Sedan looks pretty cool. Elaborate on how the cars look ungainly, dull and ugly please.
There are countries that allow you to buy SIM cards without identification, even in bulk. (e.g. Ukraine) They are also sold on various platforms including reddit. You can even enumerate known ports for certain web interfaces (cough ACE *cough) and access them with default passwords.
I'd be extremely concerned about downloading an app to my mobile device from a data collection venture.
Re:Kramnik and AlphaZero: How to Rethink Chess‎ on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @05:43AM (#21812379)
I wonder about the win rate distribution for colors in Fischer chess vs. No castle chess. Either way, this would have to go through FIDE (to be widely implemented) and they're too corrupt to bring community together and make a significant contribution to the game of chess.

This whole story is extremely interesting.
Khasoggi (and a myriad of other political dissidents) was tracked with software obtained by Saudis from Israel (NSO) and butchered in a consulate. A year after it, Veterans are still allowed to co-op with these dudes? No lesson learned after all.

Re:Audio Fingerprinting using the AudioContext API on Monday November 04, 2019 @01:58AM (#21439498)
It's not tracking your voice. It's tracking how your browser plays the audio files. Essentially fingerprinting your hardware. Honestly, i hope there are joker like villains out there fucking with all these fingerprinting companies by feeding them bad data.

Anyone willing to describe us the importance of this image? I'd like to be enlightened.
Re:Spain will prevent “digital republic” in Catalonia on Thursday October 31, 2019 @08:58AM (#21408196)
Balkanization isn't helping anyone, won't help Spain or Catalonians either. The problem relies within our changing political identity. It used to be religion based for so long, which was splintering alright but still was more unifying than nationalism. Now people of any ethnic identity demands a land for it and third parties sponsor them for their own interests. How reasonable is that? It just causes more geopolitical chaos and resource bottlenecks. EU and the USA isn't faring too well with multiculturalism either so our civilization is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Separatist movements in Spain are dangerous for the entirety of Europe. The world is much less stable nowadays and the last thing you'd want is an armed civil-war like conflict in the heart of Europe. But i'm a Turk that grew up watching news of my fellow citizens killed by separatists on the TV so maybe i'm a little bit more sensitive to this issue.
I do this all the time with bash. I run a python script, and try to ctrl+c the output of it while it's still running. My brain refuses to learn right click.
Re:NordVPN confirms it was hacked on Tuesday October 22, 2019 @03:31AM (#21321132)
Now that's a metric
So many companies sunk investment with no returns, so many people lost their jobs trying to figure out what went wrong...
Re:What Happens to the Body on No Sleep on Friday October 11, 2019 @02:17AM (#21221986)
This is so true. I had spent a long time analyzing a chess puzzle, gave up and slept. Boom, i "see" the answer. It was so stimulating that i woke up.
Yeah and regardless of their efficiency, there are people who use dynamic IP. (not by choice)
Nice point. I've been considering changing my router for a while out of privacy concerns. Do you have a suggestion? I was wondering whether i could use my raspberry pi 3b+ for it.
Re:OSSU: A path to a free self-taught education in computer science on Wednesday September 25, 2019 @04:59AM (#21068995)
Simplistic but it's a pragmatic way of looking at things.
They say it's an encrypted disk. It could have a "safety layer" with an easy to guess password.

Either way FBI doesn't need to know anyone's password IMO. People call me pessimistic or unsophisticated for it but i genuinely believe in the eyes of state actors, you really do not have any privacy. They have access to so many lives, they only complain about getting lost in the data (e.g. failing to detect threats).

Re:WTF – A personal information dashboard for your terminal on Wednesday August 28, 2019 @09:30AM (#20819545)
Neat. For people looking at alternatives for configurable dashboards i suggest sampler[0]. It has a weird license but free for personal use. You can report any output of a terminal command with a custom time rate. E.g. you can SSH and pipe HTOP of a remote system, query your local DB and do a timeseries etc. all in one place.
