This "social media spreading democracy around the world" may need to be re-evaluated soon.

That is an issue with any storage media where storage density increases relative to size.

The idea of cloud storage or streaming audio/video sounds even less enticing.
The technology you refer to has not changed since 1975.

It is a stretch to call this smarthome technology considering the ban on incandescent bulbs, which completely eliminate X10s ability to dim or fade bulbs (because you are using CFL, and if you use a x10 dimmer on a CFL, you can burn down a house), and writing any sort of logic based on whether the device is on or off is not possible.

Now Insteon supports bi-directional communication and you can determine state, but you are looking at $45 per outlet or switch versus the $8 X10 stuff.

So, yeah, still out of most people's price range, unless you want to settle for over 30 year old technology.

Oh, but don't use CFL bulbs with those wall switches or light sockets.

...and good luck determining whether the device is on or off.

Well, my question concerns even the 'specific repetition gesture sequence'.

For instance, if I'm on my couch and perform the gesture while my cat jumps on the couch arm between myself and the WiSee, what happens?

Or my cat is in the other room, but walks in front of the WiSee while I'm performing the gesture, what happens?

Can this differentiate between multiple humans gesturing at the same time (intentional or otherwise)?

What about pets moving around or turning the shower on?

Sorry you are taking so much crap from everybody on HN here.

We may not like current IP laws in the US, but they are the current IP laws in the US.

I agree with your reasoning.

Re:What people use their Raspberry Pi's for on Friday May 31, 2013 @02:44PM (#5800526)
I've used inexpensive bilge pumps from Walmart or Sears and a 12V relay.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Shoreline-Bilge-Pump/16609596 These start at $13 for 600 GPH.

Then use a 5V relay to switch the 12V relay.

Do you have any instructional sources for growing cilantro?

I have only been able to keep mine alive for about 2 months before they die.

Re:Giving Up Paying Off $186,000 Student Loan Debt on Thursday May 30, 2013 @07:46AM (#5791912)
I have a hard time believing she could obtain a student loan without any further classes to attend, that is why I assume it is a private loan.
Re:Giving Up Paying Off $186,000 Student Loan Debt on Wednesday May 29, 2013 @04:58PM (#5789040)
Please read the article.

Law degrees take 3 years to complete.

Her father, a doctor, paid for a year of her undergraduate studies, leaving her free to dodge student loans for a while.

Not full, just one year.

"My intention was to go back to work after my first year of law school," she said. "[But] I did so poorly that I didn't think I could [keep a job at the same time]. So that’s when I started borrowing money."

I seriously doubt she had a 3 year scholarship to law school, especially after doing poorly the first year.

Also, she graduated in 1994, so either that year, or 1993 was the last year she took out student loans.

Re:Giving Up Paying Off $186,000 Student Loan Debt on Wednesday May 29, 2013 @04:46PM (#5788957)
It wasn't until 1991 that student loan debt was no longer dischargeable through bankruptcy.

So, although unlikely, she may have based her decision on the possibility that, worse case scenario, she could have declared bankruptcy.

Now the $20,000 personal loan for living expenses, I assume would still be dischargeable in bankruptcy.

...or the box look with the pinterest double-column BS.
Who is your ISP? What type of connection (DSL/cable/fiber/radio)?

I have a flaky* DSL connection of 2.6Mbps and I notice the AJAX calls to facebook crap out.

* During wind or rain, cuts out for a minute about 4 to 6 times per hour.

Based on your literal interpretation, the 5th amendment would only apply to the male gender, no?

How did you first become exposed to Oxycodone?

What finally enabled you to get clean 9 months ago?

Do you feel there is a solution to prevent others from becoming addicted to opiates?
