Could you comment more on how you set this up? I have a mostly idle 9070XT I use for gaming, and I was considering using it with the newer local open models. Many thanks.
Re:Orion Browser by Kagi on Monday July 20, 2026 @04:47AM (#48975973)
My main issue with Linux beta is the inability to sync with my Macbook and iPhone sessions. I move tabs between devices quite often in Firefox. Although, I will confess not spending much time looking at this problem or any solutions.

Agree with the lack of publicly-available source code.

Re:Orion Browser by Kagi on Monday July 20, 2026 @04:45AM (#48975955)
I have been running Orion mobile on my iPhone for 3 or 4 years. Occasionally scrolling up or down would get stuck, but I haven't experienced that in a long time. I tend to do simple things though. Read HN, NYT, reddit, webtoons, and that is about it. The native ad-free experience is top.
Re:Choosing a Public DNS Resolver on Sunday June 28, 2026 @06:49AM (#48706201)
I would be curious if you could provide any examples for the issues you cite. They sound plausible to me, especially around peering disputes or in various Asia countries, but I wonder how in practice this looks in like a traceroute for the amount of added latency etc.

I would suspect some of non-optimized scenarios are eyeball network operator decisions on their networks that DNS providers and others do not have much control over. Like, Cloudflare resolves an IP that is closest to them, which is likely also the closest to the end user (and the eyeball ISP), but the eyeball ISP BGP path to that resolved IP takes a roundabout path because of their own BGP policy because $reasons.

Re:Deutsche Telekom is violating Net Neutrality on Sunday January 25, 2026 @05:11AM (#46752583)
We have many BGP workarounds to avoid interconnection points with some of our tier 1 providers and DT because as our providers tell us, discussions with DT to add capacity are a non-starter. We've been relatively stable through a tier 2 provider through Lumen to DT though... for now. Very similar to Cogent in some regions.
Re:Kubernetes egress control with squid proxy on Monday December 29, 2025 @01:02PM (#46423352)
To each their own. I mostly figured out why, and I did not want to create too much tech debt in my homelab with brittle split-DNS and PostUp/PostUp wireguard configurations. I already had ansible and templates setup to move back to the VM and docker-compose. I did learn a fair bit on CoreDNS, so that was a worthwhile experiment.
Re:Kubernetes egress control with squid proxy on Monday December 29, 2025 @08:01AM (#46420229)
I had challenges with split-DNS in my homelab k3s cluster trying to do this. I ended up just putting the apps in docker-compose on a VM that has static routes for my local homelab networks. I looked at tailscale to solve this since it has a kubernetes operator, but tailscale doesn't fit my use cases or work well with all of my devices.
Google gave a presentation on this that I think is helpful context for "why": https://nanog.org/events/nanog-94/content/5452/
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-dns-over-https

By extension, any application or device could rely on DoH instead of OS-provided or network-provider DNS servers. It is controversial, since it both helps individuals combat ISP or government censorship and also helps bad actors do bad things [1].

Re:Fastmail Is Experiencing an Outage on Wednesday May 28, 2025 @04:16PM (#44120259)
My "status pages" are manually updated. It's a challenge to get updates out and troubleshoot, especially depending on org size and the underlying event.
Re:Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move on Tuesday April 22, 2025 @04:22AM (#43760098)
What can't TrueNAS do that was listed in the parent comment?

I'd rather have the flexibility offered by TrueNAS, in addition to the robust community. Yes, Synology hardware is convienent in some use cases, but you can generally build yourself a more powerful and versatile home server with TrueNAS Scale. There is a learning curve, so it is not for everyone.

Re:Pi-hole v6 on Tuesday February 18, 2025 @03:26PM (#43094603)
DoH is possible on pihole using cloudflared-- https://docs.pi-hole.net/guides/dns/cloudflared/.

> The cloudflared binary will also work with other DoH providers.

It is not a buyout. The memo and resignation template do not state buyout.

It is administrative leave with pay and benefits, but this leave only starts after your agency HR processes it from what I understand. It's more like a severance package.

Except these federal workers have a pension. It's complicated, and if this were done under previous administrations, something like this might be more well received. The current chaos just makes any rational decision making very difficult.
I wouldn't consider it an inconvenience in my kitchen. I'm highly interested in this. However, $700 is a lot. So, like others mentioned, I'd first like to see a demo video at the very least of it in action.

Different teas require different and specific temperatures for optimal results. A hot water tap cannot do this. I love the minimalism in the product design for this!

