Re:Like the macOS Dock but for macOS System 7 on Wednesday May 03, 2023 @06:43PM (#35808814)
I assumed the Mac OS X Dock was just an evolution of the NeXTSTEP Dock?
Re:SBF Arrested by Bahamian Authorities on Monday December 12, 2022 @09:41PM (#33964023)
Would need to have more information before coming to such a conclusion, such as the proportion of crimes committed by men vs women, the types of crimes committed by men vs women, etc.
Re:SAT score distributions in Michigan on Thursday October 06, 2022 @08:55PM (#33116121)
Yeah I mean we just had a whole college admissions scandal a few years back with rich parents trying to get their not-so-smart kids into elite colleges.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character.
San Francisco, believe it or not, is still a great place to live, despite all of our issues.
Right? Elon was pretty much insinuating, before the deal, that he thought the bot problem on twitter was much bigger than what Twitter officially stated. And now he's trying to get out of the deal by claiming that the bot problem on twitter was much bigger than what Twitter officially stated.
Car2Go pulled out of Minneapolis-St. Paul because the state classified them as rental cars and therefore charged really high rental tax rates intended for gouging travelers that rent cars at the airport.
Re:iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max on Tuesday September 14, 2021 @03:33PM (#28529862)
Now I wonder if the iPhone 4 had reduced sales in China/Asian countries.

I also remember the huge uproar when Apple switched from the 30-pin connector to the lightning connector.
Re:Apple Watch Series 7 on Tuesday September 14, 2021 @03:27PM (#28529772)
For me, I love it. It's even more useful when using Apple Maps' directions for walking and not having to pull the phone out of my pocket.
Re:Apple Watch Series 7 on Tuesday September 14, 2021 @03:24PM (#28529731)
What kind of features do the cellular version of the watch not have that you would need to be truly standalone? It gets pretty close for me... I can take calls, view and respond to texts, listen to music, track my workouts, etc. all without carrying my iPhone. While still requiring the watch to be connected to the iPhone for system updates, installing apps, etc. is not ideal, that doesn't preclude somebody from using the watch without also carrying an iPhone at all times.

Me too. Youtube even put it in my recommended section.
Re:Trump threatens to 'close' down social media platforms on Wednesday May 27, 2020 @06:25PM (#23330867)
They don't have to because they would've banned and will continue to ban anyone else who's tweeted the type of stuff that Trump's tweeted. They've only gotten into this situation because they've refused to ban or suspend Trump's account.
Re:Twitter tags Trump tweet with fact-checking warning on Tuesday May 26, 2020 @08:04PM (#23317951)
Elections are run by the states, not by the Federal government. If Washington, the 13th most populous state can conduct elections purely via mail-in ballots, why not any other state?
Re:Twitter tags Trump tweet with fact-checking warning on Tuesday May 26, 2020 @08:02PM (#23317940)
You may be thinking of provisional ballots.
Re:California wants to tax companies for executive pay ratio on Saturday January 18, 2020 @12:09AM (#22082432)
I believe the city budget also includes the budget to operate SFO.

I believe he did do some technical work as a teenager, IIRC from the biographies of him that I've read. I don't know if that means he was an engineer, but he does have some technical work experience.
Re:Share Now, formerly Car2Go, is leaving North America on Wednesday December 18, 2019 @03:45PM (#21829232)
They pulled out of Minneapolis a few years ago in part because the state wanted to charge them the state rental car tax of something like 14%.
Re:Over 100 PBS local stations start streaming on YouTube TV on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @07:21PM (#21820559)
As far as I am aware, having Viacom channels is the exception rather than the rule for streaming cable providers. Along with Youtube TV, Hulu TV, Playstation Vue, and Fubo TV also do not carry Viacom channels.
Re:Keeping Top AI Talent in the United States [pdf] on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @05:43PM (#21819766)
If my experience from high school is still relevant, showing interest in much of anything besides the opposite sex, drugs, and music was considered uncool and being a tryhard.
See, e.g., Caterpillar moving their global HQ from Peoria to the Chicago area.
I grew up in C-U and still dearly miss the area. Would definitely move back to the right job.
I feel like these places outside of Silicon Valley would run into many of the same problems if a bunch of high paying tech jobs were dropped into these places, such as steep increases in housing prices (although still cheaper than the SF Bay Area) and resistance of current residents to change/new housing. You take a look at places receiving an influx of new well-paid residents, like Boise, and you can see that these problems are also cropping up there.

I believe opticians are the people that measure your PD adjust frames.
Re:Talent May Be Shifting Away from Superstar Cities: Study on Tuesday November 19, 2019 @06:32PM (#21579543)
Still much easier to get around SF w/o a car than LA (obviously with the caveat of LA being much larger and building their metro system at a rapid pace).
Mostly people who moved into what was a sleepy suburb 30 years ago wanting it to remain a sleepy suburb.
Re:Downward Mobility (1982) on Monday July 29, 2019 @08:53PM (#20561104)
I mean besides issues like climate or geography I think cities like Chicago, Minneapolis or even college towns like Madison or Ann Arbor certainly offer a lot more than "a grey/beige house in a suburb" or "strip malls and big box stores." This is from someone who's lived in these places in the midwest as well as in San Francisco.
