well for one I think you're wrong. competition is cancer. also in sport. we sohuld be collaborating, not competing. that's how human being advance.
Many years ago, when I was a student, I suddenly developed a terrible toothache. I’d recently moved from Italy to the UK so didn't have a dentist yet, so I called the NHS for help. They arranged an emergency appointment at a local clinic that same day—a Sunday. I was very impressed!
The clinic was on one of those slightly dodgy-looking industrial estates. To get inside, I had to walk through a plastic strip curtain, which made it feel more like a butcher’s shop than a dental practice. Plastic chairs. Dirty floors. Dodgy peeps waiting. Still, I was grateful to be seen.
I waited my turn, then spent about half an hour in the chair while a man drilled away at what turned out to be a cavity. He put in a filling, and afterwards I asked what I should do next.
“Well,” he said, “I don’t know how long that filling will last. A week, a month, a year—who knows?”
Then, he recommended that I go and see a dentist.
How do you identify them and choose what to invest in? I guess you do not really have access to their technical specifics or sales volumes.
I have a hard time to divert “rm” to “trash” too
also when I remember to put by phone away not to get distracted, then the 2FA requires me to go fetch it...
What do you mean “unfortunately”? What’s the hate for China I don’t understand
British have no concept of unionisation and avoid conflict at all cost. Their employer tells them they must go back to five days to the office? They all obediently do it
I mean alcohol is the worst drug: it’s highly addictive, toxic to the body, one of the few drugs with potentially fatal withdrawal, and a major driver of violence, accidents, and family breakdown. Unlike most drugs, it seriously harms people beyond the user — and because it’s legal, cheap, and socially normalised, its damage happens on a massive scale.
Sooooo yes happy with pubs closures.
agreed, relationships are built when all parties put effort.
It’s purely luck driving success. The book _thinking fast and slow_ illustrates it quite eloquently. Real geniuses are rare and even then they do not necessary become successful
Precisely my problem. I only apply if I know I’m a good fit and have the required experience. I spent countless hours manually adjusting my resume and writing cover letter out of my heart. Just got the usual cold rejection from a no-reply address. I know do the same with ChatGPT. I also get rejections, but at least I waste little time and can therefore submit many more applications - so my odds are higher
I tried that too e.g. messaging talent recruiter managers on LinkedIn - never got a reply or “accepted” to start chatting
amazing! This was in my todo list since, like, forever aha!
I’d recommend to read the reflective practitioner, by Donald Schön
thanks, I'll try! I don't have kids so didn't really think of this
I'd agree until few months ago, but now my wife's dad lucidity is degrading pretty quickly.
Until few years ago he was a proficient digital photographer with advanced Photoshop knowledge. He was definitely tech literate and also have used Apple gears its infancy (the first guy in town to own an iPhone).
But now he forgets his passcode, or the fact that he can just use his thumb to unlock the phone. He keeps deleting his bank app and then goes to the nearby computer store shop to get it back. He also saved a scammer number claiming to be his daughter with a new phone (well, actually asked a friend to save it because he forgot how to do it).
Because we live abroad it's quite hard to check on him and his device to make sure he's safe and have been wondering myself how to best deal with the situation.
Where’s the hold? If we reached a pint where we are as much as productive with only 2 days so be it
Labour tried in the UK and nobody voted for them lol
I yet have to find a non-overhyped and eventually disappointing event in the UK, to be honest. The only thing you can be certain of, is that you’ll pay a lot.
As Italian I totally confirm and relate :)
I’m curious to understand your perspective:m as to why a business that focus on the user may expose to risk? Doesn’t meeting user needs equals to making users happy which in turn equals to making more money?
Was it the green movement opposing nuclear power or fossil fuel companies?
I guess it’s more to be able to access the local are stack / jellyfin from everywhere?
Why do people read contemporary books is something I can’t really get my head around. There’re so many classics to keep people busy for life - and are 100% guaranteed to be insightful and pleasurable.
Quite timely, I’m visiting Prague right now and this morning I saw the famous window at the old royal palace! Pretty high, though apparently those defenestred in 1618 survived the 70 metres fall
