Re:Ask HN: What laptop are you using to daily drive Linux? on Saturday March 02, 2024 @11:12PM (#39578361)
I also have an XPS 15 and I hate it. The sharp edge of the keyboard deck is so uncomfortable on my wrists. It also flexes a ton of I move it and will register clicks. And then it gets scorching hot.

I'm glad you like it but I can't wait to get a new laptop someday.

Re:Ask HN: Nobody interested in an open hardware iPod Nano? on Thursday February 29, 2024 @06:20PM (#39556521)
I host a Navidrome music server at home. I can access my personal music collection from anywhere in the world, privately and self-sovereignly and I don't have to decide what music to take with me anymore.

I'm very nostalgic for the iPod days but it's just a bygone era. Us music-lovers and audiophiles have upgraded our game.

If you know anything about their parent company this downgrade is warranted.

Seriously, those shorts are the closest thing to crack (which I've never had) I can imagine. One evening after work I clicked on one and before I knew it 3.5 hours had passed.

Shorts and the like should be regulated as a controlled substance.

Not in depth, general understanding
That's not actually how Nostr works. It is a hub (relay) and spoke (client) architecture where clients can connect and publish to N relays. No ledger and no propagation.

No one who has bought and held Bitcoin in self custody has lost their shirt.
Re:Tesla earns $690M less than expected in third quarter on Thursday October 19, 2023 @12:32AM (#37938434)
I bought one before all his shenanigans and I regret it. I went from loving the car to feeling pretty gross about it in the course of like 3 weeks.
Re:Kagi finally let me lay Google Search to rest on Wednesday October 11, 2023 @09:32PM (#37852464)
Yea I also worry about this. At this moment Kagi feels like the best I can do for search.

Unfortunately these days I won't be surprised to hear of fuckery from them. It's happened too many times.

Firing a weapon in the air is a supremely bad idea. Especially in a city. ESPECIALLY in NYC.
I have a Samsung smart TV. When I got it and connected to my WiFi I saw all the phone homes coming from it on my PiHole.

I hooked up an Intel NUC with Linux on it and factory reset the TV and blackholed it's MAC. No more spying.

This is just moving the complexity to your build process.

Didn't see a purchase link. Would love to buy one.
Re:Nobody cares about your blog on Sunday July 16, 2023 @01:14AM (#36743902)
This is something that's held me back a bit. My blog is at my email domain which means anyone I talk to could go read it. That means potential employers.

I might set up another domain for those topic that I start to write and abandon because it's not something I want attached to my professional image.

That was the most interesting part of the article for me. I assumed "Abydos" was just a made up name.
