Baserow founder here. Excited to inform you that we released version 1.6 of Baserow today and that includes the formula field.
Re:Rowy: Open-source Airtable alternative on Google Cloud on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @12:42PM (#28761884)
Hi, Rowy seems like an interesting product! I'll definitely try it out. Is it related to firetable (https://firetable.io/) by any chance? I see similarities in the interface and both can connect to firestore.
Re:Rowy: Open-source Airtable alternative on Google Cloud on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @12:27PM (#28761638)
Disclaimer, I’m the founder of Baserow. Airtable is a fantastic product, but it’s also limited in the amount of records that you can store. Their enterprise plan supports a maximum of 100k records in your entire database. Another problem is that you don’t own your data because it’s a SaaS product and if you want to create an integration, you can only do so via their API which limits you in the amount of requests you can make per second. We wanted to solve these problems by building a turn-key open source no-code database tool that you can self host with a comparable user experience to Airtable. We have a different technical approach that allows you to store a lot of data while staying performant. Another nice advantage is that our code architecture is modular, that means you can create real custom plugins. You can create custom field types of visualize data in a different way by creating custom view types. Everything can be extended.

You might want to take a look at Baserow (https://baserow.io), which is an open source self hosted no-code database tool and Airtable alternative. It is not possible to interact with an existing database, but the databases and tables created are stored in a PostgreSQL database. It might be possible for you to migrate your existing MySQL data to Baserow. The repository: https://gitlab.com/bramw/baserow. It is build in Django and Vue.js.

There are going to be production ready Docker images soon.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @05:31PM (#26450719)
We are going to add Notion like features to Baserow in 2022. You should then be able to create similar documents within the same tool and it is going to work well together with the databases and tables that you already have.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @05:26PM (#26450680)
It means that those features have not been created. I agree with you that it has to clearer. We will add a small description what the hourglass icon means soon.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @05:18PM (#26450597)
Thanks for notifying me. I was not aware that it is not possible to clone the repo that way without being signed into GitLab. I will change the url in the docs to `https://gitlab.com/bramw/baserow.git`.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @03:45PM (#26449830)
It depends a little bit on how you are going self host it. There are updating instructions at the bottom of https://baserow.io/docs/guides/installation/install-on-ubunt... and https://baserow.io/docs/guides/installation/install-on-cloud... We are going to make it much easier to self host and update in the future.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @03:42PM (#26449815)
Thanks! It is not a template, I designed it from scratch.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @03:35PM (#26449748)

Re:Tables: Tracking work for teams on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @03:20PM (#24558650)
Yes you can! The open source version offers the same functionality as the SaaS version. If you have Docker installed on your computer you can follow the demo environment tutorial at https://baserow.io/docs/guides/demo-environment to test out a copy locally.
Re:Tables: Tracking work for teams on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @01:07PM (#24557064)
Thanks! It does not use a css/ui framework. It is something I designed and build from scratch.
Re:Tables: Tracking work for teams on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @11:58AM (#24556073)
I see a lot of comments about people who are worried that Google might shutdown the service entirely and I agree with your concerns. The last months we have seen a lot of giants building their own database spreadsheet like hybrid, Google Tables, Microsoft Lists and Amazon Honeycode. Tools like these contain your most important data and you want to have freedom, security and independence as they can be an important part of your business.

Because of these reasons I started Baserow (https://baserow.io), which is an open source (https://gitlab.com/bramw/baserow) alternative to Airtable and the listed tools above. It is still in an early phase, but every week new features are implemented.

Some unique points:

- Unlimited rows.

- Open source, released under the MIT license.

- Uses popular frameworks like Django and Nuxt.js

- Uses PostgreSQL as database backend.

- It can be self hosted.

- You can have many rows per table, 100k+.

- Headless and API first.

- Supports plugins.

Hello Everyone, I am Bram Wiepjes, the founder of Baserow. At the beginning of the week I publicly released the source code of Baserow under the MIT license. Feel free to checkout the repository at https://gitlab.com/bramw/baserow. If you just want to try it out you can create an account on https://baserow.io. The software is still a very early state so a lot of features are still missing.

There are a few things that make Baserow unique:

- Unlimited rows.

- Open source, released under the MIT license.

- Uses popular frameworks like Django and Nuxt.js

- Uses PostgreSQL as database backend.

- It can be self hosted.

- You can have many rows per table. 100k+.

- Headless and API first.

- Supports pluginS.

- Includes a plugin boilerplate to start right away.

The following features are going to be added soon:

- A field that links to a table row.

- Exposing your table data publicly via a REST API.

- Real time changes of others.

- Undo and redo functionality.

It takes time to write code that has high test coverage, is modular, has good documentation and offers a great user experience. At the moment I have to do part time freelance development work in order to cover living expenses. By becoming a GitHub sponsor I can work more on Baserow which will speed up the development of new features and will help me pay the bills. It would mean a lot! Please check out the GitHub sponsor page at https://github.com/sponsors/bram2w. You can also help by contributing to the codebase.

If you have any questions or want to contribute, feel free to send me a message at https://baserow.io/contact.

The open source release will probably happen within 3 weeks from now. It is an early test version that is running on baserow.io, but this is for trying it out only. I still need to write documentation, an openapi spec, a plugin boilerplate and some other small things. When that is finished I will make the code available publicly.
