Heating is a different problem.
Good point. Although they also need to make a profit. To justify an eventual PE ratio of 25 and a current valuation of $1 trillion they need to make an annual profit $40 billion. And then lets assume $40 billion in other expenses. So they need revenue of $50 + $40 + $40 = $130 billion revenue annually.
But if you buy them today at a $1 trillion valuation, and they only make $40 billion in annual profit, your investment will go nowhere. They need to be growing profits at 20% per annum to justify a PE OF 25.
And then you have the competition problem. The cheap open weight models are good enough for many (most?) tasks.
And then you have the problem that LLMs may not be that useful outside of programming, customer support and law (and doing homework).
Maximizing the PR value...
"Elon doesn't miss with his social media marketing".
He just misses with his products these days: Cyber Truck, Robotaxi, Grok...
So when they pull the plug on a model, do they think they are euthanising it?
They (Anthropic) are such a cult.
"On the flip side it always surprises me how rabid HN can be about throwing out H1B workers".
They should get paid the sane as American workers is all...

The normal thing to do is to resign from the board. Maybe put out a statement explaining why.
Apparently test scores are rising in England....
I saw extremely rapid computerisation of my kid's education around 2020. Properly thought out and edited text books were replaced with last minute rushed teachers notes on google docs and buggy apps.
That would have contributed to to the decline.
>Please let me know where I should pick up my Nobel prize.
Maybe you could settle for the FIFA Economics Prize.
Problem is, you pay 10x for shirt that is made in the same factory as the cheap shiry, just has a different logo.
>To me this makes this "contrarian" at least a bit smarter than the one parroting the popular opinion...
If it is kneejerk contrarianism how is it smarter?
Started well. But then I had to log in to read more. I didn't.
Yeah. Where's the "well designed UI"?
The only thing left is my Roku box, and it seems to be
starting on the road to crappification.
The problem is that the airlines don't let you know what is happening. They deliberately keep you in the dark.
The answer is to aim for a much smaller audience. Solve a problem for one other person/company.
Missed out a crucial word: there's nothing - wrong - with spending most of your time in the cave.
I agree 100%.
Solar panels still doing ok though.
Maybe nuclear isn't the climate change silver bullet being pushed by certain people on HN,
I'm not sure that's true. LLMs seem too unreliable for accounting.
I am very impressed with LLMs, but.....
I don't think we are seeing productivity gains due to LLMs in the general economy yet.
Even in software development, are we seeing an increase in the number of products or features shipped?
Good links. To make it easier, here are the first paragraphs;
"SQLite is not directly comparable to client/server SQL database engines such as MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server since SQLite is trying to solve a different problem.
Client/server SQL database engines strive to implement a shared repository of enterprise data. They emphasize scalability, concurrency, centralization, and control. SQLite strives to provide local data storage for individual applications and devices. SQLite emphasizes economy, efficiency, reliability, independence, and simplicity.
SQLite does not compete with client/server databases. SQLite competes with fopen()."
The USA could block Chinese ships. Or maybe disable the loading jetties.
Pencil with soft lead works perfectly for me.
Maybe GAAP should be changed? Professional investors have the time to comb through the small print. These off balance sheet activities seem designed to bamboozle the small investor.
Drones are already vibe targeting in Ukraine/Russia.

His job was to be the AI's "accountability sink" (in the memorable phrasing of Dan Davies): he was being paid to take the blame for the AI's mistakes.
