Re:Web3 – A Vision for a Decentralized Web on Friday October 01, 2021 @05:52PM (#28723783)
Revolution Populi is another interesting project that is working on a decentralized database with user controls and an SDK for creating social networks. According to them, preliminary testing of their blockchain showed support for +100k transactions per second: https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1414962828335894536
Difficulty of a job is probably viewed differently from person to person also. I've done both programming and commercial fishing and I'd say they take different types of effort. Depending on the fishery, you could have a few months with lots of intense physical work and not much sleep, but the plus side is you get to work out on the ocean in a beautiful environment and you can travel around and not work for the rest of the year. One tech job I had, I was on call 24/7 with hours of commuting each day and it was very stressful and mentally tiring in my experience.

Thanks for making this! The links to more info about languages or treaties when you click on a territory is a nice touch.

Do you realize how much time and effort it takes to live in the arctic? It's a full time job. You need to make sure you have enough firewood for the winter, enough food from hunting and fishing. You need to maintain vehicles, equipment, and your home so it can withstand harsh conditions, etc.
Miner Extractable Value (MEV) is a problem. They can choose which transactions to include in a block and how to order them.

Yeah, I talked with Matt about it at a party around the time he was going into lawsuits with Alex Jones and some alt-right people. He's a really nice dude. He hadn't been very familiar with 4chan before Pepe became a meme and was bummed that Pepe was being branded a hate symbol since he's writing children's books now. #savepepe

I have a friend from Japan who has lived in the US for over 25 years or so. A couple years ago he went back to visit family and said that people were treating him very strangely because he is Japanese and speaks the language, but he was having to ask people how to do everyday things like buy train tickets because everything is so different from when he grew up there.

The atmosphere created by the sound design and music is a big reason I liked it.

I remember reading about that here as it was happening.

Yes, I first learned about this from Cryptonomicon. Apparently it wasn't performed using LCD screens until 5 years after the book was published.
Then they should have done some research about the neighborhood they were moving into.

Congrats to the team! I've been trying out Crystal and Amber recently and have really enjoyed using it.

As a native, I agree with you. There aren't sports teams named after other people's skin colors. It's just weird.

Re:Ask HN: Do you create music? let's hear it on Monday March 08, 2021 @07:26PM (#26393631)
Here's a project with a couple friends called Computer. It's weird. A lot of synths, improv, overdubs, field recordings, samples, editing: https://skrotup.bandcamp.com/album/american-digital-prayer

Description from the label: '1. American Digital Prayer turns the building blocks of our perplex modern existence into a provocative sound collage of 0s and 1s questioning (or mocking?) the core values of high-tech society. 2. Google Computer's first release titled "Internet" and you will be taken to a magic place.'

I ask the DJ to play an underground Italian new wave minimal electro duo... Of course he doesn't have it. I settle for Daft Punk.

On PS4 I ran into a bug near the end of "The Pickup" mission where Jackie gets stuck inside the All Foods building. The next objective is to talk to him, but once you exit the building you can't re-enter or call him. I had to go back to a previous save a few times. Sometimes the game just crashes and I have to restart the console. There have been some other bugs that I just found funny, like once I was driving and all of a sudden the car was stuck hundreds of feet in the air and I fell and died when I got out. I've been enjoying the game though and the bugs haven't really bothered me too much, but I see how they could.

Sacred Son's self titled album is a really funny black metal album cover, but it's probably not appreciated by a lot of black metal fans. https://www.discogs.com/Sacred-Son-Sacred-Son/release/115028...
Re:AT&T Fiber in the SF Bay Area is flipping bits on Tuesday December 08, 2020 @12:56AM (#25342363)
I had to switch also after missing days of work due to not being able to use the internet with AT&T. They just kept trying to send new routers, which was not the problem. And I thought ISPs in Alaska were bad, I never thought I'd have worse service in the Bay Area.
Re:Show HN: I Rebuilt MySpace from 2007 on Sunday November 29, 2020 @03:36PM (#25247854)
Nice work, I made a lot of good friends through the music section of the old MySpace and have been working on something similar. Facebook, Bandcamp, Soundcloud just aren't the same.

Re:How to buy clothes that are built to last on Saturday September 28, 2019 @08:01PM (#21103961)
I like Common Projects sneakers. They're expensive, but the quality is good. I used to go through lots of pairs of Vans or Converse, but I've had a pair of the Achilles Low for a few years and they're still in good shape even with a lot of wear. The soles are durable. They are also very plain/minimal looking so I can wear them for casual walking around or even instead of a dress shoe sometimes.
This reminds me of a browser I tried out years ago called Raven. It had a similar interface with icons for different sites along the side. It doesn't look like the website is still online though. https://web.archive.org/web/20111124103600/http://raven.io/
