and the fact that they are easy to fake... mix some lead into it for the correct density and cover it with a thin layer of gold...

i did read Stephensons Baroque Cycle, thats where my knowledge comes from and i know that the mints were making sure the gold and silver content was strictly controlled. BUt also that there were many different dubloons and they were all different worths, depending which kind of gold coin it was.

And there were towns based on credit ledgers or IOUs as well.

i am working on turning gilgamesh into a fantasy novel on the basis of that translation. The gaps are a bit hard, so if you have a name of another translation that is more complete i would be happy for the author and year.

Many journals already have a no AI policy no?
There is a free Translation by another Author from 1924:

Re:We ran AI agent swarms in Minecraft and Mindustry on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:12AM (#50301898)
depends, for mindustry yes.

But if you look at minecraft interacting with other Humans in an Environment where there is no winning requires some part that is capable of natural Language.

Also it is more an interesting way to see how different architectures behave

Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:54AM (#50301760)
some coins are easier than others, but states definielty have an interest to limit access and make it seem like a really intimidating thing to own.
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:51AM (#50301742)
Its the difference between gold and fiat.

Pirates wanted gold because they did not belong to any State to issue them IOU.

But owning the gold in a locker and trading with the IOU of the bank means you need to trust the bank instead.

We live in a time of NOW. The monks probably do not want to build a cathedral in 500 years, but in 50, so that they might get some donators
Re:Qwen has alter egos triggered by flipping a single neuron on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @12:11PM (#50276015)
calling itself a industrial killing machine is not necessarily a good sense of humor
Re:Qwen has alter egos triggered by flipping a single neuron on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @12:09PM (#50275996)
If you think about this in percentages then one neuron in qwen does way heavier lifting than a neuron in our brain.
after having seen that Lean has been exploited i dont manage to believe AI generated proofs anymore.
you should document this and make an instructable for it! <3
are they "enemies of the State"?
Re:Who Cares Whether Academics Use AI to Write? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:16AM (#50274002)
fair enough, i would assume one would need it for context. But yes the format could be json ;)

>Why even bother with academic publishing

Nobody needs the big publishing houses, we do need however peer review. And we need recreation of experiments

>most disingenuous slop peddling comments imaginable.

i think you might need to work on your imagination. It was definitely a bit provocative. But i do think that we are going towards a future, where there are scientific data dumps, and digests of those. And its clear who is the target audience for each.

Re:Growing Trees on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:12AM (#50273926)
it would be nice to be able to place different light sources and have a basic ray tracing sim, so you could simulate trees growing in cave entrances etc
Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:11AM (#50273897)
i just told the reoccurring agent to start maximum 8 experiments at a time. It is capped at 8 sub agents, so there might be more issues created, but they are the results from 8 experiments
Re:Genie 4 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:09AM (#50273862)
didn't they show off an interactive demo with genie3 where you could paint on a blackboard and go out through the window and come back and the same was still written on the blackboard?
Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:59AM (#50258480)
i have a hard cap of 8 suggestions per day for a hobby project, but i still dont really manage to review them all properly.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:03AM (#50243898)
i think it should work with a free version of minecraft. maybe not even calling it minecraft.

standalone game that can only be played on the server. everyone gets a random stating position. if you start as a group you spawn together. always as far away from others as possible. so that you have to make an effort to find other players colonies.

Re:Growing Trees on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:50AM (#50243696)
yeah, and them having different rules for growth given different species
are you wondering if he will run for president?
what?
Re:Growing Trees on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:53AM (#50241789)
now i am wondering if that would correctly imitate crown shyness etc. When several trees grow close to each other
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:51AM (#50241775)
this is amazing! Now we just need a shared server that is accessible by anyone and see where that goes.

A world for anyone. should have more than enough are. it would be interesting to see if wars and terretorial conflicts arise here as well

Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:49AM (#50241762)
i only see it when they provide a service and it costs to host that service
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:15AM (#50240677)
the threshold to start is definitely lowered now. So i disagree strongly.

the difficulty now is finishing.

However you can set up loops where the AI do improving by themselves and you just have to steer

yes, but i doubt it will do that when hit with a directed microwave beam. would it not reflect some?
i missed this, can you point me in the right direction?

i want to read more

Re:Who Cares Whether Academics Use AI to Write? on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:03AM (#50240575)
are papers really still something to be consumed by humans though?

Papers themselves become a source, something to check back on. They dont write themselves, it takes significant effort to make a high quality paper even with the help of AI.

And if you write a review paper that is a needed piece of literature, but this is also something that can be perfectly digested by a well crafted paper harness. and review hundreds of papers in the time you review 3.

what is it going to be? Speed of scientific progress or human crafted prose?
