Ben Goldacre (of "Bad Science" fame) has been doing work in this area for a while: http://www.badscience.net/
As far as I can tell the first specific thing that the author calls out as something that should disturb all humans is that the Aladdin characters are joined by a character from a different IP. Truly terrifying to any company or copyright holder.
Re:Amazon Key is Silicon Valley at its most out-of-touch on Thursday October 26, 2017 @08:19PM (#15564489)
Something very close to that did launch first: Amazon Hub. It's a shared unit for apartment buildings though.

This was flagged to death but I'm vouching it because it should be addressed.

First, I'm not sure I believe your numbers to begin with. Is there a source?

Second, a huge issue is racism in law and police policies (not necessarily in individual cops) - crime statistics need to be taken with a grain of salt. The numbers reflect what the police and courts do, not what people do- they're related of course, but there's a bias.

I think you might be... extrapolating a lot from this.
Those are some... pretty strange views. Where do you see them expressed?
Re:Overweight and obesity are linked to cancer on Saturday October 07, 2017 @04:06PM (#15425432)
Just like all those stubborn meat eaters ignoring the science that eating meat increases cancer risk.
Federal employees wouldn't implement a project like that - contractors would. Like Equifax. (Or my employer, for whom I am not speaking.)
Re:Is she Photoshopped? In France, they now have to tell you on Saturday September 30, 2017 @11:30AM (#15373295)
Can you relate your comment to the article? What does obesity have to do with fake body shapes?

The techniques detailed on the page (reweighting lines, removing fine details) seem like a worthwhile reason to at least use a different file for the "tiny" image. Unless SVG renderers start using those techniques at a small enough size.

It looks like only Firefox or Opera would support an SVG favicon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon#File_format_support

Anything that can be prevented at a cost. Anything that seems like a less serious illness that wouldn't be worth missing a rent payment over.

You can get emergency care and just not pay for it if you can't afford it. You can't get preventative care if you can't afford it.

Or if you want more manual control, Play Music can also be set to download the contents of a playlist (or artist or etc.) Add your new album to that playlist and it'll be downloaded.
It doesn't matter what it means to me, but your intended meaning is essential to interpreting your proposal that they should pay a "fair amount".
You keep using the word "fair". What do you think it means?
Re:Twitter Suspends 300k Accounts Tied to Terrorism in 2017 on Tuesday September 19, 2017 @02:49PM (#15287654)
One of those was probably mine. I was banned within five minutes of signing up, I'm guessing because I was using semi-public wifi and didn't provide a phone number (although the signup form says it's optional.) The stated reason was for "bot-like activity".
Re:Gab is suing Google for allegedly violating antitrust laws on Friday September 15, 2017 @03:03PM (#15259809)
Why are you changing the subject from the reliability of the source to the correctness of a specific article?
Re:How Eve Players Pulled Off the Biggest Betrayal in Its History on Thursday September 14, 2017 @03:12PM (#15251506)
The developer once noted that 96% of subscribers are male.
Re:RSS Still Beats Facebook and Twitter for Tracking News on Saturday September 09, 2017 @08:59PM (#15209935)
Is it possible to set Twitter (not a third party client) to show you all unread items- that is, to give you a gap-free view of your feed? Or is it still just "whatever was most recent, mostly"?
Amusingly, the loading time for the "full experience" is long enough that it's cut off in the video. I think that says everything needed about the "full experience" on the web in 2017.
There's a configuration option in the omnibus CE config file to add additional lines to the built-in nginx configuration, it seems pretty straightforward to me - although we use a different web server so that we can integrate with our SSO, so I haven't tried it.

In the US, the FTC. Or do you consider them toothless? It does seem like they're at least making the appearance of trying: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2016/03/lord-...

Re:Rethinking the D-Bus Message Bus on Wednesday August 23, 2017 @04:20PM (#15084703)
I think it is the specific scripts that are prehistoric, not the idea of scripting.
Weird! It's on the only menu in Focus for me, the same level as "settings." I wouldn't have thought a launcher could do that. I use Nova Launcher.
Definitely yes on Android. I don't know for iOS.
No in-app bookmarks, but you can use "add to home screen" to get a shortcut.
People love a "lone hero" story and journalists/Twitter personalities are trying to squeeze as much milage as they can out of the genius who saved the entire world from malware.
Re:Exa, a modern replacement for ls on Thursday August 03, 2017 @06:33PM (#14924582)
Just make sure you update exa when there's a vulnerability in whatever got statically linked to it.
