That makes sense. AWD handling is so much better in winter conditions that I feel it has to make it less likely to crash.
I haven’t used postman for years and I don’t know why anyone would. Are people really paying for it?
Is it just uneconomic to extract it in other countries? It seems to be a byproduct of aluminum and zinc mining, and those mines are very widespread.

Strange to call it “British” when it originated in Ireland.

In-person requests for access to any app. Request interview includes word association exercise that monitors your emotional reaction to a string of key words.
Shellac is used to finish wood surfaces as well. Ridiculously versatile stuff!

If the mother took the child to a place that he couldn’t go, then yes.
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:24PM (#50283832)
I do not miss StackOverflow. It wasn’t a community, it was a toxic environment that rewarded asshole behavior.
I think, sadly, these fields will collapse further into a tighter in-group. Anyone outside that group will find it increasingly hard to penetrate. Talent won’t get you there anymore.
Re:Brown student maps the hidden global labor powering AI on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:10PM (#50251811)
The alternative to money is that we all farm, hunt or steal food from someone else, and build and maintain our own shelter; the universe owes us nothing. Money is how we trade our time and expertise for someone else’s.
In real life, you have to navigate nature as well.
Re:Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:25PM (#50249557)
This was already a well-known problem back in the dark ages, when BERT models were cutting-edge. The model is just a compression of the data, so if the data is poisoned then the model is too.
Re:Google cleared 300 hectares of Finnish forest on Thursday October 22, 2026 @03:34PM (#50199961)
For the 3/4s serious part: you’d have to spend billions of dollars to dig pretty big tunnels before you get to the same starting point as the aboveground version.

When the senior designers at Apple stared out, desktop UI was still being invented and they needed to be a kind of avant garde UI designer. They’re probably still hiring those people, but the job now is totally different, with desktop UI design being in a kind of maintenance mode.
Re:Most advice is right for the person giving it on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:57AM (#50181056)
If I have to choose between hearing advice (which I can ignore), or not getting any advice at all, I’d much rather get the advice. I’ve ignored a lot of advice in my time, but every once in a while a diamond sneaks through, and often I get an idea or two for a different way of looking at things.
I think the Gell Mann effect applies on Wikipedia just as much as in the papers. I’ve often come across articles in an area where I’m an expert and they have issues. I used to try and have them changed, but many years ago I just got exhausted by fanatics who seem to have just gotten really attached to their (incorrect) prose.
I was actually shocked to find that Subaru in the US was this kind of safe, maybe outdoorsy brand. I had never seen anything but Imprezas inspired by WRC before I got here. Only boy racers drove them where I grew up.

I guess you could try and make one, but you’d have to moderate the content.
Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:25PM (#50171410)
Supply and demand. If you don’t want to increase supply, then you can reduce prices by turning the city into the kind of place that nobody wants to live in.
Re:Credit Where Credit Is Due on Monday October 19, 2026 @06:30PM (#50158923)
The “real public” wants math to advance so that we can reap the benefits. We don’t care what tools you are or are not using, grant money will go to whichever group is making more progress.
Re:Butlerian Jihad on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:04PM (#50132859)
Sigh. It’s so tiring to argue with someone who argues about the technicalities of argument rather than actually talking about the thing they are talking about.
Re:Butlerian Jihad on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:26PM (#50132455)
You’re talking about people with kids, wives, friends, hopes and dreams when you’re saying “Eggs break, period”. By reinforcing that view, you are helping to build the kind of society that just won’t care when you happen to be one of the eggs yourself.
Re:Butlerian Jihad on Saturday October 17, 2026 @10:42AM (#50131610)
Were they wrong? Didn’t a lot of those people end up in tenements in factory towns and down in the mines? It was a few generations before things really started to get better. I’m all for progress, but I’m not really up for disposing of people lives with a “to make an omelet you have to break some eggs” mentality.

Wouldn’t your car be off when you’re on a ferry anyway?
This is the kind of mistake I dread, where a normal human would be able to say "oh, sure of course this is a mistake, sorry about that", but you don't get to talk to a human. A corporation can wait months for resolution, but an individual can't.
If you have 1000, it might be better to just set up a custom domain and just use a wildcard alias.
When did you create that workflow? I ask because I used to have something with a lot of carefully designed stuff like that back in Spring, but as the Summer progressed I found that getting out of the agent's way more and more has worked really well. I've been coding for 17 years, so this year has been a real journey as I've let go of some of the control of "this is how each step must be done". Those years of experience do mean that problems jump out pretty readily after the fact and and once you point out the problems to the agent it's pretty good at correcting them.

Today, I generally spend a few hours on a spec, let the agent run for 4 to 6 hours and I'm 90% there, with maybe a couple of days of tweaks, then a couple of days of iterations coming from user feedback after that. I've stopped using skills almost entirely now, mainly using them just to keep discovery of MCP or API docs out of context until needed. I have a few bullet points on testing and style in AGENTS.md, but I'm pretty sure it would probably run pretty close to what I'm looking for even without those these days.

Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:55PM (#50074861)
Interestingly, Apple just released a “home collection” of LG products. I wonder how private they’re going to be.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:16AM (#50071239)
I got an iPad mini a few years ago and tried to use it like this. There’s almost no actual utility to it that “Siri set a timer for 12 minutes” or “Siri what’s the weather like” doesn’t already do on my phone.
Why wouldn’t you just rebuild the VM every day? Then you don’t have to run around trying to catch and delete things, it’s set up with exactly what you want.
