Yet another thing Democrats fight against and Republicans support
Re:Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade on Friday June 24, 2022 @04:17PM (#31868744)
I have grown to hate edgy comments that are like "Well actually now it is just a state's issue and Roe v Wade was poorly decided!".

You're not edgy & insightful. The impact of this decision isn't just pushing pieces around a chess board. It's scared women & girls around the country, it's women dying who wouldn't have otherwise.

Free speech for me but not for thee.
You are one of the very few people to have no kids and a seemingly utopian home. This does not seem like an experience most would have.
I have always thought this. The fundamental way this is discussed today (taxation as a punitive measure) rather than celebrating the contribution to society titans of industry make when they pay their taxes.
Wtf are you on about
I think it's pretty reasonable to bet on people being incredible stupid and stuck in their ways; concluding that we have a better chance of innovating out of it than changing human behavior is a pretty worthy hedge.
Re:Ask HN: How does TurboTax get away with dark patterns? on Sunday February 20, 2022 @09:15PM (#30411232)
I've used FreeTaxUSA and it's done everything I've ever wanted.
Re:Google Search Is Dying on Tuesday February 15, 2022 @04:39PM (#30353137)
That's so funny, because I use Google to search reddit, because Google's search of reddit is better than Reddit's.
Re:Why U.S. Infrastructure Costs So Much on Wednesday December 08, 2021 @05:59PM (#29491697)
This is stupid af because there are plenty of other countries with similar incentives & similar levels of corruption who don't have this problem. This sort of low-effort "lol everything bad" adds nothing to the discourse.
Re:Nuclear energy is long-term sustainable on Friday November 12, 2021 @10:54AM (#29200541)
I do not understand why this comment is getting votes. The doomer perspective alone should be disqualifying... While we can't completely prevent any climate change, we have already significantly bent the curve and our efforts now are important - 2 degrees warming vs. 4 degrees is incredibly material.

Lol it's nice that you can just send all the covid patients to the city to get treated and you guys can pretend covid doesn't exist
Sure, but you're suggesting that they are doing that without any evidence.

This is classic conspiracy theorist rhetoric, whether that's your intention or not.

Is there any evidence they are?

Otherwise, that sounds like a conspiracy theory itself.

I want none of those features.

I want automatic backup, easy sharing, and accessibility from all devices.

Found Marjorie Taylor Greene!

Moved on from the Holocaust comparisons, at least.

Re:Google Offices to Mandate Vaccines on Wednesday July 28, 2021 @11:23PM (#27992474)
It's not that complex. These people also acted like masks were an affront to their liberties. It's not about the facts, they're delusional.
Re:Google Offices to Mandate Vaccines on Wednesday July 28, 2021 @11:21PM (#27992460)
What argument..?

The workforce is safer if vaccines are mandated in the office. Indisputable.

Re:Google Offices to Mandate Vaccines on Wednesday July 28, 2021 @11:20PM (#27992456)
That's nice. I have a baby. I don't want to be exposed to unvaxxed people at the office and risk bringing that home to my baby.
Re:Google Offices to Mandate Vaccines on Wednesday July 28, 2021 @11:19PM (#27992451)
It's a thought, I suppose, but the science is in on the vaccines. It's not in on the case you're talking about, and given the safety & availability of the vaccine it's an easy call.
Republicans think it's a wedge issue, so they're happy to distract from real issues and ruin trans people's lives.
Re:Is education no longer the ‘great equalizer’? on Wednesday June 23, 2021 @04:12PM (#27609584)
Being a do-er... what a nice, simple, seemingly intuitive concept.

I grew up in a rich area; all of my friends (even the screwballs) are in white-collar jobs, they are all "senior this" and "lead that". I'm 30. Even the people who were serious screw-ups, getting in trouble, drugs, rehab, etc. are doing relatively well - they just had unlimited re-tries.

On the contrary, my wife is from a relatively poor area. Most of the people she knew are poor, have a number of kids, and are just struggling to make ends meet in blue collar jobs.

I don't think my rich kids group had "the ability to DO THINGS". They just had every advantage & their failures were just setbacks in a nearly inevitable path to success.

The more simple explanation would probably be "a person doing this doesn't have a firm grip on reality, and might be a suicide risk"
Re:Killing TurboTax on Wednesday March 03, 2021 @07:07PM (#26336758)
Aren't there a number of tools that people use already other than TurboTax? This seems incorrect.

How in the world has this been upvoted lol

I never cease to be surprised when an otherwise intelligent person lays judgment on something they likely do not understand. At larger companies, these types of roles are invaluable. I'm going to charitably that this isn't referring to product management - it's dumb either way though.

The slogan is defund. I.e. reduce
Re:Tired of note-taking apps on Sunday July 19, 2020 @11:24PM (#23894409)
I just keep a running document with all my meetings, notes, etc. and when I need to pull things out into a more focused document, I do so. It's worked pretty well.
That's because it's exhausting to debunk idiots & those operating in bad faith (often both); it takes several orders of magnitude more work to respond and debunk that unicorns don't exist than it does to post that they do.
This is not true; a) more rural states have a much easier time with covid and b) blue states started off being hit the hardest, but red states are now catching up because their governors are incompetent
