And the PIIGS countries also.
He's storing private data that can geolocate people (mac address + exact geolocation + timestamp)
What's his gdpr policy?
Re:Why do they burn a man at Burning Man? on Saturday September 04, 2021 @02:38PM (#28417829)
I think we can all sympathise with that sentiment, regardless of our sex :P

Hating an ex is a misogynistic act? Surely some women also hate their exes?
That's a problem with social networks at large. At least before the stupid or degenerate were ashamed of themselves. Now everybody can find a circus of freaks to belong to, which makes them believe their behaviour to be appropriate.

Nothing beats Cabronator
Which one of those psychological associations would have the balls to go against the flow if they felt like it was necessary?
Re:Today was my last day at Google on Friday September 03, 2021 @07:09PM (#28410465)
Am I reading this well? Is he claiming Google search code is not using version control at all?
Re:The WHO lists Mu as a Variant of Interest on Friday September 03, 2021 @03:10PM (#28408103)
Is taking our freedoms sine die the best solution, though?
And don't forget that all of this was ruled illegal a year later. All fines reimbursed, but who gives us back the time that was stolen from us?
In my country you are removed and fined if you are seen indoors or outdoors where you can't keep a distance without a mask.

It's when I read comments like yours that I feel so jealous of the US. You don't even know what living where I am is like. For you it's like a place that couldn't possibly exist. :P

Re:Gitpod shipped GitHub a launch cake for Codespaces on Friday September 03, 2021 @01:08PM (#28406776)
The post renders completely and correctly and is promptly replaced by a 500 error that is probably fake. Modern web development is hilarious.
Re:Minxin Pei on Why China Will Not Surpass the United States on Friday September 03, 2021 @12:43PM (#28406478)
How original, another expert commentary that says China will eventually stop growing because it's not a liberal democracy :')
It's reverse engineered using IDA and such. I think even the class/functions names are the same since the developer forgot to strip one of the binaries.

As much as I support this kind of project, I would say they are legally screwed. But they already knew that when they started.

Re:Improving the Hacker News Ranking Algorithm on Friday September 03, 2021 @06:47AM (#28402541)
I wonder if one could express a complex ranking algorithm in, say, yaml

Or maybe send the entire list of links of the day to the client and sort it using JavaScript provided by the user

Re:Someone could be tracking you through your headphones on Thursday September 02, 2021 @11:53AM (#28393629)
Plug and go. And then they tangle. And then the weight of the cable pulls your ears down constantly. And then you have a string of cable all day dangling below your shirt that sometimes gets stuck on things. Thanks but no thanks. Humanity has moved on.
Re:Someone could be tracking you through your headphones on Thursday September 02, 2021 @11:23AM (#28393182)
Maybe I'm just young, but I really like the simplicity of wireless headphones. No wires.

This reminds me of the story of kiwi farms and how expensive and mentally taxing for the founder it's been to keep it online.

Signal is getting funded by some crypto they rolled out, of which own the majority. I don't want that kind of crap included in the WhatsApp messenger.
Just don't collect data and who funds the development and infrastructure? If your answer is to start charging users, everybody would move to another messenger that is free, and the same problem will eventually arise.
Survival rate for 20-49 is 99.98% according to the CDC.
That's why local media exists.
The article doesn't seem to explain at all what the specific violations are. The article also seems like it was written for the "simple English" Wikipedia. I get all anxious with this new thing of putting every sentence in its own paragraph.
Re:The Sackler Family Wins Immunity from Future Opioid Lawsuits on Wednesday September 01, 2021 @07:08PM (#28386683)
Depends on whether they are victims or perpetrators.
As opposed to us educated people who point at studies that months later mysteriously fail to replicate.
I didn't say they don't exist anywhere else, but they didn't exist here until recently.

I also didn't say the purpose is screwing poor people, but like many other things like car emissions caps, they introduce new regulations and laws and bullshit without thinking the poor are often disproportionately affected by them.

Oh, we have acknowledged it. The question is, have our politicians acknowledged it, or will they keep taking our rights?