As an American living in Krakow for the last 15 months, Poland has near universal respect for pedestrian right of way. If there is even the possibility that a pedestrian needs to cross at a cross-walk, cars will slow and stop. In the US, this would never happen. When new Americans come through, we have to tell them very plainly they must stop for pedestrians everywhere, it is sacred that you let them cross. There are a lot of other related things, but in general, Poland in my mind places people above cars, so pedestrians are much safer walking around. The US could benefit greatly with this change in attitude, but I feel there is too much road rage and selfishness to accomodate this mindset on the road.

You can raise/pin the NSFW domains to curate the results yourself to what you'd generally prefer to see.
Did you bother to search for a solution before typing this screed out? In Texas, there is the TX Workforce Commission, which is designed to operate and solve what you bleeted on about. I picked another state randomly from my head, Kansas, and it looks like they have a similiar workforce program for job seekers. They are not only for recently unemployed individuals. I used it to great effect to gain access to network and system admin training at a very low point in my mid-20's. I was the youngest person in my "cadre" by 10+ years.
Not all public unions are the same, I would discourage generalization. Federal public unions are very different from local and state public unions.

My wife's public union in a federal agency is a great tool for them to leverage when dealing with exceptional issues outside the normal channels and processes. Federal bureaucracy can be slow, and it can also be impractical when dealing with various things. As mentioned elsewhere in the thread and the article, a federal public union and their members can't strike, and they generally cannot directly negotiate increased pay since it is congressionally controlled.

Aha, look at that.
Kagi are very open about their policy to submit feedback, bugs, and feature requests at https://kagifeedback.org/. I've not submitted anything Kagi Search, but I've submitted a few features and performance issues/bugs to their Orion feedback. I got replies from Vlad and Kagi employees within 12 hours. Feel free to suggest this as feedback I'd say...
Darknet diaries has done a few recent episodes on this topic. Episode 106 is about account handles told from the perspective of the victims, and it is quite sobering. Episode 112 is long interview with an individual who had hacked handles, and it has a look into sim-swapping and some of the tactics around that. Highly recommend ep112.
Re:Pop _OS 22.04 LTS has landed on Tuesday April 26, 2022 @12:11PM (#31169267)
As of December 2021, it did not, but it is much improved from the various threads on framework forums.

> apt install libpam-fprintd

Settings > Users > Fingerprint Login

kernel 5.16, pop_os 21.10, gnome 40.4.0

> All of that is true about my Army experience lol. If I could go back and do it again, I'd definitely choose Air Force.

Yes, it varies wildly based on branch, different units or battalions/brigades etc, and which MOS (job) you are. Or if you are enlisted or officer. I had a leadership change in my company over a period of like 6 months where all senior enlisted and officers changed, and it was like night and day different. Very micro-managed. It was like being back in Basic Training at Ft. Benning, insane. This ruined it for me, I chose not to re-enlist. I do really miss a lot of camaraderie, and every point in the "Why do I do it?" section of the article resonates very strongly with me.

I'd also chose Air Force or Navy instead of Army if I did it over again. Better training. More impactful missions I think for my MOS (Satcom). Not sure it would be available though, Navy and Air Force don't have as much "room" for folks then (2011) and especially now.

Re:Smart-TV blocklist for Pi-Hole on Saturday March 12, 2022 @08:12PM (#30656849)
You can create port forward firewall rules to redirect any outbound DNS port 53 traffic. This will not work for DNS over HTTPS, which is going to be increasingly common for IoT I'd imagine.

edit: method for this on pfSense: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/recipes/dns-redir...

Re:Slack System Status on Tuesday February 22, 2022 @09:47AM (#30428535)
I started having failed messages in channels and threads around 0605 PST... so about 20 minutes. Not too terrible considering the usual due diligence to escalate, determine scope of impact, and then push the buttons to update the status page with the approved messaging.

Well said. They shield themselves well, and they package it up nicely for business interests and tourists to tolerate it or never experience problematic situations.
I moved to Fastmail last year. Their spam detection is very good from my experience, I have not received any spam, other than marketing "spam" from services I signed up for. Even then, I would ballpark most of those end up in spam. I am also a big fan of their relatively new Masked Email feature[0].

Re:Reddit Blocks Firefox on Friday January 14, 2022 @02:02PM (#29938690)
I was really worried I had some sort of IP blocked, especially since I switched to a new static IP last night.

On 97.0b3 beta Firefox, disabled all tracking protection, strict privacy settings; same results. Interesting...

That user has pfSense, and they are doing it wrong. I would follow the config and guidance from the pfSense dev on this one: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/112631/nintendo-switch-needs...

The most common problem I have seen over and over is double NAT or CGNAT. For the home networks I manage (my parents, in-laws, and my own), I put the ISP modems in bridge mode or passthrough mode.
