Feel like “translating the proof into your end product” is a bit of a “draw the rest of the owl”
No WAY I have wanted this exact thing all for years!!! I am so stoked to try this out later. This is so sick.

Got the test flight version installed no problem!

> This is why "is my testing comprehensive?" is actually an open-ended problem that, in the limit, is just as hard as formal verification.

Well said! I learned about PBT in the first place because I watched a talk where the speaker referenced the story of foundationDB. Super interesting stuff. If anybody wants a link I can dig it up

What do people think of property based testing? I’ve set up a few property based tests and it feels almost like formal verification.

I know it’s not the same thing, but PBT’s can catch all sorts of absolutely crazy bugs that I never would think to check for. Stateful stuff, cross-service stuff. My only gripe with PBTs has always been the tedious setup, but LLMs solve that.

I haven’t seen much discussion around PBTs lately, but you get a ton of bang for your buck in the LLM age

Been sayin this for years. Everybody in the world world: just BE COOL. Solves like every internet problem at once.
Re:My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:14AM (#50315909)
I was 10 when it came out. I remember the hype being so crazy. It’s all anybody talked about at school. Wii was going to bring us into the future and make all of our dreams come true.

It was totally awesome. But the advertised promise of motion controls didn’t really land until Wii motion+ controllers. When I played skyward sword I thought “ok THIS looks like the ads”

Re:The $6.3B Binance Hack Was Pulled Off in Just 20 Minutes on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:04AM (#50315829)
They passed 6 billion through a tumbler service?? Like what bitcoin fog used to do, back in the day? You’d think a tumbler service would just exit scam with that kinda money.

Also I thought tumblers didn’t work anymore? Didn’t they figure out how to trace btc anyway?

Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:24PM (#50293661)
That’s wild. It’s possible that Google shows me relevant ads. But if it’s formatted anything like a sponsored result, I think my eyes just skip past it. Like after so many years I just have ad block built in to my retinas.

I wonder if one was actually useful, maybe I’d notice it?

Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @07:28AM (#50257529)
Or, you don’t even realize it’s not really what you wanted. Once you have a nicely polished product, it’s hard to compare it to the fuzzy idea that you had in the first place.

I feel like going slower gives you time to let the details form the solution. You think “hm maybe that doesn’t make as much sense as I thought, maybe there’s a better way to frame the issue…”. If you don’t let a problem really soak in, you don’t get the “hammock driven development” that Rich Hickey talks about.

Of course some problems don’t need to soak in. A lot of problems just need code to be cranked out. I love slopping together a monster script that solves exactly one problem perfectly

What a crazy and fun idea. Good Wikipedia article. Everything in the Feynman cinematic universe is awesome
I am also not totally stoked about this whole LLM thing. But it's still hard for me to imagine all of the programming jobs going away. Even with all of the advancements they've made, I really cannot imagine a non-programmer doing my job.

Even though opus 5.5 is like a goddamn genius, and I don't really even feel like I need to check the code, I still absolutely could not imagine a PM taking over most of my tasks. Not even close

Re:The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978) on Friday October 23, 2026 @03:50AM (#50205711)
Thank you for articulating this!! This idea has been rolling around for a while but I haven't been able to put it into words.

I think "I'm working in a higher level of abstraction" is easier for some devs to say than "I asked somebody else to do the thinking and the work." I don't think there's anything wrong with asking an LLM to do the work. But pasting jira tickets into claude is not abstraction lmao.

I guess arguments on either side of this can get difficult for a reason that another commenter already mentioned: you can use LLMs on a wide spectrum of granularity. You can one-shot a whole project, or you can tell it to rename some vars in a single file. I guess there are uses that are probably closer to programming. But if you're not even looking at the code, I'd say that's closer to somebody else doing the work

Re:The Future of CSS on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:19AM (#50178510)
I don’t disagree with you and I lurve frameworks. Yes, I love react. It is so awesome.

But it is SO nice to not have any build step. All of my new projects start as a single babashka script now. You got html templating, throw in a stylesheet. Slap a datastar script tag in there for everything else. It’s just easy peasy.

A while ago (years ago?) I read something about how carbon capture is so energy intensive that it doesn’t really help much. Is that still true?

I guess if you powered it with green energy, that’d be a net positive?

Re:Grieving the Loss of Details on Saturday October 10, 2026 @05:02PM (#50037143)
I agree with many perspectives in this thread. I empathize with OP. I’m scared about the future of my job and already feel it less fulfilling, despite being more productive than ever.

But I have one singular counterexample to most scary narratives and essays about LLMs writing software, which is my coworker who hardly uses LLMs at all. At least, he hardly uses them compared to me. He still writes most of his code by hand. He still greps around the codebase without claude code. Like he’s definitely using claude code, but only for like one-off specific tasks.

He’s a totally average developer, like everybody else on my team (including me). But he’s clearly more helpful than the rest of us. When people from other teams have questions about how something works, he’s always the first to respond. He’s always the one providing useful context in planning calls. He catches stuff in code review that I didn’t catch, and claude/copilot didn’t catch.

I think I’ve leaned too far into AI, partly because I’m a lazybones and am kind of burned out already. But there’s a stark contrast between me and my coworker that there didn’t used to be. I think the context rot is really setting in, and getting worse. So I think there’s still value in caring about the details

Re:GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @05:17PM (#49900733)
Has it been exponential this whole time? I feel like GPT-4 was pretty dang good. Maybe it’s rose tinted glasses cause I could finally have a bot write my dockerfiles and bash scripts, which knocked my socks off
There’s so much in the public discourse like “omg what can possibly be done about these scenarios? AI has hacked huggingface!!”

No, openAi hacked huggingface.

If my claude code hacked huggingface, because of instructions I gave it, would I be totally free of consequences because “AI did it”?

I’m almost convinced openAI used such a crappy sandbox because they wanted it to “escape”. It plays into their two most important narratives: LLMs are genius gods that are worth lots and lots of money, and they’re scary enough that open weight Chinese models should be regulated.

Re:Grim Fandango Puzzle Document (1996) [pdf] on Monday September 21, 2026 @10:09AM (#49787518)
The puzzles are so bad. Like how in the world is somebody supposed to think of that stuff. It’s total nonsense lmao. Still love the game, but a walkthrough guide is mandatory. Might even start a new game this weekend
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026) on Monday September 14, 2026 @07:03PM (#49705454)
If you think about and use AI all the time, you’ll inevitably think of AI projects. Like that website indiehackers is mostly filled with ideas that market to other indiehackers

I tried installing it last year so I could something specific. I forget what it was.

Didn’t follow anybody or provide any interests. Open it up for the first time, and saw a bunch of posts by Elon musk.

Re:Google no longer provides direct URLs in search results on Saturday September 12, 2026 @03:26AM (#49669857)
I’m not fawning over it but it’s

- usually better than Google

- has actually useful features (smush BS listicle articles together, weight/block sites)

- if you don’t use any searches that month, they’ll just straight up refund the month subscription automatically

- doesn’t annoy me constantly
