Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @03:41PM (#50010997)
Exposing the corporate fraud is political? Or is it just political because it uses US symbolism to expose US jobs at US companies being kept from US citizens?
Visa programs have been widely abused for decades. This just addresses the PERM portion for a few companies. The abuses of the OPT, CPT programs are insidious and have resulted in a job market that completely disincentives the hiring of new grad Americans. It's not uncommon to find job postings that are "H1B only". Companies won't even consider citizens. H1B, H4 EAD have become a way for ethnic nepotism and kickback programs to operate without consequences and get American companies to fire Americans in favor of foreign workers. This is just the smallest step in the right direction.
Re:AI is removing the middle class of software engineering on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @06:23PM (#49279411)
No it is true. But H1B is only a portion of it. OPT is unlimited and gives the employer the incentive of not paying FICA tax. Plus OPT candidates are willing to accept a fraction of the salary in the hopes that they can convert to H1B. Plus there are several other visa types being abused H4 EAD, CPT, O1.

On top of all that the commonplace practices of ethnic nepotism and hiring kickbacks.

I think many engineers are extremely naive about what is going on in the industry, which is why these abuses only continue to increase.

Re:How we used to get jobs: A newspaper classifieds story on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @07:33PM (#49265929)
Those jobs aren't meant for you... they post in the classifieds with the hopes nobody responds. All to game the labor market test allowing their visa worker to get a green card.
So one of the public-private backdoors to erode citizen's rights is being undermined. Such a shame.

Maybe you haven't seen the state of things in the US lately...
Re:Oracle Files H-1B Visa Petitions Amid Mass Layoffs on Friday April 03, 2026 @05:01PM (#47632217)
What magical skills do the "damn foreigners" have that none of those 30,000 laid off employees don't have? What was the intent of the H1B? To find skills that don't exist in this country. What is H1B actually used for? Labor arbitrage, nepotism, kickbacks. There's really no excuse for defending it anymore.
Or the bootlicker olympics for those who want everyone else to ignore the constant lies because they think bigger, more powerful government is utopian.
Re:Don't become an engineering manager on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @07:32PM (#47241313)
An unverifiable line item on a resume gives you real insight on an individual's experience and skills? I think your system is flawed.
Re:Bill to Eliminate H-1B Visa Program Introduced in Congress on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @01:28PM (#46530411)
Well you are right about one thing. Government is intent on breaking the country. But rampant immigration immigration fraud and abuse has been around for decades.
Re:Bill to Eliminate H-1B Visa Program Introduced in Congress on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @01:23PM (#46530316)
Go ahead then. Explain how the US government measures the skills of work visa applicants. Because they just exposed millions are buying fake diplomas in India and getting visas. On the contrary, you sound like an H1B worker defending your position to parasitically drain US resources.
Re:Bill to Eliminate H-1B Visa Program Introduced in Congress on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @02:13AM (#46523488)
I think anyone working with the global talent can tell you there are absolutely no controls around measuring their quality. The skilled talent simply isn't skilled at all. They are willing to engage in kickback schemes. Even the O1 "genius" visa is being given to onlyfans models. Immigration is completely broken and it's by design.
Re:Bill to Eliminate H-1B Visa Program Introduced in Congress on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @02:09AM (#46523462)
Yeah, it should also be combined with the elimination of OPT, H4 EAD, and H1 visas that are harming the STEM industries in the same way to the tune of 6 million jobs. New grads can't compete with the tax benefits provided by hiring OPT workers.
Re:Bill to Eliminate H-1B Visa Program Introduced in Congress on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @01:35AM (#46523279)
Rampant abuse, fraud, nepotistic hiring combined with record high tech unemployment to start.

So why do you have a history of being racist against white Americans?
Re:Intel CEO Letter to Employees on Thursday July 24, 2025 @07:39PM (#44677690)
These companies include the most valuable companies making record profits. They aren't struggling to survive. They are bowing to institutional investor demands to eek out another penny because the alternative is they get replaced by the board.
Except "doing it's job" means "enforcing my political beliefs" to most of you
So it's better to have an ad hoc Constitutional Convention being carried out by any random activist judge appointed by any of the previous political opposition? People sure are high and mighty when their opponent subverts the constitution, but are ridiculously silent when their own party burns the constitution.

Re:CDC Data Are Disappearing on Saturday February 01, 2025 @04:14PM (#42902413)
More likely because the insiders at CDC don't want to be historically "fact-checked" and are scurrying to remove the evidence. Why did Fauci need a pre-emptive pardon From Biden?
Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @12:16PM (#42759029)
Exactly.

So what is the tiktok ban really about? If it's about the lack of narrative control, we should see the same ban being applied to RedNote.

Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @12:11PM (#42758960)
As a Chinese, you know what you can't talk about. As an American we are "surprised" when our "free speech" results in overt government-sponsored censorship.

You are very wrong.

Re:TikTok goes dark in the US on Sunday January 19, 2025 @10:48AM (#42758042)
I'm willing to bet Americans are the most propagandized people on Earth. And it's done by our government with the "public/private partnership" aka "unconstitutional workarounds" of all legacy media and social media outlets. Facebook has admitted as much, and the Twitter files proves it.

China controlling the flow of information is the same. The only difference is China is upfront about what information they are feeding everyone.

Re:Updates to H-1B on Thursday December 19, 2024 @02:23PM (#42464837)
Then call me Mr Outlier.

Because large tech companies with a large cohort of H1B + tendency to frequently reorg + career level with impact with large reach means I have indeed worked with hundreds.

Sorry bro, you don't get to deny my actual experience.

Re:Updates to H-1B on Thursday December 19, 2024 @01:36PM (#42464404)
Given that Meta pays so well, why are they so dependent on H1B?

Or google? In 2023 they had a net elimination of 6576 US jobs, but added 5479 H1B.

This isn't a simple market issue, these companies are abusing worker visas to replace Americans from their own companies.

You've clearly never worked in a large tech company.

Re:Updates to H-1B on Wednesday December 18, 2024 @05:34PM (#42456221)
H1B doesn't test for skill. It is a lottery. And judging from the skill of hundreds of H1Bs I've worked with, it is a failure of a system.
