I dont think thats correct. With these keys you can sign whatever you like and have it run on the PS3.

Re:New PlayStation 3 Hack May Be One That Sony Can’t Stop on Friday October 26, 2012 @03:48AM (#4701266)
Ive noticed that there is too much spam concerning PS3 on the internet, perhaps Sony itself or a contractor has the mission to pollute search-phrases like "ps3 hack, ps3 custom firmware" and so on. Before these where leaked the first 3 pages on google for anything relating to hacking the ps3, custom brew etc, where links to really sketchy forums with really sketchy downloads - all leading to similar archives of "custom" firmware for 4.10 for example, the size of ~250MiB which was password locked and you where told to fill out a form on several sites to get the password, basically just a huge time waste.

It makes sense, to combat piracy by using spam/scam techniques. That will keep the pirates or would-be pirates out.

Re:SSH key and passwordless login basics for developers on Thursday October 25, 2012 @07:42AM (#4697206)
ssh doesnt depend on Gnome or KDE, what are you talking about?

These articles are spam. They are collections of snippets from various man pages and other older resources on the internets. If you think theyre useful, go back to the study room, youll not advance your skills by expecting "tutorials" on how to use ssh without kde(!?). Your asking the wrong questions, and will be led down a fruitless path.

Re:SSH key and passwordless login basics for developers on Thursday October 25, 2012 @07:40AM (#4697199)
Seems the "secure your ssh" articles which contain snippets from "man ssh_config" is returning every week now on HN.

Jesus Christ people, if you need an article to use a simple tool like dont even bother.

Re:Introducing the USB Stick of Death on Monday October 22, 2012 @11:12AM (#4683467)
You appear to not understand the concepts you are attempting to participate in a discussion about.

To "trigger" the vulnerability is to deliver your exploit code. This USB stick can be inserted into any Windows 7 system and, voila you have your rootkit on that machine, without any user interaction required. No running of .exe files anywhere. You could put some pictures on the usb drive for the user to look at while his system is compromised. (Rootkitted is that a word? Backdoored is.)

Post a stacktrace? You can take a photo for us of the kernel panic.
Re:I Just Paid Facebook $7 on Monday October 22, 2012 @03:02AM (#4682115)
Email is the least secure technology you can pick. For my communications, sharing birthday-pictures and so on, Id like to know that it takes more than to just sniff the somewhere along its path.
Re:Sol — a sunny little homemade virtual machine on Tuesday October 16, 2012 @03:56AM (#4658821)
Yes, you said too much already.

There was a "spotify" or music service thing leaked from facebook js code a while back. So what you are saying facebookers will integrate even more closely with spotify. Listen to music in the browser with friends? Yey.

Re:Syte: Simple but powerful packaged personal site on Monday October 15, 2012 @03:37AM (#4654118)
"My" personal site? Or facebooks, twitters, foursquare extended profile of me?

Who would want their personal site to be connected to so many other sites, all whom are more powerful and make more money on your site than you?

Re:Building websites in Python with Flask on Friday October 12, 2012 @04:22AM (#4644197)
So you took flask documentation, some other sources and made it into a blog post about it?
Re:The software development final exam: Mathematics on Wednesday October 10, 2012 @06:58AM (#4635800)
I do not see how a web developer or DBA will feel better about themselves and more confident in what they do if they knew the answer to these questions. It isnt even related to the work a Java EE architect does.
Re:I made a 'search engine' for fun on Wednesday October 10, 2012 @04:35AM (#4635555)
You hijacked my middle-click to open in same tab instead of another one. Gah!

Otherwise, very good work. I was suprised it can even do simple sentence-search.

How did you make this, what is the backend?

