Re:Ask HN: How to Be Alone? on Sunday March 08, 2026 @08:41PM (#47303389)
If you struggle being alone - you're not meant to be alone. It's not everyone's cup of tea
can't they all be automated away? and who needs guards 100m underwater? shouldn't a well built submarine be safer than an underground bunker?
Funny enough, on a local glassdoor clone the guys who failed technical interview discussed exactly this possibility precisely because the post was open for so long:)
they build bunkers and yachts, they never build long endurance submarines. why is that?
I worked for a company that kept one job posting open for more than 4 years. They've used it to hire more than 100 people, but unless you worked there you wouldn't know.
It is a very good thing for political discussions. I don't see how it would benefit HN.

could you please name them?
It's not "why do you need writing?", it's "how do you discover writing?". Once it's discovered the new purposes will appear pronto.

for low traffic websites cloudfront + lambda + dynamodb is free

Re:The Death of the Minivan on Thursday October 03, 2024 @03:27AM (#41728123)
high curbs? is it even legal?
Re:The Death of the Minivan on Wednesday October 02, 2024 @04:41AM (#41718480)
Beg my pardon but what high ground clearance is needed for?

never heard of that, thank you

Never heard of it, thank you very much!

No exessive caps.

No huge letters.

No colored background behind certain text lines.

No bright colors everywhere.

Nothing is blinking, nothing is moving.

This guy is obviously completely sane, just unorthodox.

Re:Synfig Studio – Open-Source 2D Animation Software on Saturday September 28, 2024 @01:11PM (#41681559)
on a related note - is there something like gltf but for 2d vector animation?
Re:Why the U.S. can't build icebreaking ships on Friday September 27, 2024 @06:09AM (#41668386)
Kind of pointless comparing Russian icebreaker number to anyone elses'. Russia is basically a huge pile of snow next to a huge floating pile of ice (geographically, not population-wise, but still). Nobody has even 10% of motivation for building icebreakers that Russia has.
Re:I Am Tired of AI on Friday September 27, 2024 @05:58AM (#41668292)
In Soviet planet Earth AI gets tired of you. That's what I expect future to be like, anyways
Incredible! Before I've seen it I would never have guessed that something like that could be so good!
Re:Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing on Thursday July 11, 2024 @02:04AM (#40934037)
You can actually do music/audio programming in a browser. It has some rough edges but it works.
>they often have a stack of microwaves

you mean sometimes they don't?

and in some countries they never have them?

It is sad that ISS exists at all. After the Mir the world should have gone rotating station route - the next logical step. Instead we have wasted so many resources on something that has already been done before
Re:The Point of the Banach Tarski Theorem on Wednesday June 26, 2024 @08:02PM (#40805929)
It's very neat but the gist is that one infinity equals two infinities - infinities are weird. While technically it's cool does it really add anything to our understanding?
Re:What UI density means and how to design for it on Wednesday May 22, 2024 @01:52PM (#40443908)

"Mobile first"

p.s. oops, sorry, not the first comment of this kind. well, it's just obvious

Southern Sweden! If sun poses a risk there...
Isn't imagination enough?
Do they come along with lifelong sentences as opposed to artificial diamonds that are legal?
Not to mention that a good quality deep fakes (once legalized) will completely destroy any economic incentive for real CP production.

That's not the first time I hear that. Still can't figure out why it was true.

Re:The Ukraine war is ultimately about Poland on Tuesday February 13, 2024 @06:36AM (#39356742)
>global superpower with immense economic, political and military power

I seen it from inside - you've bought into a Potemkin's village. When it was a "global superpower" (on paper) it was a much, much worse country by any measure.

>You're nation is a political pariah with fleeting influence even among former ussr members.

When the war has started that's exactly where I moved to. Turns out you're very wrong about it (didn't know it myself)
