Re:Twitter API will cost money starting on February 9th on Thursday February 02, 2023 @05:14AM (#34624579)
7 Days notice with no details on alternatives. Nice one, twitter, I'm sure this won't drive anyone off the platform or anything.
In my experience, some small businesses avoid Apple Pay/Google Pay because you can add American Express cards to them, and they want to not accept Amex cards in order to save on the fee, despite the service agreement of their payment processor obligating them to.

Is this our version of the protomolecule? When do we send Joe Miller to investigate?

Get yourself a Pi-hole. Block all phone home attempts. https://pi-hole.net/

This was the first algorithm I ever searched for on wikipedia, back when I first learned to code. Good memories.

Sweet service. When will they start charging a subscription to cancel your other subscriptions?
Re:How I Got my $3500 Camera Kit Stolen on KitSplit on Tuesday June 25, 2019 @07:09PM (#20280162)
Ooh, another opportunity to push product.

So you gotta purchase optional insurance in additional to the 22% platform fees. Certainly makes the prospect of renting out my kit worth thousands of dollars for literal tens of dollars all the more attractive.

Re:Sign In with Apple [video] on Friday June 07, 2019 @04:39PM (#20128392)
Pretty useless, as steam and other websites have already blacklisted the idbloc.co domain as disposable, preventing user sign ups.
Re:Apple Sign In on Monday June 03, 2019 @02:08PM (#20086226)
Google's + and . trick on a dummy-proof, invisible, consumer level. Nice!
Re:Ethiopian Max Crash Simulator Scenario Stuns Pilots on Monday May 13, 2019 @02:38PM (#19902394)
Registration wall and the ol' HN Hug of Death, not a good combination.
Re:Apple announces Apple Card credit card on Monday March 25, 2019 @01:44PM (#19484715)
Innovative privacy features in exchange for sub-par rewards. RIP us North of the border, though.

Netherlands: Let's add lightning strips at the end of crossroads to appear in people's peripheral vision.

China: Just fine them.

Re:OpenAI Five at Dota 2 – The International [video] on Wednesday August 22, 2018 @08:12PM (#17823422)
This time, OpenAI is playing a normal game without restrictions. Team Human got thoroughly trashed last time vs OpenAI in a game with hero restrictions.

Go OpenAI! I For One welcome our new robot overlords.

Re:The US Mint lost $69M making pennies last year on Friday June 29, 2018 @07:35PM (#17428673)
This is the basic premise of the rounding system - it's really not worth the effort of quarreling over the gain or loss of two cents.

IMO Canada should've gotten rid of the nickel as well. One step at a time, I guess.

Re:The Brotherhood of the Ad Blockers on Thursday May 10, 2018 @02:41PM (#17041788)
Ever since I was given my first computer and was allowed on the internet, I've had NoScript and Adblock installed.

I installed a Pi-hole last week, totally worth. Best amount of time and money I've spent so far this year.

Re:Delta Lyft – Link Skymiles and Lyft on Thursday September 21, 2017 @11:35PM (#15309229)
Looks like Delta is also linking up with Airbnb http://deltaairbnb.com

Clever new way to attract customers and earn referral fees, but I think the SkyMiles yield from these programs is too low to bother with.

I'd love to get an invite, if anyone has an extra lying around.
