Doubtful, he has a history of ableism that his base revels in.

I thought of the Futurama episode Godfellas myself.

Yes it's part of an inevitability framework.

It's more of a political pamphlet since this is a Cato Institute publication.

>Since this was a position also held by the majority of California voters, or, to reuse my example above, Barack Obama, I find it hard to give much credence to the idea of it being an example of "abhorrent bigotry".

Well neither qualifier requires a consensus view, so there's no correlation here.

Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Monday September 28, 2026 @02:25PM (#49882271)
I don't disagree that it's a pretty sharp left turn for this (kind of muddled in general) blog post; I was pretty narrowly focused on the ahistorical notion that Eich had recanted in the intervening years.

That being said, I find it odd that you think no one can sincerely hold the position that someone's bigotry was/is abhorrent, however mainstream it was when they were putting money behind it (which is about as direct a piece of evidence that you can get).

Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Monday September 28, 2026 @02:06PM (#49881970)
None of the three authors you are citing here knew him personally, either, and none of them seem to be particularly 'aghast'.

>You can say that you like his work without having to have endless caveats about how you don't agree with a political position he took twenty years ago that *even he no longer believes*.

Not according to the public record.

Is racism/aversion to it a uniquely American phenomenon?

Re:Eiffel Tower employees strike after female staff removed on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:49PM (#49631938)
BAPS denies that they made any such request (let alone a _demand_); seems weird that DW omits any mention of this.

>if you want a silly pic with ur kids, just pay someone on fiver. it will be only slightly more expensive and likely far more exciting for kids as they have to wait for the dopamine hit.

Or, y'know, learn how to draw, or accept that it's not exactly going to be Chuck Jones caliber stuff.

I suspect they're a bot, fwiw.

And if the terrorist group that provides the impetus for the sanction is practically nonexistent, it's entirely sensical?

>They are making and providing tools that enable communication specifically for Far Left groups, some of which are terrorist groups.

As per a government who puts cycling and expressing distaste for inflation in the same camp.

Especially funny because by his own admission, Spector wasn't even a major contributor to the development of Thief.
How do you imagine they get there in the first place?
Re:Why is Everyone in Tech so sad? on Friday August 07, 2026 @11:51AM (#49212317)
Quite a lot of folks who got into tech for the tech are also miserable, because, as the byline rather aptly puts it, a lot of it is pointless. It does not serve a public good, or even a public desire, and 'work for its own sake' is only engaging up to a point.
I quite regularly read weird characterizations of the USSR, but 'feudal dictatorship'?
Luckily, desk workers can never get tired or experience physical or psychological stress, or be subjected to unreasonable demands from leadership; these are just laws of nature.
So paid overtime, vacation, parental and sick leave, and 40 hour work weeks are, in fact, shameless excesses that have made office work worse?

I can't recall when the strongarmed union-busting happened at Basecamp, but it was a few years ago. Funnily enough, he kept patronizing Citations Needed well after.

'high-trust society' is quite often the same, as a sibling demonstrates. These two terms pretty much never appear simultaneously in an argument except as a dogwhistle.
Re:"Can We Make the Villain a White Guy?" on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @09:47AM (#48831935)
I'm significantly more tired of the reactionary whinge machine re: 'progressive storytelling', to be perfectly honest.
They don't have bylines, though, so individual authors could be of different nationalities.
Re:Your brain was never designed for this much bad news on Monday June 22, 2026 @11:35AM (#48631693)
It's not a fact-free handwaving; every last one of those comments is just steelmanning Israel's position without any evidential basis. And if you are so deeply concerned about characterizing them as 'XYZ evil foreign power's propaganda', I wonder why you see no reason to push back on claims like this:

>Iran isn’t negotiating in good faith, and will likely need another round of attacks. America should also flood Iran with small arms for the revolutionaries

What kind of productive discussion do you think this encourages? And given that the intelligence community broadly considers the latter a losing proposition, are we to assume that you think they are all Iranian proxies?

Re:Your brain was never designed for this much bad news on Sunday June 21, 2026 @12:34PM (#48620292)
As opposed to treating fact-free rehashings of Israeli state propaganda as 'non-flattering statements' and decorating such treatments with thought-terminating epithets.
Someone in the Thief community was celebrating the Nightdive remaster announcement because it is apparently getting much harder with each passing year to install and run the Dark Engine games on Windows; meanwhile I've been doing this multiple times a year for about a decade with Lutris.

>Netenyahu evilness

Israel was an apartheid state before Netenyahu became its PM. The BBC wasn't quite as euphemistic about their settler colonial project until the 90s though.

More historically accurate, though, no?
