>A tool that has the sole purpose of offloading cognitive functions

This is a blatant strawman.

Source: you made it up.

A cigarette company is totally unrelated to AI, the single greatest education technology in recent time.

No student is going to use that over the default.

That's not how it works. The chat app requests the link preview and caches it.
Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:19PM (#50312906)
I disagree with several premises of the article. There is not going to be human led investigations of outages. People do not need to train on easy outages to be able to handle hard outages. Even if you wanted to train people on easy outages AI makes it easier than ever to setup up real world like issues to replace the need for real world experience. I also disagree in labeling it deskilling when it is a reallocation of skills to what is actually needed.

>concerning for money-handling firms

The real world is robust. It's okay for money handling code to have bugs. It's not the end of the world and AI will be able to have a lower bug rate than humans.

Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:07PM (#50312226)
The test code is written and checked by AI without humans needing to be the ones looking at it.
Well whatever the next thing after LLMs would be Anthropic would be in the perfect position and have the perfect expertise to train it.
How would he be honorary STEM? Do you consider real life aircraft employees to also be STEM or honorary STEM.
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Friday October 30, 2026 @12:43AM (#50299932)
Practically everything on IPv6 also has a IPv4 address you can use instead. Adding IPv6 just adds more that can go wrong.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:03AM (#50289236)
If I ask my employer if I can start a YouTube channel and then after getting permission I start posting videos that make the company look bad, and showing how awesome competitor products were I wouldn't be surprised if I got fired. I wouldn't be fired for the account but what I did with it.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:44AM (#50288932)
What would be illegal about firing an employee who you think is causing your company to get a bad image?

You are free to give any suggestion that you want.
Re:Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:26PM (#50261610)
Saying there is no collaboration is like saying multiple people on a software project can't collaborate with Claude Code because it's really just Claude writing the code.
Re:Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:57AM (#50260369)
So is Wikipedia, but with grokipedia you can at least correct it even if there is not a journalist pointing out the obvious.
Re:AI is ruining haunted houses on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:47AM (#50258308)
People provide other images for the AI to integrate into the flyer. It doesn't make up everything.
Re:AI is ruining haunted houses on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:46AM (#50258297)
For example if a shop is having an Independence Day sale, just saying that it's happening with text is not very attractive.
Re:Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:44AM (#50258269)
Grokipedia serves as an existence proof that it is possible.
Re:AI is ruining haunted houses on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:28AM (#50256993)
No, it means the promotion would suck and I wouldn't be interested in events that I would be interested in if marketed to me correctly.
Re:AI is ruining haunted houses on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:22AM (#50256939)
AI art has made attractive graphic design available to the masses. I don't get the hatred for them since they both look good and wouldn't exist without AI.
>and it doesn’t report you to the police when it suspects you did something illegal

This is an alignment issue. OpenClaw with a local LLM with an email you setup for it could contact the police.

>I don't get to hear that it's not a doctor and I should call 911.

Local models can do this and with tool use they can even call emergency services for you on your behalf.

Have you considered that they are making the the world better and your process of measuring is flawed.
Re:Attention Is Not What You Need on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:59PM (#50238176)
Scale is all you need.

That's why you see other attention free large language models work. But in a world with constraints on time and compute the architecture does matter because scaling does have a cost (which is dropping)

Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:16PM (#50237389)
ASLR protects against exploits already too.
We need AI powered FOIA request responses. All of these manual process are prone to abuse.
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @06:13PM (#50236544)
>If you 10x thay development process then you also have to do the same with the business processes.

Or the extra time can be used towards polishing the software.

Re:I Don't Understand Quantum Physics (2018) on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:43AM (#50219982)
Why can AI generate pictures of waterfalls if it has never lived on Earth?
It sounds exactly how netcafes operate where the public can lease a computer and play games for a few hours. I don't think it's weird they have to get special licenses just like netcafes do.
