+1 for Dr Chuck! Echo your sentiments exactly.
Had I taken this course when I was 18, I surely would have gone for a CS degree.
People have been saying this for years. However, none of the other players have built a compelling product with widespread appeal or adoption. The E-Tron? iPace? Taycan? All have been more or less dead on arrival from an adoption and sales standpoint.
Honda announced recently that they will be focusing on hybrid technology, not full electric. Toyota is backing their Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology. GM has the Bolt, a single full-electric offering. The Model 3 doesn't really have any meaningful competition at the moment IMO. Tesla has forced the industry to change and from where I'm standing no competing product has managed to holistically match the value proposition Tesla brings.
I recently bought a camera lens from Amazon. It was listed as new, but when I received it, the lens caps for both the front and back were missing, the packaging was dirty, and so was the lens. It was obviously not new.
When I started speaking with customer support, I told them that the manufacturer had listed the lens caps as included accessories on the item's listing. The support agent told me that I didn't buy it from the manufacturer, I bought it from Amazon, so there was no guarantee for everything being included. They then went further and advised me that they personally only buy items like this from a retail store for this reason. I was flabbergasted that Amazon's own support team was telling me not to shop on Amazon.
This was one of the worst experiences I had ever had on Amazon, I returned the item and purchased it for a premium from B&H.
On top of that, Oracle still makes hardware. I don't think they can be blamed for stagnating interest in that area.
After taxes 115k is more like 5-6k a month, depending on how much you’re putting into retirement accounts, healthcare, etc.
I just got a 2018 BMW 2 series and it's the best system I've personally used outside of a Tesla. It has a mobile connection so it can find POIs very quickly. It's surprised me many times when I've asked it to navigate somewhere.
I'm sure the recent crop of Audis and Mercedes are the same. The German brands seem to be finally getting on the voice assistant train with a "Hey Mercedes" or "Hey BMW" cue.
Sun had the hardware that Larry wanted for his engineered systems. Prior to that there was an announced partnership with HP for that.
The Google lawsuit came later. Remember the purchase was in 2009, when Android was still in its early days in terms of adoption and market share.
Came here to post this. Now I know where they got their inspiration! Though, ironically enough, I always got the vibe that that city from the first game was more like Singapore.
The Volt has something called "maintenance mode", which starts the engine about every 4-6 weeks, and does a process a little more involved every few months or so to burn gas that would go bad.
His post says you can have private shares or accept the buyout at $420
Not sure where exactly they're "so far ahead".
Cameras? Google is on par if not better with the Pixel.
Screens? Samsung.
The only area where I could conceivably say Apple is destroying the competition is the A11 chip.
As an overall package though, I'd say the other major players (Samsung, Google) are on par with Apple for phones.
As a Solutions Engineer, we always want to conduct a "discovery" session so we can tailor a demo to your context. Otherwise we don't know what is interesting to you and we are effectively throwing darts blindly hoping to hit close to what matters.
Well to Epic, their games are usually a showcase of their engine. It makes sense to open source their assets.
It also helps that Fortnite is a massive success.
They have an ad-block gate
My work laptop is a 2017 15" MBP. I was able to get a 4k external monitor and it definitely felt sluggish. That's when I realized the $70 multiport dongle that apple sells cannot do 4k at 60hz, and so I was seeing 4k 30hz. Had to get a dedicated Displayport to USB-C cable and now it seems to be fine.
I haven't had too many issues with performance. Few crashes here and there. The keyboard is more of an issue for me when dust gets under the keys. I don't mind the giant trackpad as I feel it gets palm rejection right most of the time.
By far the worst part of this computer is the touchbar. It's useless. I can't fathom what Apple was thinking making this required for all higher end Macbooks. The only thing I use it for is the volume slider, and occasionally buffering songs on Spotify. Other than that the ESC key is horrendous and it has no utility for me over standard keyboard hotkeys/fn buttons.
I ended up looking it up after I posted, and you're right! Plans also include going all the way to the Santa Clara Caltrain station, surprisingly. Maybe by 2030.
Yes, as someone who commutes to SF from the South Bay, it's depressing how our public transport compares to other major cities.
BART needs to just go around the Bay Area entirely in a loop, or Caltrain needs to become more efficient. Hopefully electrification will help in this regard.
I'm 26, and I just bought a 2 bed 1 bath 850 sqft condo in Santa Clara for 570k.
My payments are insane, basically 4k a month. I'm able to get by because my wife works too so we aren't entirely living hand to mouth.
Since I bought in June, an identical condo in the same complex sold for around 600k.
It really burns when you consider that even in Sacramento you could probably get a full sized single-family home for what I paid...just at the cost of being further away from work.
I've been living in the Bay Area since I was 7, and I've almost been priced out of it. Does not feel good.
The Type-R has universal praise.
I had no warranty and they gave me a replacement 6P for free despite being OUT of warranty.
I heard others were given Pixel XLs. I guess mileage really can vary.
South San Jose (Evergreen) and the East Bay would be within your reach most likely.
I had a 6p and ditched it for the S8+. Never looked back, it's a night and day difference.
Google/Huawei should be ashamed for the 6p.
Then why are they still using Lightning instead of USB-C, when that's all they have on their new Macbooks?
There's no trading windows for insiders?
You can only sell once a quarter though!
I'm a Solutions Engineer and whenever I have to get on a sales call or demo at my desk it's a disaster - it's simply far too loud and too much background noise is heard on the call.
This is just one more complaint in a long-list that I have with this arrangement. Makes me miss my cube!
I haven't gone quite so far as to ditch my smartphone yet, but I now leave it on silent, no vibrations or LED notifications or anything. Whenever I check my phone maybe once an hour at work I see anything that requires my attention, otherwise I put it away. It's made me more sane, but I've often thought about ditching it entirely. It's sad that I feel like I might not be able to function entirely without it.
What happens if SpaceX wants to do business with a foreign government? Is that permitted?
Of course, that would presume that a foreign entity would trust a US company for sensitive payloads in the first place, but just a thought I had as corporations become multi-national, global entities.
