Re:Top researchers leave USA for the Netherlands (in Dutch)
on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @08:05AM (#48816582)
This title is such clickbait. All the article talks about is a Dutch fund created to recruit scientists and they have successfully recruited them. At 1 million euros per head.

How is that their problem? That is an issue between you and the government.
Re:AV1 – Now Powering 30% of Netflix Streaming
on Thursday December 04, 2025 @11:46PM (#46156926)
It hasn't really changed much in the mastering process, they still are doing the same old compression. Maybe not the to the same extremes, but dynamic range is still usually terrible. They do it a a higher LUFS target than the streaming platforms normalize to because each streaming platform has a different limit and could change it at any time, so better to be on the safe side. Also the fact that majority of music listening doesn't happen on good speakers/environment.
Re:Trump says US has bombed Fordo nuclear plant in attack on Iran
on Sunday June 22, 2025 @12:03AM (#44343473)
I am not sure how its only a political decision when they don't have control of their own airspace. How exactly do they rebuild when as soon as they start they get bombed. I think its more accurate to say it WAS a political decision. They had the capability but did not pursue it due to the fallout of doing so. The question its do they still retain the capability and will they ever be allowed to reclaim that capability if they lost it.

Same here. Whatever I do could not be defined as traditional touch typing but it kind of works. I definitely do not look at the keyboard at all but my fingers kind of just hover over the keyboard instead of resting on the home row.

They don't actually have any jurisdiction in this case. Launches from Vandendberg are from a military base and while they do try to work with the California commission they ultimately are the ones that decide what does and does not get launched.

That is projections for this year only with a target closer to 10 billion revenue next year.

Could just be differential/rtk GPS. You can get incredible precision with that.

Just want to add another comment in here that there is no manual termination, they are using a fully automatic flight termination system.

While you maybe be right, I just want to note that SpaceX isn't just expanding factory footprint at Boca Chica. They will be manufacturing Starship in Florida as well and have already started expanding there too.

Why is there so much misinformation around this. None of what you said is true.

Completely, wrong. That is the entire reason why the source is available in Unreal. To allow you to modify it and make games.
Re:TSMC, Bosch, Infineon, and NXP to build fab in Germany

Not sure how the state population is relevant, the vast majority of people living in Arizona live in the Phoenix metropolitan area which is where these new fabs are being built. The population size for that area is also around 5 million.

The hard part for people is not obtaining a copy of the media which DRM is "supposed" to prevent. The hard part is setting up the multiple services that makes all this convenient with slick interfaces that people are used to similar to Netflix. That would still require just as much effort with or without DRM.

Re:Discord’s username change is causing discord
on Sunday May 07, 2023 @01:29AM (#35848217)
None of this should be an issue anyway, no one has any trouble linking discord server invites. Add the ability to easily link your user profile. Or even better, friend invites. Discord already has single use invites for servers. I doubt this change has anything to do with friend invites, they want to start adding features of other social media networks instead of just being a chat platform.

I think they are actually below the $2M mark already and the actual goal is to get to 250k per engine (At least for non gimbal sea-level engines).

It doesn't remain to be seen. SpaceX has done this already with the Falcon rocket.

Re:Twitter Suspends PG's Account
on Sunday December 18, 2022 @06:02PM (#34045132)
Of course it is, because these types of policies don't really work. It doesn't change the fact that this policy was created for this exact scenario.
Re:Twitter Suspends PG's Account
on Sunday December 18, 2022 @05:46PM (#34044829)
This absolutely was not casually sharing a link that happened to be on another platform. It was an announcement about quitting twitter and an advertisement on where he could be found on a competing platform.
It is straight up the EXACT scenario that the policy was put in place for.
Re:Paul Graham is leaving Twitter

Except for the fact it isn't really collapsing. A couple people throwing a fit and saying they are leaving doesn't change the majority.

I think it is gone again, but after reading the article you linked it makes sense why it is coming and going.
"Users are able to vote on whether the fact-checks are helpful or not. They can appear or disappear based on how many people found them to be helpful, Twitter's Vice President of Product Keith Coleman said Friday."
Re:Twitter layoffs gutted election information teams days before midterms

Twitter can delete the tweets themselves, that whole policy is a farce and is nothing but trying to extract a coercive confession.
