Now how long until Anthropic forbids weight space editing too?
Yeah I feel like the results could be stated more clearly. At any rate this doesn't seem to associate risk with any chosen behavior.
I suspect we are approaching a world where this makes sense to do annually. Opus 5.5 is good enough to improve on most codebases, and Opus 7 will no doubt be good enough to improve on that.
1) Youth expect all screens to be touch. They are learning how to use computers in school on touchscreen Chromebooks. Apple knows they must adapt to user expectation.
2) AI is forcing UI evolution that is hard to anticipate, but I suspect will be served well by having more kinds of inputs available in advance.
Kids expect all screens to be touch ready. Chromebooks they learn on in schools are touchscreen. It will be a competitive requirement before long, I think.
I imagine there is immense pressure to announce taking the #1 spot while they still have it. It's probably better than releasing a model that hasn't been properly vetted, but I agree it's annoying.
I'm used to AI agents doing what I tell them to do. Gonna be rough the first time I realize one has direct authority over me...
Game industry is still struggling to find a way to incorporate regular LLMs without suffering catastrophic edge cases. A long way to go before these can do more than fancy tech demo, I think.
Still not the bottleneck.
The install base is worth way more than the software
At best all we can do is make knowledge work cheaper right now. But knowledge work was never the bottleneck behind energy prices, food production, transportation, cargo, etc.
I have been pondering whether I am a fool to continue to go it as an employee in the age of AI.
Hacker News has also served as the ticketing system for more than one angry blogger who needed to get attention from the right engineers
These "Pareto frontier" performance vs price graphs have become very popular and I find them mostly uninformative. Pricing is subjective. You chose the position on the X axis, and which measures to use on the Y Axis.
You are getting downvoted but I have to believe this is at least what some of the executives are thinking, even if it proves to be a complete illusion.
AI investment is also money not spent on salaries. LLM ROI is hotly debated, but it's no secret that companies are diverting money to it regardless.
One big thing: Opus is one of the few models that you can mostly trust not to get prompt hijacked. This can make all the difference between trusted in the office vs. not.
Sorry but do you have a reputable source on that? This feels more like leaning into paranoia that everything is AI generated.
I think they look distinctly non AI generated. Particularly the use of dash - instead of emdash usually means a keyboard is being used.
They give one example but yeah otherwise this feels very "trust me bro" and AI written
> Available via Mistral’s EU-hosted API or self-deployment
What does this mean then?
Thanks for the link. But yeah if anything I feel even less threatened now that I know the details.
> they got 0.39 tokens/second on a network consisting of 15 $55 Android TV boxes running Gemma4-26B-A4B
Uselessly slow, probably made the TVs so CPU pegged most users would end up restarting theirs and killing the whole thing, and with a model that isn't close to this capability.
Still feels like a stunt? A bigger model would be more capable and could surely find actual GPUs to run on? Or even more likely, just steal keys to run inference on Claude's own APIs?
Part of what feels annoying about this to me is that there are genuine open source efforts being made to run models on any hardware possible because these huge AI companies are hoovering up all compute, and now they are trying to tell us even our TVs can't be trusted while their massive data centers are behind these massive breaches that keep being reported?
Anthropic has an optics problem. I believe they are doing amazing work but IMO publishing stuff like this discredits their image as a serious company.
Are they trying to tell us they have <1B param models that have Opus level hacking ability? Because otherwise this really just reads like another thinly veiled attempt to sabotage the open weight community.
Useful, and I like reported vs. remembered difference. Would be nice to have a larger selection of models, including other modalities.
To spell out my thinking more completely: Yes, I did not mean AskJeeves specifically, I meant broad investment. And likewise nobody should go all in on just SpaceXSI or whatever.
And in any case no, you should not pour your money into tech stocks if you need that money to eat, that was true then as it is today.
Yeah I always find dot com burst comparison apt because like, yeah market corrections will probably happen, but even if you invested in big tech RIGHT before the burst you would probably still be very rich today if you just held.
Anecdotal, but I feel like I've seen an uptick in flagging attacks or aggressive reactions to benign comments. It's odd.
Taking a step back, I think it's interesting that the emotion in the comments is so strong. AI generally seems to be increasing stress, and we get stress-loaded responses when people see something they disagree with instead of the usual discourse.
My prediction: Will go awesome for a few months, and the cracks will start to show. Might even ask you to come back and fix something AI can't seem to get quite right.
A lot of my gig work comes from non-technical people who started down the path with vibe-coding and need bailed out. I foresee a future where I'm overseeing a larger portfolio of projects that just need me to keep things from going off the rails completely.
Opinion pieces on AI have been getting a ton of engagement and bring out a very emotional crowd. It feels very "Reddit" lately, and ironically I find /r/localllama to be better at engaging the technology itself than descending into political flamewars.
