To what end though? Safer meaning you have line of sight on employment? What kind of life is it where you have work but no life? I ask these as the husband of an internist who has been practicing for over 10 years. It’s a fucking grind. We’re 40 now and both of us are looking at her job and asking is it really all worth it?

When I left GitHub in 2022 it was still heavily used for so many things. Unsure if it's still in use there today but it wouldn't surprise me.
Unfortunate phrasing about inability to stand on its own two legs or it dies here.
Idk what you’re talking about but you can’t in good faith say _anything_ about this presidency is comparable to any other US presidency ever. You’re disingenuous, a troll, AI, or all of the above.
How do you think those final stages of maturing would have been different for you?

I picked up weed in my mid 30s and now in my late 30s am a heavy user. Sometimes I take an edible and hack on a hard problem in the middle of the workday and it turns it into a fun challenge rather than a stressful endeavor. I think finding weed at this stage in my life has made me more introspective and certainly a better husband and person. I also quit drinking a few years ago and weed plus no alcohol has made my life immensely better.

Hypothetically you could just not seed.
Beej’s was great for me when I was doing some socket programming in C for my OS class in grad school. Classic and invaluable resource.
I had a great relatively chill job at a FAANG-adjacent company, making 300ish in a LCOL city. I went and chased some money at a very large company. It ended up being the worst possible time. The company was soul-sucking, they froze hiring as soon as I got there when I supposed to be building out a new team, I sat around and did nothing for like six months before I was laid off.

I took a few months off and got connected to a co founder of a local seed stage startup through a friend. I convinced one of my best friends to join me there as well.

While we are making less money, the work has been really fulfilling. No more big company bullshit, I help determine direction with a handful of other leaders, and I feel like I make an impact. We have product market fit, we’re growing, and the hardest part is scaling to keep up with the growth.

It’s been fun, I’ve learned a ton. I probably haven’t worked this hard in a long time but I really do feel fulfilled in my work which I haven’t been able to say in a long time.

YMMV

I believe part of the argument is that it can lead to over policing. I’m in Cleveland where it’s been controversial because most of the devices have been deployed to predominantly black neighborhoods. So they get the most detections because that’s where the most sensors are because they were guided by police data on where the most gun violence historically has been located. Which leads to more police presence, more shakedowns, harassment of people in those neighborhoods. It can lead to a bad reinforcement loop.
Never done it myself, but I imagine understanding how the components all fit together is more valuable/fun than dealing with the minutiae of every function.

Where did the name slumlord come from?
So what does this mean for Google Voice and Google Fi users? All my SMS runs through Hangouts.
