I was about to make this comment as well. The only way to sideload games on any game console is to essentially "jail break" it as well.

Which automatically voids any and all warranties on the product.

Like it was mentioned above, if you want to reach Playstation's, Nintendo's, or Microsoft Xbox's regular warranty abiding customers, you HAVE to go through their marketplaces and gain their approvals and pay their license fees first

Re:An effort to bring computer science to all US high schools on Wednesday September 05, 2018 @04:51PM (#17921797)
I volunteered with Microsoft's TEALS (https://www.tealsk12.org/) organization last year as a volunteer classroom teacher for an introductory CS Course. The first semester was mostly in this drag and drop language called Snap, similar to Scratch, and the second semester consisted of the basics of Python.

I was worried about teaching at first, I haven't had a lot of experience (none as a matter of fact) but, TEALs had some training classes over the Summer that I attended and they taught me how to be a pretty decent (at least in my opinion haha) teacher.

The school I got placed at was an inner-city school and it was honestly awesome to give these kids a chance to learn about and explore a career path they previously thought well above their ability to reach. I went one day a week for one class in the mornings, I worked with other volunteers each with their own day, so it didn't interfere with my work life at all either.

I didn't learn about programming myself until I hit college so just the fact that these kids are even made aware that this is an actual viable career path is a win in my book.

If you're interested at all in "CS in every high school" mentality and you want to put in some volunteer hours then I think TEALs would be an awesome resource to look into

A: I’d just dive in and place bets know how to learn from my experiences. I wrote about how to do that in my book, which is largely about how to convert mistakes into learned principles that work, and how to save these principles and use them in computers so that your thinking is not constrained by your brain’s capacity to juggle a lot of things at the same time.

There is no better learning than that which comes from experiences and quality reflections on those experiences. It doesn’t matter whether you do it at a hedge fund, or any other place, but I would recommend that you do it around other smart people who help you brainstorm on the best answer.

well, this joke didn't go over well ha.

Re:Someone has entered an AI in a Japanese mayoral race on Friday April 13, 2018 @09:56AM (#16829989)
There's a very popular young adult novel out called Scythe written by Neal Shusterman. In this novel there is a benevolent cloud-based AI in charge of ruling over the whole world named The Thunderhead ( because The Cloud wasn't impressive enough).

It's cool to see part of this fictional world coming to life

We are not Facebook's customers. Their advertisers are. They owe us practically nothing.

to be fair, a lot of smaller sites go down after being posted on hackernews due to the huge uptick in traffic.
Re:A fork on GitHub is no fork on Friday March 16, 2018 @10:06AM (#16600706)
Github is just the end point where the program git pushes your code for storage and viewing.

There are plenty of other alternatives, including ones you can host yourself, the most popular that I've seen being GitLab and BitBucket.

Re:Fixing impostor syndrome in coding interviews on Monday March 12, 2018 @01:46PM (#16569894)
Sometimes its necessary to learn more of a board sense of something. Even if you've used it before.

For instance, we use Mongo DB at my place of work but, we do not take advantage of ALL the features Mongo has to offer at one time. If I were to interview at another company that also uses Mongo it might be to my benefit to dive a little deeper and look for features I may be unfamiliar with on a day to day basis.

This can be applied to all tools and languages.

Ghostery found 39 trackers on that article. The irony is strong today.
> they would be going up without tax subsidies.

They don't even build Walmarts without tax subsidies these days.

that's a good point
Those served an actual purpose though. They weren't just shoved into space just to say, "hey look at what we did". That's the point they're making. Don't pollute space just because you can.

EDIT: typos

They play white noise in my building at work and, your first week you really notice it but, once you get used to it being there you don't notice it all.

Except maybe when something happens and it turns off and then it's so loud that you wish it was on again.

Re:Apple's privacy feature costs ad companies millions on Tuesday January 09, 2018 @11:39AM (#16107401)
This assumes there isn't a flexible solution though. There is more than just the extremes here. If a company isn't innovative or flexible enough to think of a solution then it's their own fault if they go out of business.
Re:Apple's privacy feature costs ad companies millions on Tuesday January 09, 2018 @10:01AM (#16106593)
They can still make money off ad revenue, they'll just have to think of a way to do it without compromising the user's privacy.