Re:Zip Bomb on Friday October 05, 2012 @08:12AM (#4616530)
Unfortunately I do not. This is where that project to store all your browsing history "in the cloud" (preferrably your own "cloud" would have been handy. So you never again miss something and go searching for it again, you know youve seen it -> search in your own history which contains the content right then as it was.
Facebooks private messages are censored. Here in the western world we can not message one another freely when using this Facebook, of which many think are some kind of nice private messaging system like email. Its not and never was. For example try to send a thepiratebay.org link to your friends as a private message. Who knows what more they censor, perhaps the really interesting bits to censor seem to you like they have been delivered, but facebook never actually shows it to your firend. You would never know.

Also, you cant send life-changing notifications through messages to all your friends, for example there is a cap I think on to message 30 people at once.

Re:Zip Bomb on Friday October 05, 2012 @05:41AM (#4616225)
Yes they will, there was a post a while back which used this to bomb the browser.
Re:Facebook has 1 billion monthly active users on Friday October 05, 2012 @03:08AM (#4615949)
Yes I do, have to keep up with my friends. Sometimes I post pictures from the other accounts, but not very often, just enough to seem legit. Facebook has detected that one of the accounts may be false, and has warned me about it, thats why I began posting and sharing stuff so their bull-detecting-system wouldnt go off. It hasnt so far.
Re:Facebook has 1 billion monthly active users on Thursday October 04, 2012 @10:48AM (#4612504)
I am counted as 4 people at least.

Back in 2008, I created some accounts for fun to see how Facebook worked, began sending out random requests first day to 4-5 people, next day to 4,5 people. On the third day I had more than 40 friends and was in a circle in some other country and people began writing on my wall asking how I am. Lame.

Re:Can programmers without CS degrees find jobs? on Tuesday October 02, 2012 @04:19AM (#4601039)
You should learn more server-side programming, pick up Java even though its loathed around here. The stuff you'll learn from it is x2000 more than JS/Jquery, html/css and such web-browser programming. Its a steep steep learning curve, but its so much more worthwhile than merely making fancy web pages.

To answer your question, no you dont need a CS degree to get a job, but you do need something to show for, and a web app like all the startups are, is not something to show for. You need to make your own full-stack application, from the back to the front, and it has to be more than a blog or todo list, and you have to setup your own server from scratch with all the configurations. Can you do that? Then you can get a job.

SecureBoot, UEFI and such, the PC is forced to stop being a general purpose computing device, and more like an xbox, ps3 or smartphone - a computing device where the manufacturer and/or os-maker controls what can and will run on the device.

Its about your freedom. Freedom to run whatever computations you please on general purpose computers that you own. With SecureBoot and win8 so is not the case.

Counter-Strike is such a game that will never go out of style, generations to come will look back on it as we now look to chess.
Re:Python is doing just fine on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @09:03AM (#4575344)
When JavaScript becomes a more stable general purpose language, Python will have to make a run for its cash.

We have seen node.js and jslibs exists, as well as OpenGL bindings for v8. Microsoft has bade WinRT where JavaScript is a first-class citizen for desktop programs. What can python offer then? Numpy and scipy and twisted? Those are just libraries, and bindings can be made from JS to their respective hot-spots of C.

JavaScript is already beating Python in speed.

Grsecurity has it.
Re:Java flaw allows “complete” bypass of security sandbox on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @03:48AM (#4574611)
I like the guy who responded to that with "Full disclosure? This is touching yourself in public."

And for sure it is, on a fulldisclosure list, nothing is revealed. My monocle dropped in my morning Java.

Re:Did Blowing Into The NES Cartridge Really Work? on Wednesday September 26, 2012 @03:09AM (#4574513)
I got a NES a few days ago with some games. Yes, blowing into the cartridge works just as it always has. It can take 10 tries without blowing without getting any video/audio, but blowing another game once or twice and the game is on.
Re:Generation of Music Using Pure JS and HTML5 on Monday September 24, 2012 @10:00AM (#4564684)
This should make it easier to make a pure js NES emulator. We have sprites/canvas/webgl, and this level of audio fits perfectly.
Re:SeenBefore: A search engine for what you have seen before on Monday September 24, 2012 @09:41AM (#4564577)
And would it be possible to configure it to use my own "cloud"?
