my friends and I always half joke about this too. It's likely the sad truth.
Commuting downtime is a major drain on productivity. Self driving cars could possibly remove traffic lights completely.
>This is unnecessarily dangerous.

Bullshit. If one car running with "CarOs 1.0" has a collision you can be sure that engineers will ensure that this specific case will never happen again in the future. Autonomous cars have already clocked up over 100k miles from multiple vendors. The government is needed to step in now because this tech is going to hit the roads in the next five years anyway, whether they get out of the way or not.

Did you read the article? Such a monumental change in behavours is going to bring in massive changes to the legal framework, safety standards, insurance practices and road markings and upgrades to name a few aspects.
Re:Why Bitcoin Can't Help the Poorest, Yet on Wednesday January 13, 2016 @08:39PM (#10899059)
Bitcoin helped me with servicing my loan in my home country when I was earning in another currency. I escaped foreign exchange fees. Its a use case that a lot of people have but it's unfortunate that the most vocal people telling us bitcoin can't do something are those who don't seem to have that need for its use.
So all these truckdrivers that are being replaced with self driving rigs are going to get into biotech now?
Re:New Zealand court rules Kim Dotcom can be extradited to US on Tuesday December 22, 2015 @11:41PM (#10781996)
I don't mean to flame but even the slightest cursory look at world culture would have given you the answer to this question.
I think the reason is because then there would be no way for new coins to be mined and given to those who are rewarded for ensuring the security of the network.

Are you kidding me, if I was female colleges would fall over backwards if I was inclined to take up STEM subjects.
Re:The Tech Talent Shortage Is a Lie on Thursday November 12, 2015 @11:51PM (#10558071)
I suspect this is a concern rage clickbait piece from techcrunch. Just because one CEO with a limited view of the entire industry says something doesn't make it true. I work in a tech field at an advanced level and there are so many other vast and varying fields that I simply don't stand a chance of getting a job in another. It simply couldnt be the case that the US has an abundance of experts in all these fields.
Women are, in the vast vast majority, far superior at raising children. To deny this is to deny reality.
Re:Gene Amdahl has died on Thursday November 12, 2015 @11:42PM (#10558043)
We really need to rid the world of Alzheimer as soon as possible. The bittersweet thing is that today's golden era titans of innovation may not live long enough for these anti-aging treatments to be deployed.
The cause of this was the vilification of motherhood by society. Girls needed to be "strong independent women" and the concept of women being a kind and nurturing homemaker was seen as old fashioned, even though these skills are absolutely essential to raising a well grounded, sensible self actuated and well adjusted child. The fabric of our society depends on it and somehow this was allowed to happen.
