Not for long. Prompt engineering is only a stop gap measure. Its value is decreasing day by day.
Just remove Windows 11, duh!

Indians are already a mixed race: ancient (pre Aryan) Iranian hunter-gatherers + eurasian steppe (Aryan) + ancient south Indians etc.

It would have been okay if he stopped there. I think success went to his head and he became the BSer-in-chief of the software industry after that. The Emperor has no clothes.
Re:I Don't Like LLMs on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:46AM (#49750281)
No he did not. For some reason people think he did.

See following article where he talks about the inventors of refactoring: https://martinfowler.com/bliki/EtymologyOfRefactoring.html?u...

I don't like Martin Fowler. He is the archetype of the architect astronaut. The OG bullshit meister.

I like LLMs for stuff I don't care about. Programming is not one of them.

Sometimes yes.

> or use a higher level language? do you use design patterns and functional approaches? metaprogramming, code generation, templating, app frameworks?

Most of the time.

> Each tool, abstraction, language feature elevates coding to get more done with less (more concisely)

Sure. I hope you understand AI is fundamentally different. It's nothing like the things you listed above.

90's high school hobby programmer. I'd rather not use AI for programming if given the chance. For everything else I am pro AI.
Re:Ask HN: Can we please limit the AI news flood? on Friday September 11, 2026 @10:47AM (#49659408)
Sure, if that is what you like. I for one did not get into this field because I wanted to hire people (artificial or natural) to write the programs for me. Programming as an activity / art is what I enjoyed the most. Managing people / agents is a total turn off.
This is precisely what the word quote means!

This takes all the fun out of programming for me.

Some say this war was started to distract from the Epstein files issue.
Most laypeople I know haven't seen an ad blocker in action ever.

Is there a name for the phenomenon in which you look at something and know that there is something wrong with it but struggle to identify the problem?

I got this feeling looking at the (non)word cantine.

How do you run this thing? What kind of hardware do you need?
Isn't this like the P vs NP problems? Once you have a solution it is easy to verify?
Re:How many of the 170k English words do you know? on Saturday June 20, 2026 @04:26AM (#48607400)
Strangely, I knew this one. Once you hear this word it refuses to leave your head.
Re:How many of the 170k English words do you know? on Friday June 19, 2026 @11:27AM (#48599710)
Apparently I am Stephen Fry in disguise :D

My score: 78,000 words, 20/20/19/18/18.

Re:What was nice about the UI of Windows 2000 on Thursday June 18, 2026 @11:44AM (#48587163)
Windows Vista / 7 was peak UI for me.
I have an RTX 5090 card but it only has 32 GB RAM, can something like this work on my machine?
What are some good alternatives (to Xilinx/AMD) for hobbyists / small outfits?

English is a "romance" language then.

Re:LotusNotes on Thursday March 19, 2026 @05:18AM (#47436754)
Here's a quote from the article. Hopefully this helps the people with rose tinted glasses get some perspective...

>Lotus Notes is used by millions of people, but almost all of them seem to hate it. How can a program be so bad, yet thrive?

Re:LotusNotes on Thursday March 19, 2026 @01:10AM (#47435209)
It was bad. There was a dedicated site called lotusnotessucks.com or something like that. It does not exist anymore but here is an article about it: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2006/feb/09/guardianw...
Re:A Visual Introduction to Machine Learning on Sunday March 15, 2026 @07:46AM (#47386473)
Where's the rest of it?
It will use robots to replace pesky humans. The robots can refuel and maintain the power plant etc.

a person whose job is making and repairing wooden objects and structures

Re:D Programming Language on Thursday February 12, 2026 @02:49AM (#46985969)
I think you have misunderstood what a carpenter is. A carpenter is someone who makes wooden furniture (among other things).
