News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Just like my experience with ChatGPT then. Overindulgence with details so I have to tell them to stop to get things done
Re:Frontier Airlines Likely Breached on Sunday November 01, 2026 @02:21PM (#50328764)
Someone found a vulnerability in the system of Hong Kong Airlines that let the user to see the details of another passenger by changing a few characters in the URL. He reported the issue to the airlines. Then he was prosecuted and found guilty for hacking.

Tells you a lot about the attitude of many cooperations about these vulnerabilities.

I just don’t know why we are using a verification that is hard to read and write for humans
Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:04PM (#50310112)
A lot of code is certainly not written careful enough. Plenty examples of plaintext passwords storage in the wild.
Is it even accessible in the UK?
It’s the same for 2026
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:56PM (#50292212)
IPv6 is 16 bytes, the person I replied to gives a 8 bytes scheme
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:57AM (#50288216)
Not enough supply/demand. AWS charge like $0.005/hr per IPv4 address
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:56AM (#50288200)
Not using hex is a plus I guess?
Re:Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:38PM (#50280558)
Regular people don’t even upgrade to Win 10/11 unless they are forced to.
Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:34PM (#50261721)
I do it like how I handle error messages: one at a time. Maybe 2-3 if the work is easy. Often enough to find new directions or uncover new problems and the suggestion list doesn’t work anymore.
Re:Online censorship is crushing indie webcomics on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:49AM (#50231007)
Both left and right are shit these days. Politics tend to attract the worst people, psychopaths who seek for manipulation. This happens to both sides.
Re:No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:39PM (#50226622)
Wait till they realise they are liable for LLM mistakes
Re:Danish Government silently drops plan to dump MS Office on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:18PM (#50226472)
I interviewed at a job with quite a lot of maths to do. I never worked in that industry, but I made a good profolio using Jupyter notebooks so I got an interview. Turns out everything was done in Excel, they asked me a few times how good I was with Excel. It seems they are not impressed with an answer of “Yea, that’s easy, I do my personal budgeting with it”
Re:Why is AI generated language so hard to understand? on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:00PM (#50226312)
Ease of comprehension is not prioritised in training. I doubt frontier labs would spend enough money to train on something that is non-measurable and subjective.
I don’t think it would have any effect at human scale
I have seen way more malice pretending to be just stupid than the actual stupidity
We are in the era of 6 digit CVE now
Re:After automation: Solo founding will be the default on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:12PM (#50187701)
One person + AI setups still need your own expertise. Your job is now supervising the AI agents. You still have to set the direction and catch their mistakes. The better you are at it, the better chance you have.
Re:After automation: Solo founding will be the default on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:07PM (#50187645)
I failed at most things I found because I'm not good at selling. I have kinda accepted this.
Re:EMudhra Intermediate CA Compromise on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @11:25AM (#50182616)
Why would they even do this? A standard random number generator is probably less work
In the UK you basically need to get a politician involved to remove a parking ticket anyway
Re:How employment is changing at Anthropic on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:05AM (#50151960)
We don’t have professional exams for software engineers, nor anyone would want it. But it is still a professional practice.
Re:How employment is changing at Anthropic on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:03AM (#50151952)
So they are the ones who have to ship their own code? I have heard of it since 1960s with COBOL
Re:How employment is changing at Anthropic on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:00AM (#50151930)
I guess boosting hires per recruiter can be a good thing, given the common recruiter is really not smart at all
On the other hand, management grade tends to fail their way up
Re:I Became a Citizen of Japan on Saturday October 17, 2026 @07:01PM (#50135971)
So only a few times in many years, I think most need an NI number only
Re:I Became a Citizen of Japan on Saturday October 17, 2026 @04:50PM (#50135018)
Once you are living in the country for a while, you can pretty much do anything and people don’t care about your resident status at all. For my daily lives in UK I only need my address and driving license. You pretty much have the feeling that you’ll be fine without bothering to do the paperwork, that’s how things work in the last 20-50 years.
Re:Linus Torvalds's first LLM-assisted patch series on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:16PM (#50132970)
He worked long enough on the code base and know what would improve it with AI
Re:Monte-Carlo Simulations on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:52PM (#50125850)
If you are doing combinatorial sampling like estimating pi or doing probabilities with SET, stratification is a great idea
