Re:Linode Security Incident on Sunday November 01, 2026 @12:16AM (#50322667)
this is the problem with prohibition we all know ai tools can be useless and amazing depending how you use them. bad actors aren’t constrained to the one way anthropic uses them or the way they will let us use them, so the good guys are at the mercy of their capabilities. i would feel a-lot safer with more access in more hands than the current climate. to your point about existing security tools, we all know tools make ai even more capable so we shouldnt be framing it as a replacement in either direction but again ai orchestration using these tools and improving them. look at anyps5 do we expect ai could do this from a cold prompt? or is it the pattern they deployed plus the ai capabilities that made it possible. cyber security with ai will follow the same patterns. bad guys have to win once and good guys have to win every time making the tool access asymmetric just makes that even harder. doing that under the guide of safety is mind boggling.

if anything we should be using ai to find this stuff before the bad actors, too bad the model providers are hell bent on regulatory capture via fear
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:21AM (#50244205)
subscriptions use already paid for compute in the holes left by high paying api customers, its hardly subsidised, if you look at it objectively, subscriptions are 100% margin
you live in the time of human history that is objectively the safest and most comfortable that any population of humans have ever enjoyed, look inward if that cant make you happy or excited for the future
Re:CVE Tracker on Friday October 23, 2026 @07:31PM (#50216798)
what would help with this is to regulate and restrict frontier models from doing cyber work so that the good guys are defenceless against bad actors /s.

really disagree with western policy makers and ai company leaders on the path they are steering us, leaving us defenceless all for the sake of their obvious self serving attempts at regulatory capture.

human advancement is a function of population, instead of focusing on population decline to solve our resource problems we should focus on efficiency and technology. i am not rooting to revert to the dark ages i really struggle with this ideology of reduction that seems extremely popular. we really take for granted the fragility of human existence we exist in a pico second of reality and could and most likely will be snuffed out eventually, having our own species rooting for this outcome seems suicidal.
Re:France needs to read my paper on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:37AM (#50210811)
i agree with you that it wouldnt be perfect, but dont follow your logic? the gov designates zoning and collects the resulting taxes wouldnt it encourage in the worse case over zoning?
Re:France needs to read my paper on Friday October 23, 2026 @06:49AM (#50206969)
lvt is too ham fisted, what your really want to tax isinefficient land usage, eg your land is zoned for higher density or industrial etc and you fail to deploy it as such then you should pay a tax for that. this encourages investment and discourages land banking. moving that land into those who will deploy it and lower the overall cost of doing things overall
Re:Animate Anything with Stick Figures on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:59AM (#50178320)
this would pair well with seedance for a coherence layer
what a symbolic post about how authoritarian this stuff has become
cinemas are being squeezed to death caused by their and their landlords greed. tickets and food service is reaching many months of streaming service costs. leading to less and less patrons, eventually landlords will be left holding some pretty expensive auditoriums
hes talking about france
until people charge all visitors this is incredibly unlikely to ever work
its impossible for something to be aligned and super intelligent, its a contradiction
respectfully your ad hominem reflects more poorly on you intellectual capacity than mine
Re:AI Can Write the Code. Who Verifies It? on Sunday October 18, 2026 @12:31AM (#50137935)
1,000 devs write the code. Who verifies it?
the response to this has always astounded me, the fact this tool can do this is a massive benefit to society. if your knee jerk response to this is jail time or prohibition i really dont understand it. the government should be y these products and pointing them inward in response. the bad guys dont care about your dooming they will use these tools faster than you can control the world. bad actors only need to win once good guys have to win forever
Re:Abolish AI Manifesto on Sunday October 18, 2026 @12:04AM (#50137816)
capitalism is the only thing that can destroy itself. communism wont lead to abundance
isnt this system controlled by the us government? distinct from consumer starlink service?
be great to see a future where we have “storage”, pv and nuclear triad.
hn is becoming reddit every day
feed the whois data to jev also
Re:"I'm Not Going to Have Blood on My Hands" on Saturday October 17, 2026 @07:10PM (#50136027)
gambling unfortunately is human nature. its much better to regulate vices then prohibition which leads to criminality and an increase in adjacent crime like racketeering and extortion
id integrate a local jev like model and for unknown emails after domain lock, include a valid email and the new email and ask the jev model to rate the likely hood its from the same sender
The relevant framework is US federal defence procurement law, particularly the FAR and DFARS. Starshield is a military system that Musk says is under US government operational control. Much like other defence systems supplied by private contractors, the supplier doesn’t necessarily retain authority over military deployment or usage. The distinction is that no law forced these specific restrictions; the law and contracts provide the framework for the US government to make those decisions.

and yes its ai slop, its about as much effort as you put into asking this question so we are even.

This makes sense if you completely ignore the existence of american law.
no access to binary or source code of the application
this is going to lead to a trend of all software running on vendor computers instead of users its the only viable way
i predict the price of intelligence will continue to drop (normalise capability per $) eventually hardware production will meet demand. analog and inference chips with baked models have the potential to make inference distinct from training and substantially make the cost comparison asymmetric.
the question is how much of this inability to realise roi is technology vs skill. i have plenty of clients who drop 10m on an enterprise transformation project but couldnt (currently) manage the power a 10m nvidia rack would give them, its only a matter of time before they can or their competitors can.
