I think that usually refers to that they take over a part of the required contribution or that it allows you to pay more into the pension.
Yes. This drives me crazy as well.

What you have to do is use group policy to manage your firewall (secpol.msc) and tell it to ignore local firewall rules.

Re:Ask HN: What VPN service are you currently using? on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @12:39AM (#19252240)
Yes. But that article never worked for me.

Modern men call it: "There is no free lunch!"

Re:Ask HN: What VPN service are you currently using? on Monday February 25, 2019 @06:14AM (#19244749)
You could start here:

https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/Gigabit_Networks_...

>It is easily possible to saturate a 100 Mbps network using an OpenVPN tunnel. The throughput of the tunnel will be very close to the throughput of regular network interface. On gigabit networks and faster this is not so easy to achieve. This page explains how to increase the throughput of a VPN tunnel to near-linespeed for a 1 Gbps network.

I think the protocol just wasn't designed for such high speeds.

Re:Ask HN: What VPN service are you currently using? on Monday February 25, 2019 @05:21AM (#19244532)
>but given that most of the sites and service you use aren't able to deliver 1Gbps to you directly

You would be surprised how wrong this statement is.

Especially if you are a gamer, almost any platform can max out a Gbit connection easily.

Besides at those speeds you start seeing all kinds of issues (like OpenVPN implementation being very inefficient).

Why don't you switch to paid Gmail?
Re:ASK HN: Has anyone adopted Chrome OS as their primary OS? on Friday February 22, 2019 @10:34AM (#19226143)
Market share of Chrome OS is significantly less.
Re:Block Ads in Apps on Android on Wednesday February 20, 2019 @12:46PM (#19209981)
The time very much matters. 1-2% per hour is much different than 1-2% per day or per week or whatever.
Re:Block Ads in Apps on Android on Wednesday February 20, 2019 @10:46AM (#19208756)
You forgot to say what timeframe.
Re:The shady economics of ‘buy one, get one free’ deals on Monday February 18, 2019 @06:54AM (#19190080)
Also with these "deals" you often also have to ask yourself:

Are you buying it because it is cheap or are you buying it because you need it? Often people buy stuff they don't need because it is on sale "right now."

Re:WireGuard for MacOS on Monday February 18, 2019 @04:10AM (#19189458)
It depends on what you want to protect. It is obviously great if you use a lot of public wifi for example.

It's also great if your government is spying on you.

Otherwise you just delegate the privacy issues from your ISP to the ISP of your output server.

Personally, there is no reason to run a VPN all time from your home connection.

Re:WireGuard for MacOS on Monday February 18, 2019 @04:06AM (#19189445)
You only need root if you want to run it as a kernel module. Otherwise it will just run in userspace.
I tried that but I get FOMO. Like I feel like I get to discover so many interesting things (news about niche games etc) because of Reddit but at the same time I also hate it.
A lot of the moderators in Reddit are powerhungry or are marketing shills. Since it satisfies their needs I don't think they mind it being not paid.
Re:Air Canada agents reveal overselling practices on Monday February 11, 2019 @06:33AM (#19133673)
No, European Airlines do this as well. But if you check in online, you have your seat.
For long hauls I'd always recommend to upgrade to Premium Economy. It's not quite first class, but it's much better than regular economy imho.
I think if the next iPhone will have USB-C, I will switch over from Android.

The general app quality on iOS seems to be much better than Android.

Re:The Apple iPhone XR Review on Wednesday February 06, 2019 @01:10AM (#19093098)
Isn't there also a difference in Camera and other small features? Don't think it's just the screen that is different.
Re:The Apple iPhone XR Review on Wednesday February 06, 2019 @01:08AM (#19093090)
How so? An OLED will always have better blacks than an LCD screen, which leads to better contrast, which leads to better picture quality (perceived at least).
Re:Reddit is raising a huge round near a $3B valuation on Tuesday February 05, 2019 @01:37PM (#19088266)
Sadly I feel like Reddit has become like a Facebook news feed.

That and the fact that now so many comments keep getting deleted and posts locked makes me wonder who the target audience is these days.

Also the overzealous moderators are annoying.

Re:EU and Japan create world's biggest free trade zone on Friday February 01, 2019 @10:21AM (#19054782)
Amazon.de is a different company than amazon.com (by law at least)
Re:U.S. Changes Visa Process for High-Skilled Workers on Wednesday January 30, 2019 @11:21PM (#19042299)
It's kind of weird that work experience can't replace the master degree in this case.
Re:Boeing 787 Suffers Rare Dual Engine Failure on Landing on Wednesday January 30, 2019 @11:47AM (#19036677)
It doesn't at all. It's an explanation why it might happen. They never said that this behavior won't be fixed or changed. It's not blaming the pilots.
Re:AMD Open Source Driver for Vulkan on Wednesday January 23, 2019 @12:59AM (#18976014)
Thanks. It's not easy to find information like this. How did you find it?
Re:AMD Open Source Driver for Vulkan on Wednesday January 23, 2019 @12:48AM (#18975959)
It's not like I'll upgrade any time soon. A lot can happen in all those years! I'll see
Re:AMD Open Source Driver for Vulkan on Tuesday January 22, 2019 @04:28PM (#18972681)
Yet I can still not read CPU core temperatures of my ryzen 2600 on Linux (5.0-rc2). I am not sure what is going on but I think next time I'll go with Intel again. I read this may be related to some NDA by AMD but not sure.
I can't stand those scooters. Many people drive with them without being careful to other traffic. Some of them just swerve around in bike lined etc
Re:Company Update on Friday January 18, 2019 @10:26AM (#18939899)
I see. That makes sense. Thanks.
Re:Company Update on Friday January 18, 2019 @09:06AM (#18939345)
Yes. That's exactly my point. The argument "people are saving the planet by just changing to electric" is not quite correct.
