I got a really cool picture out of this years eclipse:

If you zoom in, you realize that every little pinhole between the leaves of the trees, works as a pinhole camera, drawing a little sun circle- and that during a eclipse, the whole shadow is made of thousands of little eclipsed suns.

Japan did the same. And its colonies (Taiwan, Korea) became similar sucesses inheriting the institutions and infrastructure.
Is there something like a domino theory for earth quakes? Like first some stress releases in Venezuella, then the same stress travells further up the boundary, triggering a earth quake in a different region? Working its way up the plate boundary towards a big one like a fuse?

If i was china wanting to invade taiwan, this is what i would buy.
Sanctions where circumvented by russia and china. The economic malaise was caused by using the oil wealth to fund proxxies.
Re:Denmark: EVs Make Up 97% of New Private Car Sales in July on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @04:05AM (#49165637)
eh, this is EU people regularly and en mass do comute across borders for work.
We need a aponge country for these summers, something that can hold onto water.
Re:Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share on Monday August 03, 2026 @09:56AM (#49155882)
The whole economic landscape of the us is artifical. As in what survives and thrives does not need to provide any value, but need only have political connections, to remove competition and be good enough to supress all alternatives.

The oil and gas industry survives and dictates policy not because its very influential- its simply the economic backbone of the empire via the petrodollar. https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrodollar

And the people life in de-concentrated large scale villages instead of cities, because the empire is in no need to tax economic activities such as moving large distances via driving a car efficiently. So the government, cursed with the ressource curse of beeing able to sell security outside of the us- pacifies the population with economic presents, which are often just frozzen in time retro trinkets.

One can not derive any political and economic lessons from such a strange diorama.

There is no incentive

Leave the windows leaned open so it cools down in the office over night? Impossible due to insurrance. Somebody dies from overheated office and you want to sew the insurrer who enforced this ridiculous rules even on the third floor.. impossible, due to..
Take the agricultural policies in the EU. They want to correct against overproduction while doing ecologically good but they interpolate of cause from past data. Now take the hottest year on earth to come in 2027 due to El Nino and that collapsing already strained expected harvest and you are looking at reasonable policies producing starvation, due to a inability to plan for a future not in the data yet.

And the whole glut is artifical in the first place because surplus wheat is not allowed to be used as energy, no it must rot in storage snd get "animal grade" before you can use it otherwise. The whole reason the eu system still works is because the traders largely ignore the central planing system, shipping things from high regulated eu countries to "i dont give a f**" countries, recertify it there and then reimport.

Re:Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share on Sunday August 02, 2026 @06:05PM (#49148880)
The rot is that a empire selling security can subsidize any economic policy indefinitely and is completely decoupled from anything resembling a free market forever.
Re:Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share on Sunday August 02, 2026 @06:01PM (#49148839)
Nothing you wrote there makes sense, there is just no chain of causality in it.
I think this landscape is littered with simulated systems as honeypot. Once you have it a normal adversary would stop searching, besides regular checks that the gun still works.
Be aware that these systems remain on when your powerfuse blows as long as there is sunlight. This can be a real nightmare with electrical fires.
Re:Study uncovers lost 'golden age' of languages on Saturday August 01, 2026 @12:29PM (#49135805)
Unless the language lacks concepts and like scientific recombinateability and the cultural Nexus of youth just moves.
Also handicapped (by age or birth) individuals in nature are always squeezed into subpar territories where they then wither and sucumb
Re:How to Spot AI Writing on Saturday August 01, 2026 @11:50AM (#49135448)
Its prone to lists though, to endlessly squeeze, aggregate and accumulate elements, because a sequence of loosely connected elements allows it to pwm the statistic rivers it trys to bundle into the most likely sentence.
Re:PostgreSQL and the Linux OOM Killer: A Better Default on Saturday August 01, 2026 @11:21AM (#49135229)
I wish there was a orm that lets you autoswitch between static notify cached parts and dynamically subqueried fast changing data.
Its also has no big picture - it just can add ever more - cancer can grow, but it will kill the host organism and end years down the line as a dead end.

The "engineers" using that AI. Could they repass the whiteboard tests of old? Have not some of them quietly left?

Yeah, we should deport all those insane ideolouges of the west there from the countryside, call it utopia and leave them to it, like the likes of you left the cities once you destroyed them.
Arab colonialism?
Because if you compromise with mad ideologies you loose a hand..

When a product stagnates and the investors get cautious, its time to pivot towards the military sector a safe space from the brute forces of capitalism and markets.
Re:So you want to use plants to reduce CO₂ on Thursday July 30, 2026 @06:03PM (#49116447)
You could induce artificial algea blooms. All that needs is iron and light + water soluble co2 and / or o2. If you are greedy you pump light down into the depths , go cubic instead of quadratic?
Why has the us not yet mined every tunnel exit via cheap drones? Why is this war dragging on?
Re:How Olinia Turns Mexico's EV Ambition into Reality on Thursday July 30, 2026 @04:28PM (#49115317)
Thank you for putting the burden of proof on me instead of wearing that coat yourself- like the optics guy you are.

Well: Energy is 54 % of the money. Which is mostly for the industry up north. Renewables are decorative in the percentage.

Rail: 15.63 % - again mostly for the norther industrial zone- and some link ups with the southern neighbours (under the guise of helping the backwards regions down there).

Roads: 13.94 % same though alot of it is also for tourism. But also logistics.

Ports: 7% Sofar its mostly a trade and industry support program- bluntly directed at becoming the usas new industrial heartland.

The problematic part is that most of this infrastructure is private loan based investment in partnership with the mexican goverment. US-companies will own significant parts of the infrastructure down there and thus have a handle on the government.

This is mostly a "re-industrialize" the us plan without having the problems with industr you have in the us.

Maximum effort going nowhere for 70 years.
Re:How Olinia Turns Mexico's EV Ambition into Reality on Thursday July 30, 2026 @02:41PM (#49113939)
Something that fits to a poor struggling country, not some upper crust infra renewal.

Poor people need rail, busses, cars and the cheapest possible power. If the government does not provide the cartels are more then ready to do its job to placate the citizens.
