For now. Physical media is being phased out. Sony just quitted the blu-ray player business after others also did and Disney already stopped releasing new discs in Australia.

Do they even have server executables? Lots of developers use some hosted service like Amazon Gameworks for that. That code is not theirs to release.
Do you have anything to back up this 3-5 years claim or is this another hollow 'full self driving by the end of next year' promise?

Not as bad as my 1996 Swift ;)

Had a 2005 too, didn't find it too bad but the engine was noisy due to the high rpms at highway speed.

Re:Intel D270 GPU AI Accelerator–Up to 480 GB LPDDR5X on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @06:22AM (#50069451)
I know. Voodoo 1 and 2 had the ugly VGA passthrough hack. But the principle of reading VRAM from one card and copying it to another would remain the same I think.
Re:Intel D270 GPU AI Accelerator–Up to 480 GB LPDDR5X on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @04:28AM (#50068468)
I had that setup working back in the day with a Voodoo1 which had the pass-trough construction to take over full screen: only on Linux you could read the completed frames and render them in an X window. It was dog slow though.

While transfers have improved a lot the amount data needed for 4K60 with HDR is about 18Gbps. There's no way that doesn't have an impact.

I'm sure there are people that don't value Stephen King's stories that highly who would love him being reported. (see https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/15/utah-bans-st... )

The Blu-ray spec demands a better coating.
Re:Is sandboxing sufficient to contain rogue agents? on Thursday October 01, 2026 @01:54PM (#49924887)
You can't analyze binaries you don't have access to. E.g. code that lives on an application server and is only accessible via an API.
That's the competition I was talking about: SP-404, (used) OctaTrack, MPC live or sample, EP-133 KO 2. All cost about the same or less and do a heck of a lot more.
It was priced very high, even for a boutique musical instrument. There are a lot of samplers on the market on (or even under) that price point and some simple ones that cost a fraction of it.
Re:Is sandboxing sufficient to contain rogue agents? on Thursday October 01, 2026 @03:41AM (#49918881)
It's got nothing to do with the licensing, but it used to be 'with enough eyes all bugs are shallow' for code developed in the open.

Now, open code allows anyone with tokens to burn to analyze it for hidden weaknesses. That makes publishing code a risky move unless you've already invested a lot of effort in securing it.

Re:Digital Audio on the ZX Spectrum's 1-Bit Beeper on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @04:02AM (#49905861)
Nice idea, it has 8 data lines, so 8 bits audio should be possible.
Re:Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @03:54AM (#49905797)
"Gas car" companies like Volkswagen or Volvo also have EVs built from the ground up, and have models cheaper than Tesla, most of the time with slightly lesser range or other specs but price/performance wise in the same ballpark.

If anything makes it more expensive it's the habit of certain manufacturers to nickel and dime buyers over every option.

Sucks to be one of the 'relatively sparse' cases then.

Lots of cases are ultimately thrown out due to lack of evidence. Even Kevin Spacey was acquitted.

I don't know if you can call any point&click game objectively 'good': they all suffer from the problem of the player getting occasionally stuck after missing a hint or failing to make a deduction. Besides, they are heavily story-based which makes liking them a matter of personal taste.

Just a few weeks until the OoT remake is released

Well, killing someone is an effective way to prevent them from harming others.

Tell that to all the heretics burned at the stake.
Yes, but support in devices and cables is very limited.
Re:The Death of Physical Media on Thursday September 03, 2026 @08:05AM (#49548904)
Have you seen the backlash in gaming circles about game studios that use AI? Lots of gamers will avoid your game like the plague if there's even a hint of AI generated 'artwork' in it.

There are lots of open source games or game engines where the artwork is trivial to acquire and lots of people enjoy them. But these engines also have to be maintained to be available 'forever'. The business model of game development seems not really suited to open source, lots of games are ripped off within days and posted on app stores with a slightly different name. And that's with proprietary code, with OSS it will take even less time. If you can't sell it you can't live from it and if you can't live from it you don't have the time and incentive to make a great game.

Re:Matrox: Graphics for Professionals on Monday August 31, 2026 @11:29AM (#49510940)
That's Accelerated/X right. I had a Matrox Millennium card in my PC when I discovered Linux and remember trying that. Made a lot of difference.
Re:Apple Maps Ads Are Here, and There's No Way to Turn Them Off on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @10:43AM (#49450109)
Strangely enough I often use Google Maps on my iPhone because I'm looking for businesses that have no presence on Apple Maps. I don't see the opportunity for companies to present themselves in Apple's app as a net negative for users.
There are still landlines in use (although they mostly use VOIP instead of analog phone lines). All cheap cordless phones I know run DECT. It's more than enough speed for speech and more stable than wifi.

The AVM Fritz product line of consumer modem/routers all include a DECT modem for registering extra handsets for voice but they have their own proprietary handsets that support TCP/IP over DECT for things like audio streaming or sending extra media like a caller photo.

> like "Photos" obviously needs to be able to see my photos...

Maybe you'd like to use a competitor to the Photos app and don't want to use the one Apple provides?

Re:AGI-64 Brings Sierra Adventures to the Commodore 64 on Monday August 17, 2026 @04:12AM (#49327782)
Only with some serious downgrading of the assets. I remember playing SCI games on an 8MHz XT class PC and everything ran dog slow. Some SCI games had optional animations that didn't play on a slow machine.
Some of those games are remarkably fun and addictive though. It's difficult to take an arbitrary spec and say that's 'good enough'. For some it's too much, others still want more. Depends on the kind of games you want.
Atari 2600 titles are between 1 and 4Kb and have 128 bytes of RAM. Still enough for some quality entertainment back in its time.
Re:Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK on Saturday August 08, 2026 @06:25AM (#49220437)
And it's not even an Oracle product. If you want that from them you need WebLogic.

To be fair, recent versions of JBoss/Wildfly removed a lot of the bloat and boot within seconds. Startup time is mostly due to application frameworks nowadays.

There's no Switch 2 version, it's supported through Switch 1 compatibility.

The Switch port has gyro aiming though.
