You do realize both ABC and CNN literally went live and said they won't air his speech, right?

Banning speech by half the population is not "soft power" anymore in the world we live in.

What else should I mention? There are countless things you get all when you meet someone in person and talk for 15 minutes that would take very long paragraphs to describe and "justify".

Windows has and still does an excellent built-in FTP API also that was very handy. It works even on Windows 95 all the way to Windows 10.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/wininet/n...

Downloading from HTTP has always been messy, specially for big files. The FTP API been always rock solid.

Edit: Apparently the Gopher API is also still available!

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/wininet/n...

and even has websites!

In January 2020, Veronica indexed 395 gopher servers,[16] within which it indexed approximately 4.5 million unique selectors. http://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/gw?gopher/0/v2/vstat

Did they wipe out the entire old site? The link isn't working anymore and everything looks different.

As someone with a heavy accent, I dislike dating apps...

I can write and sound and look like a certain group, but when I meet people in real life my accent becomes an instant turn-off. That's why I decided to only ever go out with ones whom we met first in real life. Not to mention the privacy implications. Lookup stories of people whose photos were used by scammers in other countries on dating apps..

Re:A New History of Arabia, Written in Stone (2018) on Friday January 08, 2021 @12:40PM (#25687313)
afaik it was because of people living outside Arab countries who didn't have Arabic keyboards or didn't like switching the languages too much. It was always possible to send SMS in Arabic, atleast for the past 15 years.
The old Win32 controls can change their background color just fine. I used these controls in VB6 (1998) and they all had background and foreground properties. It will take time for each app, but won't require a full re-write. More like a single if condition in the startup code.

For this specific case of Notepad:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/controls/wm-c...

> If an application processes this message, the return value is a handle to a brush that the system uses to paint the background of the static control.

Discussion from 2001 referencing the 1998 MSDN documentation:

<Rant> People who haven't used Win32 in its hey day forget how many apps had awesome and unusual look and feel and only relate the the default Windows apps with no effort whatsoever at customization. Except the touch stuff, Win32 can do pretty much anything Metro can and probably more. </Rant>

Re:Tell HN: Never search for domains on Godaddy.com on Thursday September 17, 2020 @04:22PM (#24509516)
afaik there is something in ICANN that allows them to do this completely for free for some period or super cheap, not paying the same price customers pay.

First time I noticed this was in 2008. Over a decade later, they didn't change :/
Am I missing something? The article says this was a May 2019 deal. Why is this news now?
Last two things I got from FB Ads:

"Smart" Wallet in Nov 2019: Never arrived. Owner now keeps posting dramatic posts without issuing anyone a refund.

Bamboo Socks: Never arrived. No email after the first order confirmation last year. No nothing.

iPhone is Mac-only for development. Some things never change..
Does this mean we won't be able to access zombo.com anymore ?

Truly an end of an era :(
