use it to distract from the blood of a hundred murdered children on your own country's hands.

Two wrongs do not, in fact, make a right.

The lesser of two evils is still, in fact, evil.

Be a better person.

You're a couple decades late there, it was Clinton and the Third Way(tm) Democrats that abandoned blue collar workers.

(Of course, that doesn't capture the full story either -- before '92, white blue collar workers were already abandoning the Democrats to support Reagan while he and the Republicans gutted private sector unions.)

> I suspect that had it gone through the regular courts, Uber would have won.

Based on what, exactly? Judging by the fact that Uber preemptively offered a $10m settlement, it seems like they did not exactly believe that they had a strong case.

I think people may disagree with you on what constitutes a tangential annoyance. Is there any point at which the format is, in fact, a legitimate annoyance?
It doesn't seem like you have anything to justify these (pretty extreme) claims, bluntly.
Re:Carney's Bid to Make Canada an 'Associate Member' of the EU on Saturday September 12, 2026 @11:13PM (#49679621)
> Every other country, including most of Europe, has hammered out some kind of deal with America

So did Canada, and Trump wiped his ass with the deal the moment he needed a distraction from another scandal. Canada is lucky to have leadership that understands the next "deal" will be equally disposable to America.
