C's beauty is in its simplicity.
Re:Thinking Forth on Monday December 26, 2011 @12:16AM (#3392273)
typo on page 3: "Move the contents or Register B to Register A,"

s/r/f/ that string

Or at the very least, if nobody owns it (as some people seem to believe), then content creators shouldn't be deceived into thinking that they own it and that society won't just pass it around. Whether or not IP exists, society at large needs to mostly agree one way or another, or a lot of people will put a lot of effort into something they wouldn't otherwise, and they won't be reimbursed in the way that convinced them to put in the effort in the first place.
Re:Liberating software - interview with Richard Stallman on Saturday December 17, 2011 @07:55PM (#3365531)
"The Software Freedom Foundation encourages (and participates in) the creation of Liberated Software"

That is counterintuitive and thought-provoking. Thank you for stating it explicitly.

Compiler writing isn't the easiest thing in the world by any stretch, but it's something that we manage to achieve all the time, unlike the mythical "program to do my programming" we are so quick to imagine.
How can non-disclosure of terms be legally binding? How can the label sue without disclosing the licensing terms?
No, the law says that once they're in that position, that position has the power. The question was why we keep putting them in that position.
Or it might be as easy as writing a compiler. These things are hard to prejudge.

pshaw, try data:text/html,<textarea>

that's 11 bytes shorter

Re:WikiLeaks password leak FAQ on Sunday September 04, 2011 @08:06PM (#2960633)
2^60 seconds is a long time
Re:The Price of (Dev) Happiness: Part One on Wednesday August 10, 2011 @03:58PM (#2869896)
People who abuse that phrase probably don't improve as quickly as people who use it sparingly.
Re:Editing with Tor on Wednesday July 20, 2011 @07:11PM (#2787798)
How easy is it to get ahold of a list of Tor exit nodes? In a nightmare scenario, would wikimedia's list of blocked IPs be something an oppressive government might covet?
Re:The "A Bit More" Button on Friday July 30, 2010 @01:47AM (#1560379)
sounds too British for my tastes; I'd prefer "a little more"
Re:Why should JS coders have all the fun? on Monday July 26, 2010 @01:22AM (#1547216)
I yearn for the day when we laugh at that mindset.
Re:This Function is Not Tail Recursive on Friday July 23, 2010 @12:18PM (#1541594)
As you most likely realize, f base needs to equal the identity function. After that, it looks like t is your iterator and g is the function you want to fold. It looks like f is an iterator-friendly fold function.
Re:What does this code do? on Wednesday July 21, 2010 @06:13PM (#1536731)
Who else should be reading procedural code written in a compiled language?
Re:Samoa switches to driving on left on Tuesday July 20, 2010 @11:59AM (#1532424)
Thank you for the factual correction. My point still remains, however, that driving wasn't invented here.
Re:Samoa switches to driving on left on Monday July 19, 2010 @06:50PM (#1530485)
America invented the car, not the buggy.
Re:What a Programmer Sees When He Watches Inception on Monday July 19, 2010 @12:12AM (#1527585)
Perhaps the post's author was speaking more personally. It is semiotically ambiguous.
Re:Getting two AI bots to talk to each other on Friday July 16, 2010 @12:35PM (#1521621)
I ran it three times and enjoyed the output each time.
Re:Tetris effect on Sunday July 11, 2010 @12:28AM (#1504948)
22, played Tetris and variants on older machines when younger. I felt obligated to comment to contradict your "nobody"claim.
Re:On Lisp's Readability and Parenthesis Stacking on Wednesday July 07, 2010 @03:53PM (#1495214)
I write my LISP the way I write my JavaScript: I use one space for indentation, I break up my lines a lot, I nest deeply, and I tend to have a line break after the open and before the close, if the nesting is more than a layer or two deep and two broad. I'd prefer to use a tab for indentation, but I often find myself typing my code into an "eval box" (a textarea on a web page tied to a button that calls eval on the contents of the box).
Re:How to Deconstruct Almost Anything, by a Software Engineer on Wednesday July 07, 2010 @12:35AM (#1493327)
It doesn't have to be a conscious conspiracy.
Re:Ubuntu command line fu - How not to spell "ls" on Tuesday July 06, 2010 @04:23AM (#1490372)
As a dvorak user, I used to type "no" instead of ls (when I was learning dvorak), and I sometimes type "p;" on QWERTY keyboards.
Re:I am an edge case on Monday July 05, 2010 @12:48AM (#1487290)
I suspect you're joking, but the spelling and pronunciation issues are different events.

Re:Poll: What is your religion? on Monday July 05, 2010 @12:31AM (#1487252)
Especially when someone claims to be a member of an ethnic group because their parents were of the corresponding religion.
