Re:"Code was never the hard part" is an insult to all programmers
on Sunday August 09, 2026 @11:30AM (#49232358)
Each unit of work in any given feature of a Web app has been implemented 500 times yesterday alone, and nearly each time exactly the same way. I mean that’s what programming basically is right? I’m surprised these patterns that are repeated so often by developers could have been/still be automated away even without AI/LLMs.

If you forget, or don't have money, or whatever reason else for not renewing the domain, you will lose access to many of your accounts more than likely.

Re:The Art and Science of Spending Money
on Monday January 16, 2023 @03:53AM (#34398463)
I’ve sort of adopted the mindset that money comes and goes and we should spend it on things if we reckon we will get enough value out of it. Now, I’m having a daughter soon and feel a bit immature about it all despite earning a decent salary, but I can’t help not wanting to feel like a slave to money especially knowing how many people with far less get by just fine.

I quit my job to work by myself full time on an application development platform that I plan on using to roll out several developer/founder applications and services with. Eventually, I plan o building a no-code solution around and on top of the libraries and infrastructure I’ve been building. Also, will use it to relaunch my budgeting application @ budgetbloom.com

I’ve really enjoyed my Super 73. Good range, speed and really fun to ride. Recently I turned it on and the battery started smoking and from all appearances was about to explode. Thankfully it didn’t. And although it took awhile to get the line of communications straight, they are replacing the entire bike and shipping should only take a week or so.

I worked at Nike and we had the same thing occur. Basically change any and all references of Taiwan to “Taiwan - A province of China” or they threatened to shut down Nike.com in China. Everything else stopped until we made the change. I thought it was weird and showed how much influence China had over even a huge American company and brand. I quit three months ago, have vowed that I will never work for a corporation that chooses greed over people again.
Re:The Demand for Money Behind Many Police Traffic Stops
on Sunday October 31, 2021 @07:52PM (#29061631)
If you've ever been to a municipal court for a traffic ticket (I've noticed this even in smaller town of the US) you'll find a courtroom packed full of people (more than not lower income folks) and a judge who rattles off fines like an auctioneer ($50... $130 for you... $90... $250...). It's clearly a huge money maker for the local government.
Re:The human tendency to over-water plants
on Monday October 04, 2021 @07:15AM (#28745271)
My dad was visiting recently and watered one of my old dead bonsais and said sometimes you water them and they come back.
That plant didn't come back (yet?), but not a week ago I am planting some new flowers I got on sale and I see that a plant that I had written off as dead a year ago was actually had a green stalk still at least up to the soil line. I've seen plants survive and come back from a lot, but nothing like this. I'm going to keep watering it and hopefully it will grow a new stalk and come back to life!

I have quit my software engineering job to focus full time for the next 4-5 months on creating software in some fairly crowded spaces. I’m banking on my “piece of the pie” theory that if I can just get even a tiny piece of the pie (ie market share, across all of my offerings) that perhaps I can earn enough to be self sufficient and pay the bills at least. The most important factor I reckon is the execution of development and marketing objectives, but it really does feel like a gamble at the moment.

And no, I'm not talking about abortion, but everything else on Earth that is considered a preventable death; like car accidents (Ban cars!) and wars that we conveniently forget when about the pendulum swings to our favored political party so we can safely and costlessly say that we've learned and grown and now we're better despite the hundreds of thousands of lives we've cost over the years because we just trusted the "thinking heads" and academics and the corporate elite and government officials in bed with them.

Given that they have chosen that destiny willingly for themselves, what's wrong with that? I personally feel it's a bit more nuanced of a decision then you're allowing. What do the vaccinated care? Why does this unvaxxed life matter to them all of a sudden when they've had plenty of opportunities to care about life before but haven't?
